A pink sunset over the pink rocks of Cala del Bue Marino, Macari.
We choosed this place almost by chance, mainly aiming at avoiding the crowd of the not far beach of San Vito Lo Capo, the most looked for in Italy, according to Tripadvisor.
The beauty of this coast has been a true surprise to me (but also the rest of Sicily has, btw, being the first time here for me) and only after my arrive I uncovered this place ranked first among the most beautiful coasts in Italy in 2015, according to the ranking draught annually by Legambiente.
High on the cliffs you can spot the shape of a sighting tower built in the XVIth century. It was part of a vast net of similar towers, scattered across all the sicilian coasts ( but they were very frequent all over the european coasts of the Mediterranean Sea).
From each tower it was possible to see and to communicate with (signals, fire, smoke) the nearby ones on both sides. They were intended as a surveillance extensive means to prevent incursions by Saracens and Corsars.
A aldeia é muito isolada e sem traços de modernidade: não é acessível de carro, e a aldeia mais próxima, Regoufe, fica a 4 quilómetros (pelo monte). Não tem electricidade, água canalizada, saneamento, gás, correio, telefone e a rede de telemóvel é escassa.
Em 1527 havia registo de 8 pessoas, no Sec XVIII Francisco Martins e Maria Martins constroem um casal em Drave, em 1851 a capela de Nossa Senhora da Saúde é mandada edificar por Manuel Martins da Costa, em 1993 instalação de linha telefónica e de energia solar, no Ano de 2000 Joaquim Martins, o último habitante, deixa a aldeia.

Yesterday I fulfilled the desire to know the fantastic and last of the Schist Villages ... Drave. It is an uninhabited village, in a pit between the Serras da Freita, São Macário and Arada. But what distinguishes it from all the others, is the difficult and walking access.
Records: In 1527 there were 8 people registered, in the 18th century Francisco Martins and Maria Martins build a couple in Drave, in 1851 the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Saúde is built by Manuel Martins da Costa, in 1993 installation of a telephone line and In 2000, Joaquim Martins, the last inhabitant, left the village.
