As in all ancient societies, agriculture was the main economic activity. The harvests in Egypt were richer than in most other countries at the time, allowing for a larger percentage of urban dwellers and diverse forms of production. Hence the cities, temples, the wealth of the state and the ability to equip armies for campaigns against countries producing products that Egypt had in short supply. The main crops of Ancient Egypt were wheat and barley, as well as lettuce, beans, onions, figs, dates, grapes, melons and cucumbers. Flax was grown by many farmers, and then used for the production of linens.

There was no typical money system in Egypt. Products were bartered, and workers were paid in wheat, barley and, occasionally, in craft products like pottery, clothes etc. But barley could be defined as a type of money, since it was easy to use as payment. For example, if a peasant might pay with barley for a refined product, like a new garment, and then the seller would in his turn sell that barley to obtain other products.

Last morning of camping just happened to wake up with the first light & noticed all the glorious light fog in the air. Ran for the Tripod & must have shot a couple Gig's worth!

Will more than likely process quite a few of these, and create a separate set for em called, "The Fog!"

As I said in the previous post, sometimes, when you shoot a location, you get some interesting images from the place. They are very similar, but they are not the same. They both have similar light, the same subject, common elements...but they are different.

In some cases, you can't decide which one you like most, in fact some days you prefer one and the next day your choice is the other.

In Iceland that happens very often, you love the location, you shoot some photos, and then you can't decide....every place is so gorgeous!!

It happened again with this previous shot at Vatnsnes, where the moving horses where changing the composition all the time. With that Midnightsun light they were very nervious, neighing and walking around. You can check the other shot here (and in the first comment of this post).

Middle East - Sultanate of Oman - Dhofar Province - Salalah Area - صلالة - Ṣalālah - Al-Mughsayl Beach - Al Maghseel - Mughsail - Maghsail - Scenic coastal location along Indian Ocean with rugged mountains during Khareef - Rainy Season bringing misty & foggy weather

Salalah and Dhofar region offers visitors an enormous variety of things to see and do. The natural beauty of the surrounding area is breathtaking. You can witness the stunning views of dramatic mountains reaching right to the edge of the sea. You can experience wadis and beaches as well as the springs. Salalah is a coastal city located on the shores of the Indian Ocean, in the southern part of Oman. Although close to the Arabian desert, Salalah enjoys a pleasant tropical climate and even in the summer the temperatures are not too hot as the coastal fringe of Dhofar and Salalah is touched by the winds of the southwest monsoon between June and September. The surface winds encourage an upwelling of colder waters in the Indian Ocean which cool the over-lying moisture-laden air. The fog cools temperatures considerably, such that Salalah is a popular destination for Gulf visitors in the summer as a respite from the relentless heat. The phenomenon of this rain-bearing fog is known locally as the Khareef.

This particular beach was extremely foggy every time I got there. It created incredibly mystical atmosphere, particularly during dusk. You might wonder about the f4.5, but as I was wondering around the beach, trying to find the best angle, I didn’t have time to always use tripod. Light changes very quickly in Middle East and doesn’t give you so many opportunities if you are not at the right place at the right time. I didn’t want to push ISO too high and the overall misty atmosphere didn’t need the overall sharpness f11 and above would give. And at last but not least, I could not help but wonder how much this place reminded me of Cuillin mountains at Isle of Skye as this is another landscape we don’t normally connect with Middle East.

Lotus Pond, named after the aquatic plants growing in it, is located in eastern Zuoying District. The pond is surrounded by willow trees, area of 75 hectares, also an area of temples like Confucius Temple, Spring Autumn Pavilion and Dragon and Tiger Tower. The foggy view in the morning and late evening makes the pond with the mystery feeling, especially in summer time, with the willow trees on the pond side. One of the more famous temples is the Confucius Temple to the west of the lake, the biggest of its kind on Taiwan.Architecturally similar to examples from the Song Dynasty, the temple features an arched bridge and an embossed bronze wall profiling Confucius. Other prominent landmarks around Lotus Lake are the Dragon Tiger Towers with their relief carvings illustrating twenty-four stories of filial piety, twelve men of virtue, and the thirty-six generals of the Emperor of Heaven.

Great thing about desert around Dubai is that the sand is orange with very thin layer of red sand on the top which adds additional richness to the overall color. Desert safari in Dubai is very touristic thing to do, but it is big fun too. They generally stop at some lovely place just before sunset and give you a chance to take some photos with a wonderful light too.

