Frosty morning here in Maryland that has given way to a lovely day in the mid 60's F for temperatures today ... certainly giving Spring Fever after have some of the coldest weather in many years.
It was cold laying there on the ground taking some macro captures of the treasure that could be found out in the rough ;)
Recently visited Oldmoor Wood, Nottinghamshire. Oldmoor Wood is a woodland in Nottinghamshire, near the village of Strelley. It covers a total area of 15.11 hectares. It is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust.
I went primarily for the beautiful Bluebells. There is a mix of Native and Spanish Bluebells.
Native Bluebells are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.
How to tell the difference.
English Bluebells: Flowers on one side of the stem.
Spanish Bluebells: Flowers all around the stem.

Another new camera that I treated myself to and it cost less than a tenner !!
It measures just 2 centimetres at it's widest or less than an inch if you want it in English . It lives on a ring attached to the case for the G1 X , but for this afternoon it came off for a macro capture as my one shot a day .
From my garden, Ferns to Flickr. They are steadily unfolding and now's the perfect time to get some macro shots.

Dandelions. Very common weed that adorns urban areas, gardens, fields and just about anywhere. Whatever you think of it, its various stages of transition are magical from a photographic perspective.
Dandelions may be considered a nuisance in parts of the garden, especially in weed-free lawns but have many herbal uses and are a good early source of nectar and pollen for insects so worth tolerating where possible.
Taraxacum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as Dandelions.

Don't ask me how long I've had these little things in the fridge. It's probably 2 or 3 years. We don't usually enjoy garlic, however for a while I was subscribing to a meal kit delivery service and they included garlic in the kits. I ended up with quite a bit of it, however these few are the last ones left - I wonder if I ever will use them?
I, Macro captured this evening, Bangkok time:)
No edit.
Love Quote of the Day
We must be our own before we can be another's.
Ralph Waldo Emerson mentioned and I definitely nodded:)

This capture was taken on the bottom board of the hive. The yellow stuff is pollen and the white stuff is wax. This mite is the worst enemy of the honey bee and it is the first time I have seen one in my hives. They are there in the hive and on the bees, but they are so tiny it is difficult to see them. Super macro capture is what you are seeing here. If you have bees, you have varroa mites; they are just terrible things in the bee world and if not treated can wipe out a hive.
This is a very close up macro capture.. of one tiny 'Bird's-eye Primrose' 'Primula farinosa'..
Thank you my dear friends.. for all your comments over the last week.. most appreciated..
I know that having an insect on a flower is typical macro capture in Flickr, but I do not have such typical subject on my upload. So...here it is!
This one was taken around my office area with the bee(?) on top of my tiny favourite wild flower.

This macro captures the intricate cross-section of a Cleoniceras ammonite, illuminated to reveal the warm, glowing details of its inner chambers. Measuring 2.5 cm in height and 3 cm in width, the ammonite's delicate proportions are emphasized, showing its fossilized structure. Only the lower part of the fossil could be backlit, creating a striking contrast and emphasizing its natural geometry.
The photo was created using an HDR technique composed of two stacked images, each consisting of 40 individual exposures. To achieve this level of detail and balance, the first stack was captured with a shutter speed of two seconds, aperture of f/4.5, and ISO 100. The second stack used a slightly slower shutter speed of 1/6 seconds while maintaining the same aperture and ISO settings.
I spent a good twenty minutes with this pretty butterfly this past August. It was resting on the large leaves of a Hosta plant, allowing me to fire off many handheld shots.
I really should invest in a quality flash set up for my macro captures, but I have only used natural light for the past 12 years and have developed good techniques along the way. It does make it quite challenging since the lower light levels require low shutter speeds, causing many blurred images.
Still, among the many images I capture for each subject, I usually am rewarded with a few that turn out focused and sharp :)
Cabbage Whites eat the leaves of cabbage family of plants in their caterpillar stage, hence their name. They can decimate crops so are considered a pest in the agriculture context.
They only five days to three weeks in their butterfly form, and their color turns from pale white to soft yellow as they age. So it looks like the individual above is close to the end of its life.

For several years now, we've planted dill as one of our back deck, potted herbs - but we never seem to get to eat any, and we're ok with that. Why? Because we discovered the dill, in turn, grows a crop of Black Swallowtail caterpillars!
As beautiful as this guy is, he will be even prettier when he turns into a butterfly. This guy is about 1" (2.5cm) long.
Handheld macro capture - it was kind of windy, so with the shallow Depth of Field, I needed to take a bunch of captures to get this one. High res, so zoom on in!

I loved experimenting on this rainy morning. This micro lens using manual focus can get quite close to create tiny macro captures under the cyclamen forest.
Still not sure where I’m headed with these nearsighted closeups. We shall see...
Thanks for looking!
