One of my very first attempts with my macro lens. Plenty of hard work to be done to master it, but I love capabilities already.

Galaxy of nature on earth

Lens: Nikon 105mm f2.8 Micro

When life gives you limes...photograph them!

A random night in playing with sparklers hand held.....note to self....use a tripod next time!

Out on my daily escape from the lockdown...decided to take my Sigma 105mm macro lense to have a little play around.

Another attempt at oil on water photography

We hope you all had an amazing Christmas, along with some downtime to get the camera out! We have been spending some time shooting pocket watches in our latest Youtube video. You can watch it here - youtu.be/MRS2BOdr9po

Many of you will recognise this little pocket watch from The Photography Show, we use it quite a lot to demonstrate the capabilities of the Adaptalux Studio. Reflective, detailed subjects like this can be tricky to light, so you need the flexibility that the Lighting Arms of the studio provide.

In this video, we spend some time looking at the differences between white Diffusers, Colour Filters and Lighting Arms. Adding colour to subjects like this can often be done more for fun than practicality, but there are some subtle tricks you can use to enhance even a "natural" looking shot.

For this shot, we went a little wild with the blue and red lights, but replacing those colours with white would be equally effective at showing off the engraved details of the watch. If you want to read a little more about how we set up the lighting for a shot like this, check out the blog post on our website - bit.ly/adaptaluxWatches

Lagria hirta

Nikon D500 Sigma 105mm

Lagria hirta is a species of beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. The species name hirta comes from the Latin hirtus meaning rough hair or rough wool, referring to the coarse, fuzzy appearance of the beetle.

You have to look very closely to see it since it is a very small beetle, but as you can see, it is quite showy.

Pine cones are a quick and easy subject to shoot at home, so we thought we would take a look at how to get some cool and creative shots from a couple of pine cones in our latest tutorial video.

Watch it here - youtu.be/KyF3I8vjrNI

A lot of you may have seen the pine cone shot on our homepage, it's one of our favourite shots to demonstrate what the Adaptalux Studio can do. We used the same pine cone (and a new one) to get a few more interesting shots.

A shot like this is achieved by pointing two coloured Lighting Arms across each other, shining onto the pine cone. You can see more about the setup in the video or the blog post here - bit.ly/adaptaluxpines

The coloured lights shine off the spines of the pine cones really well. Depending on the angle of the camera and the lights, they can create some amazing highlights along the ridges of each spine and shadows deep in the pine cone where the light can't reach.

For this shot, we used an amber and blue Lighting Arm with a Diffuser to create a soft light in the front, with a harsh, almost fire-like glow coming from behind. Shooting along the length of the pine cone like this forces the background out of focus and makes the shot look even more surreal.

We think the addition of colour to a subject like this can really take your creativity to another level, what do you think to shooting pine cones in this style?

Playing with oil on water and ended up with air bubbles, in the oil bubbles in the water.

A macro photograph capturing the fiery beauty of a yellow flower with deep red accents at its core. The intricate detail of its pollen-covered stamens and glowing petals evokes warmth, energy, and the brilliance of nature in bloom.

Playing with my Sigma macro 105mm and some household items.

“Convergent Evolution”

Some insects are as big as small birds.

“The hummingbird hawk-moth” is a species of hawk moth found across temperate regions of Eurasia. The species is named for its similarity to hummingbirds, as they feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air; this resemblance is an example of convergent evolution.

Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8

Whilst awaiting a casual honey bee or anything somewhat exciting to be frank....the only thing that turned up was a little fly...

A close-up macro shot of a delicate white flower, its golden stamens glowing in the gentle light of spring. The soft focus and warm tones evoke a sense of calm, purity, and the fleeting beauty of nature’s smallest wonders.

The internal spring from a broken pen and some droplets of water make for a very interesting macro subject

Another attempt at photographing bubbles in a dish soap bottle. Getting better but it is still a challenge!

Spotted this little guy on our hose pipe stand.

He was tiny, smaller than a pea but with a macro lens he suddenly becomes more than just a tiny jumping spider. He has eyes, and hairs and all this detail you wouldn't normally be able to see! 💜

Does anyone know if this a certain kind of jumping spider? 🤔

Would love to know it's name if it has one 👍
