What an absolute surprise to ascend to the upper floor of Macy's in Herald Square and find these beauties.

A 2010 photo of the now closed Macy's in Voorhees, NJ. Strawbridge & Clothier opened here in October 1970 with the opening of what was Echelon Mall, today Voorhees Town center. One of the S&C seals is visible in this shot. Macy's closed here in early 2017.
With the IDS Center in the background.
Killing time, waiting to meet friends for dinner at the Local.
We met Lee,with Max and Macy,in How Tun Woods this afternoon.Lee kept shouting to Macy, wanting her to follow him,but she preferred to stay and watch Benjy hunting for the treasure.
I believe that this chandelier has been here since the store opened in 1965 though it is possible it came from somewhere else, such as, the old O'Neil's flagship store. It is surprisingly ornate for a chandelier in a department store!
This store was opened in August 1965 as an O'Neil's Department store. Afterwards, there were a series of name changes; to May Company, to Kaufmann's, and finally to Macy's. This store is still operating as of 2017, despite being located in a largely vacant strip mall (with a Meijer store proposed). The store itself is free-standing, which is rare for a Macy's. Also, being only 83,000 square feet is small for a Macy's store. Most interestingly though, this store still has much of the 1960s design inside with two chandeliers, a vintage department store ceiling, and wood cosmetic counters.

The Macy's store in Chicago is on an Architectural walking tour. The following links show some of the artistic vintage features in that store:

I was in Weehawken for the Macy's fireworks show and captured this scene. It was such a long day but well worth it. Cliff Peterson and I got there at about 12:30 to secure our spots. By the time 7 PM rolled around the place was packed!
The show was great!
Thanks for looking!
Danny

The Oakland Mall opened in 1968. The original anchor stores were Sears and Hudson's. Another wing with JCPenney was added in 1979. Hudson's became Marshall Field's in 2001 and Macy's in 2006. The Oakland Mall is a fairly large mall at 1,500,000 square feet.
