Pine cones are a quick and easy subject to shoot at home, so we thought we would take a look at how to get some cool and creative shots from a couple of pine cones in our latest tutorial video.

A lot of you may have seen the pine cone shot on our homepage, it's one of our favourite shots to demonstrate what the Adaptalux Studio can do. We used the same pine cone (and a new one) to get a few more interesting shots.
A shot like this is achieved by pointing two coloured Lighting Arms across each other, shining onto the pine cone. You can see more about the setup in the video or the blog post here - bit.ly/adaptaluxpines
The coloured lights shine off the spines of the pine cones really well. Depending on the angle of the camera and the lights, they can create some amazing highlights along the ridges of each spine and shadows deep in the pine cone where the light can't reach.
For this shot, we used an amber and blue Lighting Arm with a Diffuser to create a soft light in the front, with a harsh, almost fire-like glow coming from behind. Shooting along the length of the pine cone like this forces the background out of focus and makes the shot look even more surreal.

Die Südliche Binsenjungfer (Lestes barbarus) ist eine schlanke Libelle mit einer Länge von 40–45 mm und durchsichtigen Flügeln. Ihr Körper schimmert metallisch grün oder kupferfarben, und sie hat breite, helle Streifen. Auffällig ist ihr zweifarbiges Flügelmal, das innen hellbraun und außen weißlich ist. Sie lebt an kleinen, sonnigen Gewässern mit viel Pflanzen und fliegt von Juni bis September. Die Eier überwintern, und die Larven entwickeln sich in 2–3 Monaten zur Libelle.
The Southern Emerald Damselfly (Lestes barbarus) is a slender damselfly, 40–45 mm long, with transparent wings. Its body shines metallic green or copper, with broad, light stripes. A distinctive feature is its bicolored wing spot, brown on the inside and whitish on the outside. It lives near small, sunny water bodies with dense vegetation and is active from June to September. The eggs overwinter, and the larvae develop into damselflies within 2–3 months.

Die Blauflügel-Prachtlibelle (Calopteryx virgo) ist eine auffällige und farbenprächtige Libellenart aus der Familie der Prachtlibellen. Das Weibchen unterscheidet sich vom Männchen durch seine bronzefarbenen, leicht grünlich schimmernden Flügel, während die Flügel des Männchens bläulich gefärbt sind. Die Körperfarbe des Weibchens ist metallisch grün bis kupfern.
Diese Art kommt vor allem in Europa und Teilen Asiens vor. Sie bevorzugt klare, saubere und sauerstoffreiche Bäche und Flüsse mit dichter Ufervegetation. Man findet sie häufig in Waldgebieten oder entlang naturnaher Fließgewässer mit langsamer Strömung.
Die Lebensweise der Blauflügel-Prachtlibelle ist eng mit dem Wasser verbunden, da die Larven im Gewässer heranwachsen. Die adulten Tiere sind im Sommer zu beobachten, wo sie oft auf Blättern nahe dem Wasser sitzen oder patrouillierend entlang des Ufers fliegen.
Die Gefährdung der Art ist stark von der Wasserqualität abhängig. Gewässerverschmutzung, Verbauung von Ufern und Zerstörung natürlicher Lebensräume stellen Bedrohungen dar. Dank der verbesserten Wasserqualität in vielen Regionen gilt sie jedoch aktuell als nicht gefährdet.

For these shots had to try for three days. But I think it worth it. These ants were thirsty. And these are plain water. But You can use sugar water.

Your subjects are around you may be they are on the roof of your house or at the backyard or maybe inside your head. Yes you could make your own interesting subjects and photograph them in your bedroom, kitchen or bathroom and they could be world class. Many world class macro photographs are taken this way. For example don komarechka takes most of his extraordinary droplet photos from his kitchen. So we shouldn't let immobility our limitation. We could always find something everywhere

The Azure Damselfly (Coenagrion puella) is one of the most common damselflies in Europe. Its vivid blue coloration and the horseshoe-shaped marking on the second abdominal segment make it easy to identify. It inhabits calm, vegetation-rich waters and can be seen from May to August.

Spotted this little guy on our hose pipe stand.
He was tiny, smaller than a pea but with a macro lens he suddenly becomes more than just a tiny jumping spider. He has eyes, and hairs and all this detail you wouldn't normally be able to see! 💜
