In 1699, Seiffen resident Johann Friedrich Hiemann took Seiffen toys to market at Nuremberg. Nuremberg was a toy distribution market for much of Europe at that time. Seiffen was able to break into this large toy market thanks to two factors. First, the low cost of living and economic depression in the Ore Mountains allowed prices much lower than the rest of European toy manufacturers selling at the Nuremberg market. Second, the high quality of toys being produced in Seiffen.
232 413 war am 21. September 2022 mit einem Getreidezug von Adorf/Vogtland nach Leipzig-Plagwitz unterwegs. Im sich gerade auflösenden Nebelband konnte der Sonderzug in Plauen (Vogtl.) unterer Bahnhof fotografiert werden.

Heute gibt es ein Foto von einem LEG-Pärchen welches einen Kesselzug von Bitterfeld nach Neustadt/Donau beförderte.
Ich betätigte den Auslöser am ehemaligen Posten 81 nahe Plauen.
Petra sat at her dressing table and admired her handsome reflection from three different angles in her triptych vanity. She wasn’t old, but she didn’t feel as young as she had before the War, and the fine lines appearing around her eyes told her that she wasn’t the ingénue she had been in her debut season in 1912. She dabbed her features lightly with face powder and applied rouge to her cheeks. As she did so, she considered that nothing was quite the same after the armistice in 1918, and it felt like the world was spinning faster on its axis as the pace of life in London fizzed with frenetic energy and sped up as they moved through what was being coined, the “Jazz Age” by witty American writers across the Atlantic in New York.
“Still, there is nothing like a new hat to make you feel younger,” Petra remarked with a smirk as she picked up the striped round cardboard box tied with gaily coloured ribbons. “And you can never have too many hats, gloves or shoes.”
Petra sighed pleasurably as she affixed the white cloche adorned with a simple green, red and white striped ribbon atop her head. It fit snugly, as well it should, considering how much she had paid her milliner for it. Prices were mirroring the increased velocity in the pace of life, and six guineas bought far less in the way of headwear these days than the wide brimmed and romantic picture hats she wore before the War. She adjusted it so it sat on a slightly more jaunty angle with the brim placed higher above her left temple and lower over her right ear. She snatched up her comb and teased out some of her freshly coiffed marcelled waves poking out beneath her new hat. She tinkered with them until she was happy with how they sat, framing her face in soft brown curls.
“Ahh! Sheer bliss!” she purred as she dabbed Lanvin’s Arpège behind her shell-like ears.
Satisfied, she then draped a luxurious forest green silk scarf with Brunswick green polkadots around her neck, adjusting it until it sat just so over her collar bones. Finally, she withdrew a tube of lipstick and slicked her lips with its glossy pillar box red coating, fashioning the perfect cupid’s bow which she used to then blow her reflection a kiss.
“Very good!” Petra enthused to her three reflections as she moved her head both left and right to admire the view. “Certainly good enough for tea with Minnie at Selfridges roof garden, at any rate!”
And so it was that a half hour and two London motor buses later, Petra strode into the premier social destination and leisure oasis of Oxford Street with all the confidence and self-assurance of a woman of the age. As she was shown to the linen draped table set with tea for two, where her best friend Minnie was sitting, Petra could feel the eyes of other women glancing enviously at her as they admired and coveted her natty new hat, and she knew then that the six guineas she had paid her modiste was well worth it.

