Aldeia da Pena, com as casas em xisto, situa-se na Serra de São Macário, ao fundo de um vale profundo...
Na serra de S.Macário encontramos estes afloramentos rochosos que em conjunto com a vegetação rasteira ( urze e carqueja) e de cor variada, tornam a paisagem única.

Em S.Pedro do Sul, na freguesia de Covas do Rio, encontra-se esta aldeia tÃpica de xisto e ardósia.
Aninhada num vale profundo da serra de São Macário, é uma aldeia muito bela e só para destemidos pois a estrada que permite chegar até lá é Ãngreme e nela só passa um carro de cada vez, apesar de ter dois sentidos.
É uma zona agreste, dominada pela sombra pois o sol chega ao casario apenas algumas horas por dia. Apesar desta situação não deixa de ter uma beleza Ãmpar.

Here are the mechanics taking a long hard look into the engine bay of the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competition prior to the Kinrara Trophy race that took place on the Friday evening of this years Goodwood Revival.
Joe Macari and Tom Kristensen won the Kinrara Trophy race in this car, 54 years after the car won the Tour de France.

Captured at 20:22 CEST on 21 June 2026, this panorama records a remarkable astronomical alignment over the Gulf of Macari. The Sun is seen approaching the western horizon just minutes before sunset, while the Moon shines high in the evening sky, only a short time before reaching its exact First Quarter phase later that night.
Near the summer solstice, the Sun follows its northernmost path across the sky, producing one of the longest days of the year in Sicily. The soft pastel glow along the horizon contrasts beautifully with the deepening twilight above, while the Moon — illuminated almost exactly at 50% — already dominates the sky as daylight fades. This rare coexistence of the setting Sun and a nearly first-quarter Moon creates a natural balance between day and night, perfectly framed by the silhouette of Monte Cofano and the calm waters of the Mediterranean.
O que fazer: Subir até Arouca e subir mais até á serra de Alvarenga, descer até Porto Antigo mesmo junto ao Douro, ladear o Rio até Resende e subir até ao ponto mais alto da Serra até Lamego e ver de lá ao longe a Régua e a Serra do Marão, entrar na Serra de Montemuro e Sair em Castro Daire, contornar a Serra de São Macário e sair em Sul e até São Pedro do Sul, fazer a estrada junto ao Rio Vouga até Macinhata e Sernada .... e já se esta quase em casa. Esta já ninguém ma tira!

Aldeia da Pena
A aldeia de Pena fica a 325 Km de Lisboa e a 20 de São Pedro do Sul (Viseu). Para se chegar a Pena, uma aldeia tÃpica de xisto com seis habitantes e 10 casas de habitação, situada num vale profundo da Serra de São Macário, é essencial passar por São Pedro do Sul, pela IP5.
Aninhada no fundo do vale, a aldeia confunde-se com a Natureza que a envolve num cenário de sonho. Junto a uma ribeira de água cristalina, à entrada da aldeia, fica a Adega TÃpica Pena, também ela toda de xisto, de resto, aliás, como toda a povoação. Até o tampo das mesas é de xisto. Os carros não entram na aldeia. É proibido.
A aldeia enquadra-se num cenário natural de rara beleza. Estende-se por um viso que vai morrer à ribeira da Pena, a cerca de 600 metros de altitude. As suas águas são cristalinas, embora bastante frias dada a sua proximidade da nascente e do facto de correr sobre terrenos rochosos.
Esta ribeira dá muita vida à aldeia, pois é a partir dela que os campos são regados. O seu caudal nunca seca, sendo por isso aproveitado, nos meses mais quentes do ano, pelos habitantes locais e por alguns visitantes, para banhos.
Pena será lugar natural para os amantes da Natureza e da Montanha.e uma uma das mais belas aldeias de xisto portuguesas.

"Só quem conhece o Monte de S.Macário, o Vale do Rio Paiva e a Serra de Montemuro, poderá compreender a paixão por esta terra recôndita de gentes simples que recebem a todos de braços abertos.
Quando entramos na aldeia deparamo-nos com uma paisagem encantadora de vales risonhos entre colinas de curvas brandas, serras verdejantes, as quais todos os anos são visitadas por flocos de neve que transformam a paisagem num imenso manto branco que se confunde com as névoas, fazem parte desta paisagem os castanheiros, os carvalhos e as cerdeiras muito perto daquele ar puro que nos fortalece o corpo e o espÃrito.
Esta beleza natural aprecia-se ainda na solidão dos penhascos que têm por tapete o vale das margens do rio paiva que, serpenteia, cristalino e puro, rumo ao rio Douro.
Ali ao longo daquelas serras, são-nos oferecidos cenários únicos pela Mãe Natureza que desfila vaidosa e deslumbrante perante os nossos olhos. Naquelas serras temos que seguir por caminhos e trilhos para entendermos e nos encantarmos com todas as cores, cheiros e frescura com que nos deparamos"

Today I am sad because this week-end will basically be my last summer week-end (even though temperatures here in Sicily are supposed to stay well above 30C for a few weeks more...).
September in fact is going to be super busy with my final PhD viva the 9th and a few project and manuscripts to finish before the end of the month. Summer is already a blurred hazy memory for me......
At least I hope that you, my friends, will still have lots of nice summer moments, taking photos and just enjoying yourselves.
