I have been trying to get a picture of this spider for a while. Every time I tried to take a shot from a different position it would turn to face me. Taken in my backyard.

This bug is the first to emerge from its hibernation in my garden.

Der Matte Pillendreher ist ein 6,5 - 12 mm großer Käfer aus der Familie der Blatthornkäfer. Trotz ähnlicher Lebensweise gehört der Matte Pillendreher nicht zu den Mistkäfern.

Um diesen Käfer zu sehen, muss man viel Glück haben. Er lebt in Deutschland nur an wenigen besonders warmen Orten.

Die Käfer suchen Kot, hauptsächlich von Schafen, und formen daraus Pillen. Diese Kotpillen werden oft unter beträchtlichen Anstrengungen aber immer recht hektisch transportiert und dann in der Erde vergraben. Die Pillen können zum Verzehr gefertigt werden (Futterpillen) oder sie sind als Nahrung für die Nachkommen gedacht und heißen dann Brutpillen.

Für mich war es ein Erstfund, deshalb habe ich mich sehr darüber gefreut 😊😊😊
