My hubby planted these a couple of years back, but this is the first year that they have flowered so well. I am pretty sure that they are freesias, but they don't have the beautiful smell of the white and yellow varieties. I will be out most of the day visiting my son and his family. I haven't seen them for nearly three months as they have been travelling around the USA, Ireland and Germany. Can't wait to see my little grandchildren.

Still experimenting with the macro world's shallow DoF. On top of that, I tried to give this shot a distinct film look. Enjoy!

It is native to the steppes and hills of southwestern and central Asia. Successful over a wide range of climate and soil conditions, it has since become popular and widely planted.

The flowering season of S. yangii can be as long as June through October. The inflorescence is a showy panicle, 30–38 cm long (12–15 in), with many branches. Each flower's calyx is purple, densely covered in white or purple hairs, and about 4 millimetres (1⁄8 in) long. The corolla is tube-shaped, formed from a four-lobed upper lip and a slightly shorter lower lip; the blue or violet blue petals are about 1 cm long.

This is one of the Big Eight common and widespread bumblebees.Buff-tailed bumblebees are the biggest of the bumblebees and emerge in early spring. They are named after the buff-coloured tail of their queen, as the worker bees have almost white tails, which makes them easy to mistake for white-tailed bumblebees! They love all types of flowers but especially like open daisy-like flowers, where they can more easily reach the nectar with their short tongues. They nest underground in large groups of up to 600 bees often using old mammal nests.

One of the first signs of spring. While not native to these shores, these hardy flowers have become a familiar indicator of the shifting seasons and a sure sign that warmer weather is on its way

I have lots of these Milkweed bugs this year on, where else, my milkweed. Allegedly, they feed on the seeds of the milkweed seed pods, which seem also lots more than previous years. So, meanwhile, this one sampled a small Monarch larva that died for one reason or another. Clearly, at least one other thing had already dug into my beloved caterpillar. So there you have it, another micro story from Jan's front yard.

I can thank my Flickr pal Chris Firth, who just got a new macro lens, for reminding me of the macro world around me this morning. Check it large if you dare - the "true bug" is sucking away I guess.

I feel drawn to B&W more and more recently. Or maybe it's just that I have learned (a little) better what works in colour and what in monochrome. Sometimes, I even think "This is a B&W scene" while shooting. Unheard of a few years ago ;) But what looks good in black and white in the macro world? If there's no colour to play with, either the subject has to have "something extra", patterns, texture, depth, something that retains interest when there is no colour, or the setup should provide something interesting such as light.

I collected a few possible subjects like my silver Airdale terrier brooch covered in grey jet stones (or rhinestones) that give it a blingy yet elegant look. Or a simple tin lid, partly broken where I had screwed a bottle open (I thought I could play with backlight and use the crack in the lid). The lid was nothing in B&W but I could have made something of the terrier brooch (and probably will for another theme).

But in the end, I returned to my very first idea: the mode dial of one of my cameras. It (almost) is a black-and-white subject by nature because there only is silver and black (the center ring which doesn't have any functionality other than making the mode dial slightly higher than the other dials, to make it easier accessible and/or set it apart from the other dials, I assume). The dial also has a nice haptic structure of numerous protruding tiny pyramid shapes for a good grip. To get extra close to the tiny pyramids, I mounted the Laowa 50mm 2x Ultra macro, so this is a single shot, only illuminated from above by my daylight photo lamp.

I'm busy today and will catch up with you later!

HMM, Everyone!

Makrowelt

ENG:

Macro photography is a photography technique that allows very small objects to be seen in large, detailed detail. This method is ideal for photographing tiny things like insects, flowers, textures, or other small details that are difficult to see with the naked eye.

To achieve good macro photos, you can use:

A macro lens or accessories like macro rings

Good lighting, often natural light or additional lamps

A stable tripod or camera holder to reduce camera shake

Accessible camera settings for focus and depth of field

GER:

Lovely little purples at Nymans gardens didn't notice the little bee till i uploaded the images...a delightful capture of nature usually hardly noticed sometimes..

🇭🇷 "Jutarnje suze i krila tišine"

🇬🇧 "Morning dew and wings of silence"

As the day is just being born and sunlight quietly slips through the damp blades of grass, butterflies – those delicate messengers of nature – patiently dry their wings, bathed in the warm rays of the rising sun.

This photo was taken early this morning, in a moment when life slowly awakens its colors. Captured with the Canon R7 and TTArtisan 100mm f/2.8 Macro 2X – a lens that teaches me patience and precision with every click.

The macro world holds quiet dramas, and today I was lucky enough to witness one of them. 🍃

Take a look inside the micro macro world of a flower:)

Linda Lake, British Columbia, Canada

The first time I saw this pleasant subalpine lake I was struck by its undisturbable tranquility and uncompromised color quality. When it comes to a near flawless landscape, the art is deciding on which descriptive elements to use.

It was the triangular mountain base adorned with vivid green trees and pointing arrow-like into the deep forest, which caught my eye. The still lake surface shows perfect reflective symmetry, the mirror illusion being especially intensified along the line where water and land meet, appearing almost unreal. It is an impressive experience to see exact symmetry displayed so boldly in nature. Despite the powerful mirror-symmetry, I decided to pull viewers back to an asymmetric macro world by including foreground rocks to provide a sense of depth.

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, infraorder Anisoptera. Adult dragonflies are characterized by large, multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, sometimes with coloured patches, and an elongated body

Dragonflies are insects in the sub-order Anisoptera (meaning “unequal-winged”). In Great Britain and Ireland there are about 30 species that may be encountered

It continues impressing me seeing so much life in such little spaces! It's made me more mindful where I step when the signs say "sensitive vegetation."

Aging and health changed how much ground I can cover. Where once I frequently covered many miles on the steepest trails, there are days, now, I'm limited to a mile or kilometer --at most-- on flat ground. Discovering and appreciating the macro world is good, because, when I slow down and look, there's plenty to see on my short journeys, too. There's a universe in every footstep I never noticed, before.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

Such a common phrase these days....but has so much truth.....

It's in everything around us....but not always visible....unless we

really look for it.

In a Macro World...it's like a whole new world that opens it's doors

for us to marvel and wonder..........and realize the beauty in every tiny living thing.....even in a pesky weed like the dandelion....that we try so hard to irradicate........and like most weeds.....they are the strongest of any living thing on this beautiful planet.

This was the book that Ann and I produced during the lockdown year of Covid. We stayed completely in our local area and concentrated on the macro world of natural history. The amount of species obtained were far less than normal but we did find a few new ones which was great surprise.

A day ago I put on the original photo of the camera(s) that was used for the dust jacket.

As its English names suggest, the Gatekeeper (also known as the Hedge Brown) is often encountered where clumps of flowers grow in gateways and along hedgerows and field edges. It is often seen together with the Meadow Brown and Ringlet, from which it is easily distinguished when basking or nectaring with open wings.

In the harsh morning cold, ice crystals form and settle as frost on branches and grasses. As if by magic, this natural phenomenon transforms entire landscapes overnight. I find it particularly fascinating to take a closer look into the frozen macro world. Here, photographers are presented with new opportunities, yet they are fleeting and short-lived.
