Known for their bright purple foliage and small pink flowers, Tradescantia pallida, a perennial native to the Gulf Coast region of Eastern Mexico is now widely cultivated in warm climates as an ornamental plant for rock gardens, borders, or as hanging plants. They don't survive the cold months and must be taken indoors for that period. We have these growing outdoors all year in the desert regions in California.

Die Veränderliche Hummel (Bombus humilis) ist das Chamäleon unter den Hummeln.

Sie hat ihren deutschen Namen aufgrund ihrer sehr unterschiedlichen Farbvarianten.

Das Hummelnest dieser Art wird oberirdisch unter Moospolstern oder in der Krautschicht angelegt.

Man findet sie auf naturnahen Wiesen. Da die meisten Wiesen mittlerweile aber intensiv bewirtschaftet werden, ist sie inzwischen in Deutschland selten geworden.

I found this spider in the back of my car after loading some items that had been outside so I scooped it up and let it lose in my yard. I have never seen one like this before so I don’t know what kind it is. It’s about ½” long.

Look into the light. This was a spur of the moment macro set up as the weather was poor outside. With the help of a tea light, some left over shiny Christmas paper, and a Sigma 105mm macro lens at f2.8, I got the bokeh effect.
