Doha (Arabic: الدوحة‎, ' or ad-Dōḥa) is the capital city of Qatar. With a population of 400,051 according to the 2005, it is located in the Ad Dawhah municipality on the Persian Gulf. Doha is Qatar's largest city, with over 80% of the nation's population residing in Doha or its surrounding suburbs, and is also the economic center of the country. Doha is home to the Education City, an area devoted to research and education. Doha was the site of the first ministerial-level meeting of the Doha Development Round of World Trade Organization negotiations. The city of Doha also held the 2006 Asian Games, which was the world's largest Asian Games held.

This photo was actually meant to be desert shot, however when I’ve seen the overcast sky, I thought the desert photos would not come up as nice due to lack of shadows and I’ve decided to stay in the city instead. Jet Skiing is probably no. 1 leisure activity in the Middle East after shopping and dining out. There are many guys on jet skis during sunset time everyday to show off their skills to the crowd that gathers there. I am not sure how often there is a storm in Qatar but it is probably only once a year in Kuwait, therefore I was really glad to capture this stormy sky with heavy clouds reflecting colors of setting sun on the left side. U shaped corniche allows photographing Doha cityscape without necessity of being on the boat. I've captured many photos like this but I thought that the red JetSki stands out nicely from the shot.

Ecola State Park... North of Cannon beach here in Oregon. Sunset was not that great but you have to remember that 30 min. after sunset, the sky will sometimes "kick it" and give you something extra. That was the case here where I had started to head back (I was climbing all over those rocks during sunset) when the sky started to glow again. I was glad I had the camera on the tripod so I could capture this.

Haraz mountains is about 85 kms (a good 2-hour drive) from Sana'a. It reaches to 2300 meters above sea. As far as you can see there are mountains, smaller ones, bigger ones, and about 90 percent of these mountains are covered with terraces for agriculture. Not all of them are used anymore, because lots of locals have moved to the capital and there's just not enough people left to work all the fields. On every hilltop or big rock a town was built, for protection against enemies in the past, incredible constructions, it is mind-boggling how they managed to build them all ...

The region of Tunisia has some deserts, including part of the Sahara Desert in the south. In the north and mid the land is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. The Sahara (Arabic: الصحراء الكبرى‎, aṣ-ṣaḥrā´ al-kubra, "The Greatest Desert") is the world's largest non-arctic desert, and technically the world's third largest desert. At over 9,000,000 square kilometres (3,500,000 sq mi), it covers most of Northern Africa, making it almost as large as the United States or the continent of Europe. The desert stretches from the Red Sea, including parts of the Mediterranean coasts, to the outskirts of the Atlantic Ocean.

Great thing about desert around Dubai is that the sand is orange with very thin layer of red sand on the top which adds additional richness to the overall color. Desert safari in Dubai is very touristic thing to do, but it is big fun too. They generally stop at some lovely place just before sunset and give you a chance to take some photos with a wonderful light too.

A trip to the desert offers a real adventure into the magnificent landscape of the unique sands of Arabia. This safari tour takes you right into the heart of the desert where you experience the excitement of a roller-coaster tour down the astonishing high dunes. A stop for a breathtaking view of the endless desert gives an opportunity to watch the sun-set over this tranquil scenery.

Sana, San'a, Sanaa, or Sana'a - capital of Yemen and one of the most facinating in the Arab world with it's unique architecture, bustling souqs, friendly inhabitants and lack of tourists.

Sana’a is one of the ancient Yemen cities dating date back to the Sabean dynasty. The oldest reference to its existence is found in inscriptions dates back to the late the 1st Century AD. The inscriptions also refer to the historical Palace of Ghamdan associated with Salheen Palace in Marib . This suggested that Sana’a was the capital of the Himyrate dynasty at the onset of the 6th century AD when king Yousef Athar Dhu Nawas the last of the Himyarite kings was in power . It was also the capital of the Abyssinian rules and after them the Persians who also made Sana’a their capital.

Photo was taken in Beyal Camp which is a wonderful place surrounded with beautiful thick Pine forest, spellbinding views of Raikot Glacier and Nanga Parbat.

It was taken after the rain. I particularly like those wonderful evening colors and simple composition created by the rocky hills and one of the last rainy clouds.

