Shot with my 1964 Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm F/1.8 rare 8 aperture blade version.

 

This East German Zeiss was manufactured until 1991 and was usually found attached to Praktikas via the M42 mount.

 

This lens was produced with rare-earth compounds containing lanthanum are extensively used in carbon lighting applications, especially by the motion picture industry for studio lighting and projection. Lanthanum (III) oxide is used in some camera lenses. It’s added to reduce dispersion and improve the clarity of images.

Das Plönlein bedeutet “kleiner ebener Platz”. Es ist das unverwechselbare Wahrzeichen von Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Im Herzen dieser Kreuzung dreier Wege steht ein leicht geneigtes, ockerfarbenes Fachwerkhaus. Es gilt als schönstes Fachwerkhaus Bayerns. Dieses weltbekannte Fotomotiv wird perfekt von zwei mittelalterlichen Wehrtürmen eingerahmt: dem Kobolzeller Tor (1360) und dem Siebersturm (1385). Seine globale Bekanntheit verdankt das Plönlein nicht zuletzt seiner Rolle als Inspirationsquelle für die Stadtkulisse in Disneys Klassiker Pinocchio von 1940.

 

The Plönlein means "small level square." It is the unmistakable landmark of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. At the heart of this intersection of three roads stands a slightly leaning, ochre-colored half-timbered house. It is considered the most beautiful half-timbered house in Bavaria. This world-famous photo opportunity is perfectly framed by two medieval defensive towers: the Kobolzeller Gate (1360) and the Siebersturm (1385). The Plönlein owes its global fame not least to its role as a source of inspiration for the townscape in Disney's 1940 classic Pinocchio.

Die älteren flickr Freunde aus Deutschland werden sich noch an ihn erinnern. An den Opel Rekord aus den späten 50'ern, der bis weit in die 60'er Jahre hinein, als ein Symbol des Wirtschaftswunders, dass deutsche Straßenbild prägte. Gerne wurde er auch als der "Mercedes des kleinen Mannes" bezeichnet. Zeiten in denen die deutsche Wirtschaft boomte und "Made in Germany" nicht nur eine Floskel war. Lang, lang, ist's her 😢

The older flickr friends from Germany will still remember it. The Opel Rekord from the late 50s, which dominated the German streets until well into the 60s as a symbol of the economic miracle. It was also often referred to as the "little man's Mercedes". Times in which the German economy was booming and "Made in Germany" was not just a cliché. It's been a long, long time.😥

Am vierten Advent 2022 ergab sich die Gelegenheit einen reinen Kesselwagenzug auf der PE (Plauen – Eger) zu fotografieren. Auf Grund eines Verbots für Gefahrguttransporte auf der KBS 544, gab es selten bis gar nicht die Gelegenheit Kesselzüge zu beobachten. Dies änderte sich am heutigen 18. Dezember 2022 als 232 413 mit einem Rapsöl beladenen Kesselzug von Vojtanov/Adorf nach Gera/Leipzig unterwegs war.

Am 30. Mai 2021 ergab sich erneut die Gelegenheit ein Ludmilla-Pärchen mit einem Kesselzug zu fotografieren. Als Kulisse wurde dieses mal ein Rapsfeld nahe Christgrün im Vogtland gewählt.

Das Unternehmen Railsystems RP aus Gotha ist dafür bekannt, etliche ehemalige Loks der Deutschen Bundesbahn - insbesondere aus der Baureihe 218 - bestens gepflegt und in historischer Lackierung einzusetzen. Daneben nennt man aber auch hochmoderne Fahrzeuge sein Eigen, wie zum Beispiel den Dual Mode Vectron 248 002. Die Zweikraftlok kam am 09. Juni 2023 vor dem mit Schnittholz beladenen DGS 59766 von Kaufering nach Brake zum Einsatz. Bei Nordheim in der schwäbischen Lechebene konnte ich den besagten Zug aufnehmen. Besonderes Augenmerk verdient die Gestaltung der Seitenwand der Lok, die auf den höchst unterschiedlichen Fahrzeugpark des Unternehmens hinweist. Die Loks der Baureihe 151 und 218 sind stilisiert wie in einem historischen Katalog des Modellbahnherstellers Märklin aus den 1960er Jahren dargestellt. Eine gelungene Reminiszenz wie ich finde.