I recently acquired a new 1920s German made half-doll of a lady very modishly dressed to add to my collection of lovely ladies, from a private collector in Britain who is downsizing and selling some of her collection. And here she is! She is so elegant and beautifully painted that I wanted to share her with you all.
Being so deliciously Deco, I have stood my half-doll in front of an original pochoir fashion plate from a 1925 edition of the French fabric manufacturer's periodical Art–Goût–Beauté (A.G.B.) (Art-Style-Beauty). Art–Goût–Beauté was a lavish magazine published between 1924 and 1927 marketed to an extremely wealthy clientele, filled with pochoir plates. Pochoir is a hand stencilled printing technique.
The "half-doll" is a dainty porcelain or bisque figurine, fashionable in the early Twentieth Century with an upper body, head, arms, but no legs. These dolls were produced in the thousands at the height of their popularity by German factories such as Dressel and Kister, Heubach, Goebel and Kestner. Later these half-dolls were produced in France, America and later still, in Japan. They commonly served as handles and toppers for fabric covers made for powder boxes on ladies’ dressing tables and small brushes, however they were also made for jewellery boxes, pincushions, tea cosies and other covers. In this case, my German half-doll is very fashionably and contemporarily dressed (for the time) with Art Deco ideals of beauty. She is medium-sized, so I imagine that she would have been made either for a pincushion or for a lady’s boudoir, and if so, was most likely the topper for a powder bowl, a powder puff or brush. She has been hand painted.
Mit einer Bettungsreinigungsmaschine waren am letzten Julitag 2021 die beiden PRESS-Loks 204 036 & 005 von Plauen (V) oberer Bahnhof nach Rottenbach unterwegs. Nach einigen Minuten des Wartens durch eine Überholung sowie Kreuzung, konnte ich die Fuhre in Plauen (V) unterer Bahnhof dokumentieren.

Aufgrund von Bauarbeiten auf der KBS 860 Marktredwitz - Cheb (CZ) zwischen Schirnding und den Staatsgrenzen, wurde das nahezu täglich verkehrende Schrottzugpaar über die KBS 544 übergeleitet. Den Leerschrottzug DGS 48381 konnte ich dabei zufällig am 16. September 2022 an der Überleitstelle Pirk fotografieren.
Zum Ostersonntag 2022 gab es, wie soll es anders sein Osterdampf.
Die IG 58 3047 e.V. aus Glauchau lud mit ihrer 35 1097 zu zwei Rundfahrten im Vogtland ein. Zur ersten Vogtlandrunde wurde der DPE 74326, welcher von Falkenstein über Adorf, Weischlitz und Plauen ob Bf zurück nach Falkenstein führte, nahe Eich aufgenommen.
Lady Harriet Hartley hunts hesitantly for a hedgehog through a hedge on her Hereford estate, careful not to let the branches ensnare her hair or hat, or scratch her delicate hands and face. Why? Well, that I cannot tell you. You had best as her yourself.
The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 24th of May is “here is the H”, a theme where it is required to take a photo where something beginning with the letter H should be the main subject of the picture. In this case, I have managed to capture a few items that begin with the letter H. Lady Harriet Hartley wears a lovely Nell Gynne hat (the first H) in a most becoming shade of mauve. Her hair (the second H) is set in a stylish coiffure and she holds her hands (the third H) to her chest as she walks. One could also identify that her head (a fourth H) is the main focus of our attention. Lady Harriet Hartley is also a half-doll (another potential H, although I am not counting it because it hyphenated). I think that makes this photo perfect for the theme! I do hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

She is one of my larger half-dolls and nine centimetres in height, so I imagine she would have probably been a topper for a jewellery box, brush or pincushion.
Am 01. Oktober 2022 unternahm der Thüringer Eisenbahnverein Weimar eine Thüringenrundfahrt mit der Taigatrommel V 200 507 und einem Reisezug. Die Fahrt führte durch den Thüringer Wald, Oberhof, Suhl, Schweinfurt und Lichtenfels nach Sonneberg als Zwischenziel. Ich habe den Sonderzug in Gräfenroda abgepasst.
Eine Maximal Bespannung gab es am 29.05.2020 in Jößnitz zu erleben. Die 263 004 hatte die Aufgabe die am Tag zuvor Schadhaft geworden Schwesterloks von Hof und später von Plauen nach Kayna mit einem Abraumzug zu überführen.
Die Übergabe ER 53941 von Marktredwitz nach Plauen unterer Bahnhof war am 19. März 2020 außerplanmäßig mit der Großdiesellokomotive 232 262 bespannt. Mir gönnte die Sonne an diesem Tag leider nur dieses eine Foto. Hier passiert die „ausgelastete“ Fuhre die Syratalbrücke in Plauen.