If you always thought that Dead Sea is a kind of middle eastern peaceful pond where you will just float while reading your book (I did when I first came there few years back), think again. Early months in Middle East can be rather stormy. (We had experienced some snow in Jordan too). Weather across GCC was very changeable for last few weeks, which means the hot wave is just behind the door… and there we come again… 30C+,…. 40C+,…. 50C+….

The Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַ‏‏מֶ‏ּ‏לַ‏ח‎, Yām Ha-Melaḥ, "Sea of Salt"; Arabic: البَحْر المَيّت‎, al-Baḥr l-Mayyit, "Dead Sea") is a salt lake between Israel and the West Bank to the west, and Jordan to the east. It is 422 metres (1,385 ft) below sea level, and its shores are the lowest point on the surface of the Earth on dry land. The Dead Sea is 378 m (1,240 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. It is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33.7 percent salinity. Only Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl and some hypersaline lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond and perhaps Lake Vanda) have a higher salinity. It is 8.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment where animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River.

Sharjah (Arabic: الشارقة) is one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The emirate covers 2,600 km² (1,003 mi²) and has a population of over 800,000 (2008). The emirate of Sharjah comprises the city of Sharjah (the seat of the emirate), and other minor towns and enclaves such as Kalba, Dibba Al-Hisn and Khor Fakkan. Sharjah also claims two islands, Sir Abu Nu’ayr and Abu Musa, with the latter claim being disputed and the island being controlled by Iran.

Historically, Sharjah was one of the wealthiest towns in this region with a settlement in existence for over 5000 years. In the early 18th century Al Qasimi clan (Huwala tribe) established itself in Sharjah, c. 1727 declaring Sharjah independent. On 8 January 1820, Sheikh Sultan I signed the General Maritime Treaty with Britain, accepting a protectorate to keep the Ottoman Turks out. Like four of its neighbours, Ajman, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, and Umm al-Qaiwain, its position on the route to India made it important enough to be recognized as a salute state.

The Bahrain World Trade Center (also known as: Bahrain WTC or BWTC) is a 240 m (787 ft) high twin tower complex by South African architect Shaun Killa, located in Manama, Bahrain. The building is the first skyscraper in the world to integrate wind turbines into its design. The 50-floor structure is constructed next to the King Faisal Highway, close to popular landmarks such as the towers of BFH, NBB, Abraj Al Lulu and the scenic Pearl Roundabout. It is the second tallest building in Bahrain, after the twin towers of the Bahrain Financial Harbor.

Three skybridges connect the towers; each holding one large wind turbine with a nameplate capacity of 225kW each, totalling to 675kW of wind energy production. These turbines, each measuring 29 m (32 yd) in diameter, face north, which is the direction from which air from the Persian Gulf blows in. The sail-shaped buildings on either side are designed to funnel wind through the gap to provide the maximum amount of wind passing through the turbines. This was confirmed by wind tunnel tests, which showed that the buildings create an ‘S’-shaped flow, ensuring that any wind coming within a 45° angle to either side of the central axis will create a wind stream that remains perpendicular to the turbines. This significantly increases their potential to generate electricity. The wind turbines are expected to provide 11% to 15% of the towers' total power consumption, or approximately 1.1 to 1.3 GWh a year. This is equivalent to providing the lighting for about 300 homes annually.

HFF Everyone!

Best On Black. While I took many more photos over my week in paradise, I'm closing out my series (for now) with one final look at the setting sun. From this view, I am standing on the shores of Wailea beach, looking due west. The landmas to the right of the sun is west Maui. The Island of Lanai is obscured in clouds. Wailea beach has some absolutely gorgeous sunsets to behold, and every night was a surprise. This is the preferred thing to do after touring all over maui during the day.

This shot was actually taken in the remains of a late afternoon shower. I was huddled close to the ground with an umbrella propped over the camera waiting for light. While I didn't get the explosive light show I was hoping for, the end result was still quite beautiful. The sun pierced through the clouds for all of 30 seconds before it disappeared again below clouds at the horizon.

Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City - Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh - Saigon - Sài Gòn - Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica - Vương cung thánh đường Đức Bà Sài Gòn - Nhà thờ Đức Bà Sài Gòn) - Cathedral located in the downtown of the city

Although Saigon is a city full of hidden treasures and probably trillion motorbikes, it is rather difficult to define what is typical skyline of the city (besides The City hall). Although I have done my research on internet I was not sure where to head for blue hour. As I was walking around city famous cathedral, I thought it might be interesting place to shoot, so I only needed the right view point. Closer look at the high buildings around revealed that there might be terrace on one of them and here is the result. Long exposure nicely captured the flow of that trillion motorbikes that is so typical for this city.

Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) is the largest city in Vietnam. Under the name Prey Nokor it was the main port of Cambodia, before being annexed by the Vietnamese in the 17th century. Under the name Saigon (Vietnamese: Sài Gòn), it was the capital of the French colony of Cochinchina and later of the independent state of South Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. In 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding province of Gia Định and was officially renamed Hồ Chí Minh City (although the name Sài Gòn is still commonly used).

The Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the fingerprints the French left in the city of Saigon. The building, that stands in the center of Saigon, was built at the end of the 19th century. Inside you can admire typical french stained glass windows. The best in Vietnam.Although most Vietnamese are Buddhists, there are a few of them that profess a different religion. Thanks to the French occupation of this land, the Catholic religion is practiced by 10% of Vietnam population. Even if you're not a Catholic, it's worth taking a look at this lovely red-bricked church that was built using bricks from Marseilles and stained glass windows from Chartres.

The Geminid meteor shower of 2022, showing the radiant point in Gemini at left, above Castor and Pollux. Orion is at lower right. Mars in Taurus is at top, to the left of Aldebaran and the Hyades star cluster. The M44 Beehive star cluster is in the lower left corner. Small star clusters in Gemini (M35) and Auriga (M36, M37, M38) are at top.

I shot the images for this composite from home in Alberta on December 14, 2022, the night after the peak night, which of course was cloudy. The temperature was about -15° C. A heater band on the lens kept the frost off. I had to change the camera battery once during the evening's shoot.

This is a stack of 16 images of 500 shot that night, the ones containing meteors, taken over 4.5 hours from the first meteor frame to the last. Each exposure was 30 seconds at f/2 with the Canon RF28-70mm lens at 28mm and on the Canon R5 at ISO 800, with the camera on a tracking mount to follow the sky so each frame would automatically align. The sky and stars come from one base image taken toward the end of the sequence with this area of sky at its highest but before the waning Moon rose to light the sky. Some red airglow tints the sky.

Mývatn is a shallow lake situated in an area of active volcanism in the North of Iceland, not far from Krafla volcano. The lake was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless vents (pseudocraters).

The name of the lake (Icelandic mý ("midge") and vatn ("lake"); the lake of midges) comes from the huge numbers of flies (midges) to be found there in the summer. In fact, it is quite difficult to get a shot without them.

This shot was made just at midnight, and it was the first stop after returning to the farm to get the camera, to our way to Bjarnarflag . The light, the reflections were amazing, this was our first Midnight Sun visible in Iceland

The Basilica Cistern (Turkish: Yerebatan Sarayı - "Sunken Palace", or Yerebatan Sarnıcı - "Sunken Cistern"), is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople), Turkey. The cistern, located South West of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu, was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.

Basilica cistern or better known as Yerebatan sarayi is a very authentic place and a must see in Istanbul. The cistern is located at the Sultanahmet square, when you are about to reach the Sultanahmet Square on the right bank you will see the basilica cistern. Underground waterway was used as a reservoir for water storage for the Great Palace and other buildings. It is 132 m length, by 65m wide. There are 336 columns in the cistern. Most of the column capitals are either in Corinthian or Doric Style. Walk to the back of the Cistern, and you will find one upside down Medusa head supporting one of the columns. Why it is upside down has been a question of much discussion, but the best guess is that the people who placed the stone believed that if the head was upside down, it would ward off evil spirits.

I could call this photo "Stolen photo II". Where ever I travel I always have a small travel tripod for low light situation like in this place. Basilica Cistern is very dark place and as you see from the photo details, it took 30s with f9 to capture this place nicely. I have used my tripod for this but as soon as I took my 2nd photo a guard came to me claiming that tripod cannot be used in this place. I really didn't understand why and got very upset. You can only take photos holding camera in your hand and keeping tripod in your bag. The most probable reason is that they don't want you to capture quality photos. Luckily there is not much one can do about he composition, and as I already had 2 great photos of this place I let go. I have tried to take more hand held photos later and push the iso up to 3200 but it still was not enough, iso 5000 had however shown too much noise. Btw, same thing applies to Hagia Sofia, they actually don't let you even take tripod in, even when it is size of an umbrella..