A trip to the desert offers a real adventure into the magnificent landscape of the unique sands of Arabia. This safari tour takes you right into the heart of the desert where you experience the excitement of a roller-coaster tour down the astonishing high dunes. A stop for a breathtaking view of the endless desert gives an opportunity to watch the sun-set over this tranquil scenery.

Manakha is located in the Haraz mountains, 85 kms (a good 2-hour drive) from Sana'a. It is located at 2300 meters above sea. As far as you can see there's mountains, smaller ones, bigger ones, and about 90 percent of these mountains are covered with terraces for agriculture. Not all of them are used anymore, because lots of locals have moved to the capital and there's just not enough people left to work all the fields. On every hilltop or big rock a town was built, for protection against enemies in the past, incredible constructions, it is mind-boggling how they managed to build them all ... and then : the fields and hillsides are so green, it seems unreal, as if it was painted on.

This photo was taken before sunset, when the sun was just about to set behind those mountains. It created beautiful long sunrays which were pointing at the village.

This is a shot of Mt. Tupopdan (6106m) taken at the sunset with new and old suspension Husaini Bridge in foreground.

Probably one of the more instantly recognisable pictures you'll see in books and promotional pictures of Pakistan is of the numerous suspension bridges that cross the rivers in and around Northern Pakistan. And in saying that, one of the more famous day treks around the region is known as the Two Bridges trek which as the name suggests sees you crossing two bridges on a five hour trek in the area surrounding Passu and the neighboring villages before ending at Borit Lake. The trek itself is probably more of a pleasant stroll than a strenuous effort but the setting and the scenery is some of the best I've seen so far. Apart from crossing the two bridges you meander through farming villages, traverse steep ravines, cross potato and pumpkin fields as the farmers wave hello and end the day by enjoying a nice cold drink by an alpine lake.

Boracay Island in Philippines with its famous white beach and crystal clear water is ideal for honeymoon in paradise. Boracay is an island of the Philippines located approximately 315 km (200 miles) south of Manila and 2 km off the northwest tip of the island of Panay in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. In 1990, it was voted by the BMW Tropical Beach Handbook as one of the best beaches in the world and again in 1996 by British publication TV Quick as the world's number one tropical beach. In 2007, Boracay island topped the list of the World’s Most Popular Beach according to Yahoo! Travel

Years ago, Boracay Island was a well-guarded secret, almost possessively so that only a few knew of its existence. It was only in the 70s when, it is said, a foreign movie crew accidentally "discovered" this island paradise. Others maintain that it was the German traveler, 'Jens Peters' book, which included rave reviews of Boracay that changed the island’s pace from that of being a quiet secret to eventually being voted as having the best beach in the world. Whichever story is true, it was around this time that Boracay Island slowly ceased to be a private travelers hangout and eventually became one of the major tourist destinations in the Philippines

A bizarre shaped volcanic formation - Willy’s Rock is arguably the most instantly recognizable attraction in Boracay. Situated approximately 100 metres offshore from Station One, the rock is topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary and is becomes an island itself during high tide.

Middle East - GCC - Bahrain - Modern Manama City Skyline from traditional Muharraq area

Muharraq (Arabic: المحرق‎) (meaning Place of Ashes), is Bahrain's second largest city, and served as its capital until 1923. The Muharraq Town was established by the Al Bin Ali Utub tribe as early as the late 17th Century. It has long been a centre of religiosity. The city is located on Muharraq Island. The city's origins are ancient, going back to the time of Dilmun some five thousand years ago, but it came to prominence in the historical records during the era of Tylos when Bahrain came under domination of the Selucid Greeks, and Muharraq was the centre of a pagan cult dedicated to the shark god, Awal. The city's inhabitants, who depended upon seafaring and trade for their livelihood, worshipped Awal in the form of a large statue of a shark located in the city.

Manama (Arabic: المنامة, transliteration: al-Manāma) is the capital and largest city of Bahrain with an approximate population of 155,000 people. Manama has emerged as the capital of independent Bahrain after periods of domination by Portugal and Persians earlier in its history. Today, it is a modern capital with an economy based around the sales promotion industry as crude oil takes a less pronounced role in the economy.

