Die BlauflĂŒgel-Prachtlibelle (Calopteryx virgo) ist eine auffĂ€llige und farbenprĂ€chtige Libellenart aus der Familie der Prachtlibellen. Das Weibchen unterscheidet sich vom MĂ€nnchen durch seine bronzefarbenen, leicht grĂŒnlich schimmernden FlĂŒgel, wĂ€hrend die FlĂŒgel des MĂ€nnchens blĂ€ulich gefĂ€rbt sind. Die Körperfarbe des Weibchens ist metallisch grĂŒn bis kupfern.
Diese Art kommt vor allem in Europa und Teilen Asiens vor. Sie bevorzugt klare, saubere und sauerstoffreiche BĂ€che und FlĂŒsse mit dichter Ufervegetation. Man findet sie hĂ€ufig in Waldgebieten oder entlang naturnaher FlieĂgewĂ€sser mit langsamer Strömung.
Die Lebensweise der BlauflĂŒgel-Prachtlibelle ist eng mit dem Wasser verbunden, da die Larven im GewĂ€sser heranwachsen. Die adulten Tiere sind im Sommer zu beobachten, wo sie oft auf BlĂ€ttern nahe dem Wasser sitzen oder patrouillierend entlang des Ufers fliegen.
Die GefĂ€hrdung der Art ist stark von der WasserqualitĂ€t abhĂ€ngig. GewĂ€sserverschmutzung, Verbauung von Ufern und Zerstörung natĂŒrlicher LebensrĂ€ume stellen Bedrohungen dar. Dank der verbesserten WasserqualitĂ€t in vielen Regionen gilt sie jedoch aktuell als nicht gefĂ€hrdet.

Yes you could make your own interesting subjects and photograph them in your bedroom, kitchen or bathroom and they could be world class. Many world class macro photographs are taken this way. For example don komarechka takes most of his extraordinary droplet photos from his kitchen. So we shouldn't let immobility our limitation. We could always find something everywhere

The Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura elegans) is among the most adaptable damselfly species in Europe. The Azure Damselfly (Coenagrion puella) is one of the most common damselflies in Europe. Its vivid blue coloration and the horseshoe-shaped marking on the second abdominal segment make it easy to identify. It inhabits calm, vegetation-rich waters and can be seen from May to August.

Spotted this little guy on our hose pipe stand.
He was tiny, smaller than a pea but with a macro lens he suddenly becomes more than just a tiny jumping spider. He has eyes, and hairs and all this detail you wouldn't normally be able to see! đ

We have been shooting an interesting subject that you can try at home - Dish soap bubbles - So we thought we would share a little how-to to get the creative juices flowing!

We have been experimenting with dish soap bubbles since the early days of the Adaptalux Studio (one of the first shots Sam ever took with the early prototypes). They make for some very cool shots with the correct lighting.
The space-like shots are achieved by shining light through a bottle of dish soap or hand soap. This is really easy to set up and have a go at in your own kitchen!
Shaking the bottle creates little bubbles in the viscous fluid and lighting them from behind or the side can show some amazing colours. The colour can get even more interesting when the fluid is colourless and coloured lights are introduced instead.
This shot was captured using a reversed 24mm lens with and extension tube. It's very close and can be difficult to focus with this set up, but you can get equally amazing shots with less magnification too. Here we used an amber light from the back, and a blue light from the side to create some separation between the bubbles in the foreground and the rest of the solution in the background.