 

The company Railsystems RP from Gotha is known for using several former locomotives of the German Federal Railroad - especially from the 218 series - well maintained and in historic livery. In addition, the company also owns ultra-modern vehicles, such as the dual mode Vectron 248 002, which was used on June 9, 2023 in front of DGS 59766 from Kaufering to Brake loaded with lumber. Near Nordheim in the Swabian Leche plain, I was able to take a picture of the train in mentioned. The design of the locomotive's side wall deserves special attention, indicating the company's highly diverse rolling stock. The thick roiling fog of another pea-souper began to permeate the narrow streets of Soho, permeating the bricks of old buildings and softening the rumble of late night London traffic on the Strand and the footfalls of pedestrians. Down a rather dark and seedy laneway, a lone female figure arrayed all in white stood out amidst the gloom, and the sharp click of her heels against the wet cobbles beneath her feet cut through the fog like a knife. Her movements seemed so languorous, you could almost believe from her sashaying hips that she had nowhere in particular to be, but it was all the artifice of a successful silent film star, as her footsteps were alive with energy and purpose as she neared her assignation.

 

She rapped hard on the metal door whose surface was smoothed with the touch of many hands before hers: first three hard, heavy knocks, and then three faster and lighter ones. The peephole in the door slid back with a sharp rasp, revealing a pair of red eyes with a hard gaze, in spite of their rheuminess. Beyond the bouncer, the jovial sounds of a party atmosphere drifted through the peep hole: voluble chatter interspersed with bursts of laughter, the clink of glass on glass, the pop of a champagne cork and the delicious sound of the latest frenetic jazz music from New York and New Orleans.

 

“I vant to enter zee club.” the silent film starlet said in the rolling, laconic syllables of a German born citizen speaking English.

 

The bouncer looked her up and down with an appraising look. He noted as the fog rolled in around her in a bluish fug that swallowed everything in its path, that she was dressed elegantly in a thick white mink coat that matched the pale, creamy tones of her flesh, and from the look of it, not much beneath it. She wore a pomaded Eighteenth Century wig atop her head, but bore no gaudy jewels to mar her skin. She held a single fragrant pink rose to her dainty nose to ward away the stench of the Soho back streets. Her eyes were smoky and her lids hooded, yet there was a vitality in those pools of brown.

 

“Certainly, Fraulein Gisela.” the bouncer replied in a rough, cockney accent that matched the thick and heavy set of his muscular body as he opened the door.

 

Fraulein Gisela slipped in through the open door lithely, and with a heavy bang of metal against metal, the door slammed shut behind her, leaving no trace of her: as though the foggy and dark Soho laneway had simply swallowed her up.

I recently acquired a new 1920s Carl Schneider half-doll of a lady sniffing a pink rose to add to my collection of lovely ladies, from a private collector in Melbourne who is downsizing and selling some of her impressive collection. And here she is! She is so dramatic, unusual and lovely that I wanted to share her with you all.

 

Whilst her powdered wig is very much in the spirit of the Eighteenth Century, her smoky eyes rimmed by dark kohl, and her languorous hooded lids are very evocative of the silent film stars of the 1920s, and that is what give me the idea of the narrative above. In those inter-war years it was not unusual for English actors and actresses to work on silent films in France and Germany, and for German or French silent picture stars to act in British films. This extended to American actresses from the newly founded Hollywoodland of Culver Studios coming to England to act on stage and in films, and for British actresses looking for greener pastures to break out in American film. The silent cinema was more forgiving of your origins, so long as you looked the part, than the original talkies were.

 

I have wrapped my half-doll in a beautiful white mink fur coat, which in truth is actually a vintage detachable white arctic fox fur cuff (cuffs and collars were often detachable in the 1920s allowing a different style to be applied to a coat in a lady\'s wardrobe with a quick change) which was a Christmas gift from my dear friend [https://www.flickr.com/photos/bkhagar_gallery]. It fits her perfectly!

 

The backdrop of the blueish grey London pea-souper is a piece of hand dyed pleated wool crêpe.