Another of the series of photographs I took on our last night in Sedona. I had done some inquiries in town as to the best location for sunset reflection shots of Cathedral Rock, and was told that this was the place. This is probably the most popular and photographed scene from Sedona, and I felt that it was a kind of pilgrimage to go there, and stand with the other tripod carrying photographers. At this time of year there wasn't that much water in Oak Creek, and it was somewhat difficult to find enough for a decent reflection. I've posted two HDR images from this location, but this is from one single image.

Middle East - Sultanate of Oman - Dhofar Province - Salalah Area - صلالة - Ṣalālah - Rakhyut - Rakhyot - Beach village on scenic coastal location along Indian Ocean surrounded by rugged mountains during Khareef - Rainy Season bringing misty & foggy weather

Salalah and Dhofar region offers visitors an enormous variety of things to see and do. The natural beauty of the surrounding area is breathtaking. You can witness the stunning views of dramatic mountains reaching right to the edge of the sea. You can experience wadis and beaches as well as the springs. The fog cools temperatures considerably, such that Salalah is a popular destination for Gulf visitors in the summer as a respite from the relentless heat. The phenomenon of this rain-bearing fog is known locally as the Khareef.

This photo is taken at Dhalkut beach during Khareef season. Dhalkut is located on the far west of Dhofar and has enjoyed its own merchant sea trade with the ports of the Gulf and Yemen, exporting leather, honey, figs and frankincense. This wilayat has many springs which burst forth from the wadis of the Jebel al Qamar (Mountains of the Moon). The caves and grottos in the area have provided shepherds and flocks with safe refuge from adverse weather conditions for centuries. Dalkut is 160 Kilometres west of Salalah. To reach it, you drive to al Mughsail, then up the steep winding Aqeeshan road to the Niyabat of Shahb As'eeb in the Wilayat of Rakhyut and from there to Wadi Seeq and Dalkut. The seas off Dalkut's rocky shore are full of fish and crustaceans.

There are two groups of people when it comes to adding human figures into landscape photography. I used to belong to the one that tried to avoid any humans in the landscapes. However everything is subject to change and I realized that adding figure to the beautiful landscape gives it additional element. Viewer can more easily put himself/herself into the picture, imagining how it would be to be on such a place yourself. So now instead of waiting for everybody to disappear from the frame, I wait for them to get into picture !

Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City - Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh - Saigon - Sài Gòn - Worship in Traditional Chinese Buddhist Temple - Sacred House of Worship & Prayer - Burning of Incense - Joss sticks

Joss sticks are a type of incense used in many East Asian countries, traditionally burned before a Chinese religious image, idol or shrine. They can also be burned in front of a door, or open window as an offering to heaven, or devas. In modern days, joss sticks can be used for any purpose, such as to enhance the smell of a room, or to light fire crackers. The word "joss" is derived from the Latin deus (god) via Portuguese. Joss stick burning is an everyday practice in traditional Chinese religion. There are many different types of joss sticks used for different purposes or on different festive days.

Capturing smoke from joss sticks was a great fun, this shot is one of the best I've captured. Before coming to Asia I've pictured that I will be taking 1.000.000 photos like this, only when I got there I realized that you need right conditions and the right light from the right angle. Unfortunately I didnt have as many many opportunities as I was hoping for, however I didnt leave Asia empty handed as you can see.

Doha (Arabic: الدوحة‎, ' or ad-Dōḥa) is the capital city of Qatar. With a population of 400,051 according to the 2005, it is located in the Ad Dawhah municipality on the Persian Gulf. Doha is Qatar's largest city, with over 80% of the nation's population residing in Doha or its surrounding suburbs, and is also the economic center of the country. Doha is home to the Education City, an area devoted to research and education. Doha was the site of the first ministerial-level meeting of the Doha Development Round of World Trade Organization negotiations. The city of Doha also held the 2006 Asian Games, which was the world's largest Asian Games held.

This photo was actually meant to be desert shot, however when I’ve seen the overcast sky, I thought the desert photos would not come up as nice due to lack of shadows and I’ve decided to stay in the city instead. Jet Skiing is probably no. 1 leisure activity in the Middle East after shopping and dining out. There are many guys on jet skis during sunset time everyday to show off their skills to the crowd that gathers there. I am not sure how often there is a storm in Qatar but it is probably only once a year in Kuwait, therefore I was really glad to capture this stormy sky with heavy clouds reflecting colors of setting sun on the left side. U shaped corniche allows photographing Doha cityscape without necessity of being on the boat. I've captured many photos like this but I thought that the red JetSki stands out nicely from the shot.
