Fondly called Santa Claus #flower the poinsettia adorns #Christmas festivities

Strikingly resembling a bunch of #flowers the poinsettias are actually a #foliage of bright-colored #leaves that can spruce up any #garden or #floral displays

This Mexican shrub or a small #tree was named after Joel Roberts Poinsett the first United States minister to Mexico who introduced it to US & the world

It is not easy taking a digital picture down the tube of a dark kaleidoscope, but I was pleased with the designs I was able to capture. Even better then were the designs I was able to create with Silicon Mirror, a nice and inexpensive software tool from www.torpor.com. I had so much fun with the software that I purchased it even before my free trial ran out.

Mints are propagating well this year in New England. Great for drinks):

There is a bee hive nearby and they love the flowers in early summer. This picture was taken with an htc phone camera because I like its color rendering. Image acquisition was a challenge in the bright sunlight. But the brightness enabled good resolution in this near macro capture. I took about half a dozen to yield this one.

This graceful little plant is a member of the lily family. You need myopic eyesight to spot it... it's tiny and easily can be overlooked. It's difficult to appreciate the graceful geometry and lovely hues of this beauty until the image is considerably enlarged. (This image is a faux macro captured with the versatile Canon 100/400 lens.)

Best viewed full screen. Looks far better on a PC/Laptop monitor.

Summer is a great time for macro captures it's a pity the subjects move so fast

Macro capture of one of our Salvia flowers.

This colourful fella, Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila elpenor) was in my garden resting on a conifer.

The English name of this moth is derived from the caterpillar's fanciful resemblance to an elephant's trunk.

The adults are attractively coloured pink and green affairs, with a streamlined appearance. They fly from May to July, visiting flowers such as honeysuckle (Lonicera) for nectar.

The larvae feed mainly on rosebay willowherb (Epilobium angustifolium), but also other plants as well, including bedstraw (Galium).

It is a common species in most of Britain, including Scotland, where it has increased its range in recent years.

Best viewed full screen on a PC or cast to TV.

One of fifty-one new designs I captured from inside one of my real kaleidoscope. This particular scope uses light from the side which reflects through colored glass into pieces of glass and jewels floating in oil. It also has a black bottom and black sides so the light actually illuminates the inside items like neon. Also, in this capture, I set the kaleidoscope on a red surface so the light it picked up would have a reddish tint to it.