Am 28. März 2012 ergab sich die Gelegenheit mit einem weiteren Freund und Fotokollegen einmal die WISMUT-Werksbahn rund um Schmirchau zu besuchen. Unter anderem konnte ein Leerzug mit V 300 004 nahe Rußdorf der zurück zur Beladung nach Kayna fuhr dokumentiert werden.
A class Sr3 Vectron locomotive is hauling a tanker their to Hagonsaari while enjoying nice surroundings that the spring has revealed under the snow layers. The Vectron can clearly shiny in these surroundings.
Am sonnigen Vormittag des 12. Mai 2020 konnten die beiden zu „Cargo Logistik Rail Service GmbH“ kurz CLR gehörenden dänischen MY 1138 und 1142 mit ihrem Holzzug (DGS 95301 Freiberg – Plattling) fotografiert werden.
Unter dem Motto „Vogtlandrundfahrt mit Dampf ins Gebirge“ unternahm am 16.10.2021 die SEM Vereinseigene 50 3648 eine Rundfahrt von Chemnitz nach Chemnitz über Zwickau, Plauen, Adorf, Gunzen, Falkenstein & Zwickau. In Weischlitz konnte ich die 50er bei der Einfahrt fotodokumentarisch festhalten.
An zwei Wochenenden im Oktober 2020 verkehrte wieder einmal der Elstertal-Express mit der Dampflok 41 1144 der IGE „Werrabahn Eisenach“ e.V.. Aufgrund der Einstufung des Landes Tschechien als Risikogebiet für die Ausbreitung von Covid19 und der damit erlassenen Reisewarnung des Auswärtigen Amtes für touristische Reisen nach Tschechien, verkehrte der Dampf-Express in diesem Jahr nur von Gera bis nach Bad Brambach.
Am Freitag dem 05. August 2022 ergab sich während meines Dienst die Gelegenheit, die beiden bei Railsystems RP GmbH eingestellten Lokomotiven, 218 490 und 218 381 mit ihrem Schwellenzug in Plauen Vogtland Oberer Bahnhof zu fotografieren.
Mit dem 98603 legt sich am Abend des 28. Mai 2020 die HVLE 246 001 am ehemaligen Bahnhof Syrau in den Bogen.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 3rd of January is "precious gift", a theme where it is required to take a photo of something that was gifted to you, that you hold precious. It can be monetarily precious, or intrinsically valuable. I am very fortunate in the fact that I have ever so many people in my life that love me, both family and friends, that I have a multitude of choices for this theme. I could have chosen from this year's Christmas gifts anything from beautiful pieces of antique jewellery to a Little Red Riding Hood themed tassel made just for me, a tutu for my little bear Scout, to a hand made Christmas card designed with me in mind. All are notable and worthy, and the possibilities are infinite. In the end, hoping that I do not cause offense in doing so to the givers of the other gifts, I finally settled on one precious gift. This is a half-doll who is a brush half-doll (or whisk broom half-doll in you are in America). Made in Germany by Dressel and Kister, and hand painted, this was a gift to me from a very dear friend in America this Christmas. Why did I choose it? Well, I chose it for a number of reasons. Firstly, this friend is very precious to me, and enrichens my life with her presence, which alone makes any gift that she gives me intrinsically valuable. This friend now collects half-dolls as voraciously as I do, because I introduced her to the world of half-dolls, so this gift resonates with both of us and helps strengthen what is already a strong bond between us. I chose it because my friend and I both like to fossick in antique and curio shops, charity shops and auctions for forgotten and hidden treasures, and she fossicked around and found me this particular doll because she thought I would like it, which makes it very personalised. I chose it because, unbeknownce to my friend, stuck between the bristles of the broom and well hidden, was a secreted small slip of paper that I only noticed after I was looking over the half-doll closely after unwrapping her. The note, written in tiny spidery copperplate reads, "My parents gave this brush to my Grandmother Hannah in the 1930s". So this discovery resonates with my sense of domestic history, was a lovely bonus neither my friend nor I were expecting, and adds to the half-doll's value for me, as now I know a bit about her life story. I think that makes this half-doll perfect for this week's theme! I do hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Wir schreiben den 10. Februar 2012. Die Diesellok 204 013 der Eisenbahn-Bau- und Betriebsgesellschaft Pressnitztalbahn mbH überführt hier einen Holzzug von Borstel nach Niedergörne zum dortigen Zellstoffwerk.
Erneut ergab sich die Gelegenheit einen Güterzug im Tal der Weißen Elster fotodokumentarisch fest zu halten. Bespannt wurde der Zug wieder mit 232 701 der ARP Logistik GmbH aus Saalburg-Ebersdorf.
„Männertag (nicht nur) für echte Männer – oder: mit dem 2200-PS-Bollerwagen unterwegs!“
So lautete der Slogan der Lipsia Erlebnisreisen GmbH aus Leipzig, welche am 26. Mai 2022 mit ihrem Sonderzug von Leipzig Hauptbahnhof über Gera, Zeulenroda und Hof nach Nördlingen unterwegs waren. Der etwas übermotorisierte Zug konnte in einer passenden Wolkenlücke in Mehltheuer fotografiert werden.

