The real wonder in this image is that it is an optical illusion. Most people see the bright veins as being raised above the green between, but the veins are actually recessed. The backlighting at an angle to the surface and the translucence of the leaf create the illusion. Knowing that, some can make the transition of perception and see the recessed veins. Can you?

Macro Mondays ……. Theme " Remedy"

The daily routine of taking medication, taken from their blister packs, the macro highlights the subtle differences in size, shape and the alpha numeric identification in this assortment of tablets.

I am pleased to say the medication is not prescribed to me.

Thank you for your views, faves and comments very much appreciated.

When moving around with a macro lens, a completely new and fascinating world opens up. Found this incredible, alien-like structure while exploring the Akionlahti nature reserve in Oulu, Finland. It looks like a tiny football, but it is actually the ripening seed capsule of an Arctic Starflower (Lysimachia europaea).

Eupholus is a genus of beetle in the family Curculionidae. The genus includes some of the most colourful of the weevils. The colour may serve as a warning to predators that they are distasteful. Most species feed upon yam leaves, some of which are toxic to other animals. The species occur in New Guinea and adjacent islands. This genus was described by French entomologist Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Dechauffour de Boisduval in 1835.

Sometimes photos don't quite turn out how we plan...like this one.🙈 I was intending to take a crisp macro shot of these water droplets, but instead I ended up with this dreamy abstract looking image. Which I love, by the way, much more than the image I thought I was taking 💜

What photos have you taken that you've loved more than the planned shot?

There's not a great deal to photograph in our garden at the moment (we've got a big trip to the garden centre planned once lockdown ends), but on closer inspection these little guys were hard at work.

had seen this one at my backyard , taken on late evening 07.00 pm.. still had plenty of light :)

We hope you all had an amazing Christmas, along with some downtime to get the camera out! We have been spending some time shooting pocket watches in our latest Youtube video. You can watch it here - youtu.be/MRS2BOdr9po

Many of you will recognise this little pocket watch from The Photography Show, we use it quite a lot to demonstrate the capabilities of the Adaptalux Studio. Reflective, detailed subjects like this can be tricky to light, so you need the flexibility that the Lighting Arms of the studio provide.

In this video, we spend some time looking at the differences between white Diffusers, Colour Filters and Lighting Arms. Adding colour to subjects like this can often be done more for fun than practicality, but there are some subtle tricks you can use to enhance even a "natural" looking shot.

For this shot, we went a little wild with the blue and red lights, but replacing those colours with white would be equally effective at showing off the engraved details of the watch. If you want to read a little more about how we set up the lighting for a shot like this, check out the blog post on our website - bit.ly/adaptaluxWatches
