the view of the Baltic sea from island Poel - don't you feel like coming over for a visit now?

Was trying to get a back-lit silhouette of the castle. After having seen this show before, I knew the lights would be off (the castle) for about three seconds. Was hoping there would be enough fire power behind it to pull it off, and that the clock and light in the window would show through... Think I got it.

The road that leads from Trapani to Marsala, along the lagoon that welcomes Mozia, is bordered by salt marshes that offer a beautiful view: the bodies of water divided by narrow strips of land forming an irregular and multicolored chessboard. At times it appears in the middle of the silhouette of a windmill, a reminder of a time when it was one of the main tools to pump water and grind the salt. The show is more amazing in the summer, at harvest, when the rosy hues of the water in the various tanks and the tanks as you step inside, now dried up. glisten in the sun.

I photographed this last Saturday. It is a fence which starts along the road and stops under water. In the barbwire there were all kinds of deteriorated things hanging in the wind, this is all filtered out of the water. The fence itself, it's rusty and old it is absolutely in decay.

Mt. Hamilton dominates the landscape east of San Jose, CA. The 4,216 feet tall mountain overlooks Santa Clara Valley and is the site of Lick Observatory, the first permanently occupied mountain-top observatory in the world. The foothills of Mt. Hamilton are dominated by majestic oaks and grassland, while its upper reaches are covered in pines. This high ridge is at an elevation of 3,100 feet and has a healthy mix of deciduous and evergreen trees. The views from the mountain are extraordinary, especially around sunset! Here as we look southwest, the golden light gives the late winter foliage a beautiful warm glow.

Legend says that the Irish warrior Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) built the causeway to walk to Scotland to fight his Scottish counterpart Benandonner. Once Fionn saw Benandonner's great bulk, fled back home and asked his wife to disguise him as the baby. When the much larger Benandonner crossed the bridge looking for him met Fionn's wife Oonagh, who laid a blanket over Fionn pretending that he was actually their baby son. Then Benandonner, seeing the size of the 'infant', he assumed the alleged father, Fionn, must be gigantic indeed. Therefore, Benandonner fled home in terror, ripping up the Causeway in case he was followed by Fionn.

Actually, the causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, UK.

this is my magic light spot. the right time, angle and sunlight cause this effect. as far as i know i'm the only one who knows about it. it's almost like someone is holding a reflector on the wave. the secret to the light are the houses that line the bluff facing the ocean. the light reflects off of all the big windows

View On Black. While I was in for some more dramatic light as the week went on, this is the first sunset for us for the week. We were always surprised with the light we would find.

I was fortunate to have such a vantage point only a couple of hundred yards from my hotel room. The view is north along Wailea Beach with West Maui in the distance.

Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite National Park, CA, 10/16/2007

While photographing autumn foliage in the eastern Sierra of California, I noticed some storm activity up in the mountains. I decided to drive west along Tioga Pass Road into the high Sierra of Yosemite National Park to see if I might encounter and photograph the landscape under interesting storm conditions and lighting. When I arrived at Tuolumne Meadows in the late afternoon I prepared my camera by the side of this marshy section of the Tuolumne River during a light snowstorm. The road here is closed every winter because of heavy snow, so this flurry was a hint of the weather to expect in the coming months. Being near the western edge of the storm, the sun occasionally shone through illuminating the river scene in magic light. This photograph was made during one of those brief moments! Even though snow was blowing everywhere, it wasn't accumulating and the water remained strangely undisturbed. Here we are looking southeast across a quiet pool in the river at an elevation of 8,584 feet above sea level. Puppy Dome can just be seen over the trees at far left, and Johnson Peak rises through the clouds and above the meadows and forest in the distance at center and right. Looking ahead and upstream is the confluence of the Dana Fork and Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River. Similarly, the John Muir Trail and Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail join a very short distance from this spot. Edges and transitions are more interesting to photograph than the centers of things, and that's why I was attracted to this location at this particular time. Here we are by the side of a river where it is joined by two tributaries bordering a meadow near the beginning of a forest under the edge of a storm signaling the end of a season. The Tuolumne River flows nearly 150 miles from the central Sierra Nevada to the San Joaquin River in California's Central Valley. Slightly larger than its southern counterpart the Merced River, the Tuolumne River's upper watershed was shaped by glaciations in the previous ice age, which produced Hetch Hetchy Valley and the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. The name "Tuolumne" is of Native American origin and has been given different meanings such as "Many Stone Houses", "The Land of Mountain Lions", and "Straight Up Steep". It is likely a corruption of the Indian word "talmalamne", which signifies a cluster of stone wigwams, thus referring to people who dwell in caves.