Am sonnigen Vormittag des 12. Mai 2020 konnten die beiden zu „Cargo Logistik Rail Service GmbH“ kurz CLR gehörenden dänischen MY 1138 und 1142 mit ihrem Holzzug (DGS 95301 Freiberg – Plattling) fotografiert werden.
Am 10. März 2022 ergab sich die Möglichkeit die bei der Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko zu deutsch wörtlich übersetzt Eisenbahngesellschaft Slowakei eingesetzte 383 208 mit einem Kesselzug, welcher von Großkorbetha nach Kutý als DGS 47381 verkehrte nahe Plauen zu fotografieren.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 4th of October is “lips”. In this case, I have opted to photograph the father stylised cupid’s bow lips of one of my German half-dolls made by Dressel and Kister, who were famous for making high quality dolls. Her 1920s cupid’s bow lips are (or rather were) modish for the times she was made in the 1920s, yet they are at odds with the rest of her garb, which is very romanticised English late Seventeenth Century Nell Gwynne style, where she wears a floppy lilac coloured hat decorated with feathers and a blue blouse with lace at the collar and cuffs, rater reminiscent of some of the pre-war advertisements for Yardley’s English Lavender Soap. In spite of this contradiction, she is by far one of my finest painted half-dolls and was a recent acquisition from a small antiques and curios shop. She came home along with three other German half-dolls (as if I need any more) which I have added to my ever expanding collection. I am a hopelessly voracious collector of objects! I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