 

The "half-doll" is a dainty porcelain or bisque figurine, fashionable in the early Twentieth Century with an upper body, head, arms, but no legs. These dolls were produced in the thousands at the height of their popularity by German factories such as Dressel and Kister, Heubach, Goebel and Kestner. In this case, my half-doll is an early Carl Schneider from the early 1920s. Later these half-dolls were produced in France, America and later still, in Japan. They commonly served as handles and toppers for fabric covers made for powder boxes on ladies’ dressing tables and small brushes, however they were also made for jewellery boxes, pincushions, tea cosies and other covers. In this case, my German half-doll is an amalgam of Eighteenth Century and contemporary (for the time) Art Deco ideals of beauty. She is quite large, so I imagine that she would have been made for a lady’s boudoir and was most likely the topper for a powder bowl, a powder puff or brush. She has been hand painted.

 

Carl Schneider produced large quantities of half-dolls during the 1920s and 1930s. By the 1930s most were of average quality, though their 1920s range were sculpted with great detail and painted with precision. They also made dresser boxes out of porcelain. The business was founded by Carl Schneider along with artist Karl Unger and businessman Hermann Hutschenreuther between 1859 and 1861. To begin with the company only produced tableware, miniature sets for children and a few kitchen utensils, but unlike many other porcelain factories they did not simply copy existing designs but rather used their own creativity and started with export fairly early, which was soon rewarded as the first international award was received 1875 at the Exposición Internacional de Chile (Santiago World Fair). For many years] the company remained successful, but orders were slowly declining as customer preferences changed and by 1910 it was clear that the constant neglect as to investments regarding modernisation was slowly claiming its price. Wilhelm Wedel had to lay off his first ten workers in 1913. Wedel desperately tried everything possible to save the business and over the next years he managed to restructure parts of the factory and thus optimize work flow. In 1930 a mere 120 people still worked at the factory, and the work being produced was far from the zenith of their earlier quality pieces. Wedel died before the Second World War broke out. The business continued, now owned by the banks, and barely managed to exist throughout the War. The official records of 1947 show a remaining workforce of 70 people who were occupied with creating cheap mass produced goods to cover the enormous demand after the War. The company was nationalised in 1951. The defunct factory of Carl Schneiders Erben was finally closed in 1973 after finishing the last figurines still made in 1972.

Während meines Aufenthaltes in Cheb am 10. Februar 2023 konnte ich 132 426 der Nossen-Riesaer Eisenbahn-Compagnie GmbH kurz "NRE" welche aktuell für die TRIANGULA Logistik GmbH (TRG) zu Diensten steht mit einem Skoda-Autozug fotografieren.

232 182 der WFL (Wedler Franz Logistik GmbH & Co. KG) war am 26. März 2022 mit einem Schotterzug von Zwickau nach Oelsnitz im Vogtland unterwegs. Die Rund 600 Tonnen schwere Fuhre konnte in Kürbitz Bildlich festgehalten werden.

Am 24. September 2022 überführte 204 012 der Pressnitztalbahn GmbH den Anti-Drogen-Zug auch Revolutiontrain genannt von Erfurt zurück ins Tschechische Kraslice. Ich habe den Sonderzug am alten Umspannwerk in Herlasgrün für die Nachtwelt fotodokumentarisch festgehalten.

Mit einem Kesselzug konnte am 03. Juli 2022 die Bilaterale 155 219 nahe Jocketa bzw. Liebau fotografiert werden.

