Mac mini 2010 now installed in my living room. Love the simplicity of the product. Plus Rowmote makes it keyboard and mouse free!

Macmini installed in the G35's navi cubby. Uses a DigitalWheelz Din Converter from MP3Car.com. G35 was secured in the DIN converter using #6-32x3/8" standoffs on both sides.

The modified CarNetix CNX-P1900 PSU is mounted on the right side.

The left side is reserved for the USB2.0 hub.

All of this will be polished off with a custom cnced front panel when I get a chance.

Here's where I spend my working day.

It may seem weird to take this shot outside of the house, but usually my MacMini is piled high with crap!

P.S.: The verdict was that my 2-Gig computer didn't have enough memory to run both Mountain Lion and the new Adobe package.

Trying to get a Kiosk running in Mac OS X has been a challenge... then we decided we wanted it in portrait format. Tried the undocumented Tiger screen-rotation feature on my Powerbook - didn't work, maybe because I don't have an external display, maybe because the OS is too up-to-date. Updated the work MacMini to an old version of Tiger, though, and the option appears - launch System Preferences and hold down the alt (option) key when you click on 'Displays' and you get an extra button - rotate.

I can't help thinking it shouldn't be this hard. Plus if I get new MacMinis, the trick might not work if the OS is more recent. Still, in Windows you need to buy PivotPro or get the right video card driver.

And of course the version of Applescript bundled with Tiger seems to make apps that give a warning dialogue box when you make calls to the command line, which sucks if you want to use one to run at start-up to launch Opera in kiosk mode (something that you can only do from the command line).

The display is slightly fuzzier than it was - I guess there are some strange Quartz issues here? But at the large font sizes we'll be using, this isn't an issue.

Note to self: this Mac Mini is running OS 10.4.0 build 8A428. The graphics card is an ATI Radeon 9200. The display is an Acer AL2671W being driven on its DVI input.

I was experimenting with an old external flash gun - it seems to produce better results than the built-in one.

This is a photo that I took a few weeks ago called "Into The Lake. It was taken in Yueyang, China.

Another view of the HT with a "DVD" playing a Diana Krall concert DVD off of one of the LaCie hard drives. Again, I will install the electronics (perhaps I should say "computer) in a cabinet soon.

See this other photo for notes about the setup.

Perhaps a bit boring, however I am both happy and sad at the same time. I received my new Mac Mini on the same morning as I received my copy of GTA IV, while this is very good news there is a problem. I am having to split my time between the two rather than having a good few solid days of gaming on GTA, before my mini arrived which I thought would be later on during the week.

The Challenge: Take one self portrait each day for a year.

Each day, take a self portrait, tag it with "365days", and submit it to the pool. It's that simple!