"Hear, hear, hear vengeance—O gods!—Hear a mother's oath." – from "Der Hölle Rache" ("Hell's vengeance boils in my heart") – also known as the Queen of the Night Aria, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), (1791).
Long before Whitney Houston sung about being Queen of the Night in the 1992 Hollywood film The Bodyguard, in 1791, Wolfgang Amedeus Mozart wrote a fantastical opera blending faerie tale adventure with Enlightenment ideals, called Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute). Prince Tamino is sent on a quest to rescue Princess Pamina, aided by a magic flute and his comic companion Papageno. Through trials of wisdom, courage, and love, Tamino discovers that the true enemy is ignorance, not the mysterious brotherhood led by the high priest, Sarastro. The opera celebrates harmony between reason and emotion, light and darkness. One of the most vivid and electrifying characters in Mozart’s opera is the Queen of the Night: a complex, vengeful villainess, and a dazzling soprano role famous for her fiery coloratura arias. After her husband dies, his magical talisman passes to her rival, Sarastro. When Sarastro takes the Queen's daughter, Pamina, the Queen manipulates Prince Tamino into rescuing her. In Act II, pushed to the brink of despair, she sings her famous coloratura aria "Der Hölle Rache" ("Hell's vengeance boils in my heart"). She hands Pamina a knife and demands she assassinate Sarastro, or be disowned forever.
It is the Queen of the Night who inspired me to create this image using one of my more recently acquired Dressel Kister & Cie half-dolls. This elegant Art Nouveau style lady, with her muted grey hair held aloft by golden hair ornaments, her ivory body, and her delicate blush cheeks, is from the late 1910s, and she is part if the “lady with gesture” sculpt family. The 22206-mould number appears in several Dressel Kister & Cie catalogue references for small vanity half dolls with expressive gestures — often used atop powder boxes or pincushions. To give her a sense of drama as befits the Queen of the Night, and wrap her up into the murky darkness, I have enveloped her in some hand dyed pleated wool crêpe in a dark greyish blue hue which I also mirrors her striated hair. The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 25th of July is an "open day theme" where I am allowed to post a photograph of my own choice. I hope you like my image for this week’s open theme, and that it makes you smile!

In this case, this three and a half inch high half-doll is part of Dressel Kister & Cie's luxury line, and was made for either a jewellery case, a powder puff, pin cushion or a boudoir lamp.
Dressel Kister & Cie were one of the most important German porcelain manufacturers of the Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries, best known today for their exquisitely modelled figurines and half‑dolls. Their history spans both Thuringia and Passau, and the name appears in several related factory phases. Dressel Kister began as a Thuringian porcelain works in the mid‑1800s, producing pipe bowls, doll heads, and eventually high‑quality figurines. By the early Twentieth Century, the Passau branch (Dressel, Kister & Cie.) became especially known for luxury figurines and half‑dolls, many of which are highly collectible today. The early factory in Scheibe‑Alsbach, Thuringia was active under the name Dressel, Kister & Co. from 1844 to 1863, producing small porcelain items and later expanding into figures. A later branch, Dressel, Kister & Cie. in Passau, was established after three businessmen purchased a factory in 1853. This branch produced high‑quality figurines and half‑dolls, exporting worldwide. The business thrived, making half‑dolls (including exotic themes like parrots, dancers, and ladies with animals) and high‑quality figurines inspired by Meissen and Höchst traditions, all with finely painted faces, delicate modeling, and elegant poses. When the Great Depression hit, Dressel, Kister & Cie suffered as so many people no longer had money spare to buy their luxury porcelain items, and the Passau factory finally went bankrupt in 1936, and was absorbed into the Volkstedter porcelain group. Export pieces, often unmarked or marked only with mould numbers were produced and sent to France and England until the Great Depression.

745 701 von RailTransport-Stift überführte am 07. November 2019 einen RegioJet-Schlafwagen von Prag nach Karsdorf. Ich hatte die Gelegenheit diesen Zug, der stark an die damaligen Nahverkehrszüge erinnert, im Bahnhof Barthmühle bei einem Kreuzungsaufenthalt zu fotografieren.
Nach ziemlich genau 8573 Tagen kehrte der SVT aus eigener Kraft zurück ins Vogtland. Dank der atemberaubenden Kraftstoffpreise entschloss ich mich meinem Kirchturm treu zu bleiben und habe kurzerhand Stellung nahe Jößnitz bezogen und folgenden Schnappschuss angefertigt.
Bei bestem Winterwetterverhältnissen konnte am 18. Januar 2019 zum ersten mal die SEL (Schlünß Eisenbahnlogistik) 234 278, welche zu Diensten der EGP (Eisenbahngesellschaft Potsdam) steht mit einem leeren Kesselzug (DGS 95707 Gera - Neustadt (Donau)) fotografiert werden.
Mit dem DGS 52653 Kayna - Kaufering, war am vorletzten Tag im Feburar 2022 die SBW 159 212 nahe Syrau unterwegs.
