Oh man am I going to have some fun with the Olympus STF-8 Macro Flash that just arrived today!!

This is the result of a quick test with that flash using my Olympus OM-D E-M1ii with the M.Zuiko 60mm f2.8 macro lens and a couple extension tubes.

It was photographed hand-held at 1/250s at f5.6 at ISO 200 with the flash in TTL mode. I processed the RAW file using the new Exposure X5 software I am testing that was just released. I had to crop in a bit on this image, then used ON1’s Resize to enlarge it 2x in size, then used AI Clear in Topaz DeNoise AI to bring out a bit more detail.

Tomorrow I must go back with my macro setup. GF1 + 20/1.7 is not the best combo for macro captures. :)

A curled up female firefly (Lamprigera sp.) on a fern. These large fireflies are flightless, and a pair of bulbs on its abdomen emit a vibrant glow under darkness.

Shot in Sarawak, Borneo.

Not sure what kinda wasp this is, it was about an inch in length with sizable wings too.

No Group Awards/Banners, thanks

Today I uploaded 4 experimental captures that I made with my newest camera accessory: the Tube extension for my Nikon D5200 lenses.

With this, I can shoot awesome macro captures from a very close focus distance!

Until now, I captured the macro photos only with my lovely iPhone, because the small cameras has an awesome close focus distance, but with this new accessory I can make captures from a much more closely distance and in a resolution of 24.1mpx!

These are just experimental captures, stay tuned for more.

Hope you enjoy!

I was playing with Katie in the garden tonight and spotted this little fella lurking. Ugh! I'm trying to act normal here because spiders turn me into a big girls blouse and I generally leap for the nearest chair. lol

Actually, this little spider was indeed tiny (otherwise I'd have not bothered photographing it!). I would say a touch over half a centimeter?

Anyhow, after putting on my brave head, I crept up to it and tried (about 50 times) to get the thing in focus. But it was too small for my camera and I couldn't get the macro capture, no matter what settings I used!

Eventually, after (too) many shots, I got it! Only two came out and this is the better one imho. I guess a decent DSLR with a macro lens wouldn't suffer like this? But, that's something a compact owner like me can only dream off (after ..1..2..3.. awwwww)

I love taking photos of rain droplets on little moss plants, or other tiny plants. You never know what the camera will reflect and magnify, and I do enjoy opening the pictures in the computer to see what's there. Often the detail has been so tiny, I've been unable to see it with my eyes.

Here is something a little bit different - wacha think?

These are some Hollyhock flower buds photographed backlit in the late evening sun with my Olympus OM-D E-M1X camera using the M.Zuiko 300mm f4 Pro lens in my backyard here in Bozeman, Montana.

Exposing just for the brightest highlights, it was easy to get my background dark, which happened to be my fence in the shade.

This is a focus stack of 4 images. My camera was mounted onto my Benro tripod with settings of ISO 200 at 1/500s at f/11. I processed the RAW photos in Lightroom, then I sent the photos to Photoshop where I did the focus stacking. While in Photoshop I used BW Artisan Pro X for the b&w conversion, then I used the Luminar Flex plugin to bring back some warmth to the highlights.