Am 31. Dezember 2022 war die E11 013 der „Interessengemeinschaft Traditionslokomotive 58 3047 e.V.“ mit ihrem Leerreisezug 17460 welcher von Glauchau nach Plauen verkehrte im oberen Bahnhof von Plauen angekommen.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 3rd of January is "precious gift", a theme where it is required to take a photo of something that was gifted to you, that you hold precious. It can be monetarily precious, or intrinsically valuable. I am very fortunate in the fact that I have ever so many people in my life that love me, both family and friends, that I have a multitude of choices for this theme. I could have chosen from this year's Christmas gifts anything from beautiful pieces of antique jewellery to a Little Red Riding Hood themed tassel made just for me, a tutu for my little bear Scout, to a hand made Christmas card designed with me in mind. All are notable and worthy, and the possibilities are infinite. In the end, hoping that I do not cause offense in doing so to the givers of the other gifts, I finally settled on one precious gift. This is a half-doll who is a brush half-doll (or whisk broom half-doll in you are in America). Made in Germany by Dressel and Kister, and hand painted, this was a gift to me from a very dear friend in America this Christmas. Why did I choose it? Well, I chose it for a number of reasons. Firstly, this friend is very precious to me, and enrichens my life with her presence, which alone makes any gift that she gives me intrinsically valuable. This friend now collects half-dolls as voraciously as I do, because I introduced her to the world of half-dolls, so this gift resonates with both of us and helps strengthen what is already a strong bond between us. I chose it because my friend and I both like to fossick in antique and curio shops, charity shops and auctions for forgotten and hidden treasures, and she fossicked around and found me this particular doll because she thought I would like it, which makes it very personalised. I chose it because, unbeknownce to my friend, stuck between the bristles of the broom and well hidden, was a secreted small slip of paper that I only noticed after I was looking over the half-doll closely after unwrapping her. The note, written in tiny spidery copperplate reads, "My parents gave this brush to my Grandmother Hannah in the 1930s". So this discovery resonates with my sense of domestic history, was a lovely bonus neither my friend nor I were expecting, and adds to the half-doll's value for me, as now I know a bit about her life story. I think that makes this half-doll perfect for this week's theme! I do hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Überraschend kam am Freitag den 07. Oktober 2022 die EBS-Wumme V 200 507 durch’s Vogtland. Die Lz-Fahrt zum Sergejtreffen in Lužná wurde dabei auf der Elstertalbahn in Plauen und Weischlitz bildlich festgehalten.

41 1144 ist hier mit dem wahrscheinlich in der letzten Saison verkehrenden Elstertal-Express alias RC 5398 Cheb – Gera Hbf unterwegs. Am Haltepunkt Plauen-Mitte konnte Deutschlands einziger internationale Dampfbespannte Regional-Express fotografiert werden – 10.10.2021.

232 413 war am 21. September 2022 mit einem Getreidezug von Adorf/Vogtland nach Leipzig-Plagwitz unterwegs. Im sich gerade auflösenden Nebelband konnte der Sonderzug in Plauen (Vogtl.) unterer Bahnhof fotografiert werden.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 24th of May is “here is the H”, a theme where it is required to take a photo where something beginning with the letter H should be the main subject of the picture. In this case, I have managed to capture a few items that begin with the letter H. Lady Harriet Hartley wears a lovely Nell Gynne hat (the first H) in a most becoming shade of mauve. Her hair (the second H) is set in a stylish coiffure and she holds her hands (the third H) to her chest as she walks. One could also identify that her head (a fourth H) is the main focus of our attention. Lady Harriet Hartley is also a half-doll (another potential H, although I am not counting it because it hyphenated). I think that makes this photo perfect for the theme! I do hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Heute gibt es ein Foto von einem LEG-Pärchen welches einen Kesselzug von Bitterfeld nach Neustadt/Donau beförderte.

Ich betätigte den Auslöser am ehemaligen Posten 81 nahe Plauen.

In 1699, Seiffen resident Johann Friedrich Hiemann took Seiffen toys to market at Nuremberg. Nuremberg was a toy distribution market for much of Europe at that time. Seiffen was able to break into this large toy market thanks to two factors. First, the low cost of living and economic depression in the Ore Mountains allowed prices much lower than the rest of European toy manufacturers selling at the Nuremberg market. Second, the high quality of toys being produced in Seiffen.

Ersatzweise für die zur Hauptuntersuchung befindliche 076 111 der Stahlwerk Thüringen GmbH ist die von der Eisenbahnbau- und Betriebsgesellschaft Pressnitztalbahn mbH angemietete 223 052 aka 253 015 im Einsatz. Am 07. September 2022 hatte ich die Gelegenheit den nahezu täglich verkehrenden Güterzug von Unterwellenborn nach Cheb (CZ) an den Pöllwitzer Teichen zu fotografieren.
