My old 1.83 GHz Core Duo MacBook Pro. Going off to the hallowed halls of eBay. She ran well, and did a lot. Now she'll do more for someone else.

Strobist info: Nikon SB-24 slaved off camera right bounced off the ceiling. Pretty simple setup.

Day 270 of 365 (Year Two)

Just a little fun with photoshop, me and the moon tonight. Nothing special behind this one, just a quick and easy photo edit that I felt like doing. It was more about figuring out how to light it than anything else, but I had a head start based on another shot I saw last year sometime that was similar to this. I just wish I could find it. Oh well.

Thanks to I found the shot that inspired this one. It is this one by MacAddict.

In with the new, out with the old

Just finished installing the new shelves in “the library”. And by “shelves” I mean four birch finish Billy bookcases from Ikea, lightly modified with custom fasteners. And by “library” I mean what used to be a spare bedroom filled with spare furniture, disused pillows, and clothing headed for Goodwill.

And yes, those two shelves are indeed filled with every single issue of Wired magazine … (including alternate covers).

Thanks to Cilest, whose "Bowling with Ghosts" reminded of this shot I had already given up on :-)

Also thanks to macaddict for his super simple yet efficient LAB tutorial.

The blue hue is authentic! Original here.

Taken at the MBK Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

This photo was taken specifically for Naz’s The Items We Carry group. Although I tote a crapload of other items around in my manbag, these are the basic essentials that follow me wherever I go.

No watch.

No phone.

No change.

My second day in a row with no ideas for 365. So I decided I would try a shot like this one from Dave...aka Macaddict. Only mine didn't come out anywhere as cool as his.

I did 6 or 7 takes and this was the best one. Sad I know. I coulda kept trying but I didn't want to break our bed. :D That and after the second or third take Jane, who was in the next room and heard all the noise I was making, began asking me what the heck I was doing. Didn't want her to walk in on me while I was shooting this. She woulda given me grief.

I tried Facebook Places this morning and it's not available in Canada yet. This is a new service that Facebook launched. It allows users to check-in and share their location with friends and friends can also tag/check you in with their check-ins. For example, if I'm at Trinity Bellwoods Park with some friends my check-in would say, 'Ashton is at Trinity Bellwoods Park with so and so' That check-in will be shown on their wall as well as my own. One of my friends thinks it's just another way to stalk people.

Priceless.

I think this is the first time I'm sharing with you all my "Nest". Today I just bought a new Hard Disk 1TB Western Digital, I've three Lacie Hard Disk and the Orange One is Lacie Rugged Hard Disk 250GB. I need more storage actually since I like to shoot RAW + JPEG.

I guess and you guys probably agree with me, no hard drive will last forever and I will constantly back up all my precious data to DVD and moving files from old hard disk to the newest one. It is costly to keep a "Memory" these days, I know that the price of Hard Disk keep falling but at the same time our files getting bigger with latest camera.

This is my previous 12" Powerbook. I dropped him down the stairs at my old house, almost two years ago now. He'd already been knocked off of a desk by a classmate and fallen down some carpeted steps when the handle on a carrier broke. But the final straw was when I walked up the steps with the Powerbook in one hand and the power cord, still attached, in the other. The cord caught on the banister and pulled the laptop out of my hands, and he tumbled down the wooden steps. If only I'd had MagSafe back then...

But that's not the end of our story, dear caption reader. No, as you may be able to tell here, the Powerbook continued to function, albeit with a busted screen. For a time I used it in conjunction with an external monitor. Then I got my current laptop, Vassily, which is pretty much identical to this one except a little faster. Later I sold the old Powerbook to my roomate Jay, who used it for a while with a monitor, until he tripped over one of the wires and destroyed it utterly. Rest in pieces, little fella.

UPDATE 9/18/14

Crazy that TUAW (a blog I read religiously, btw) has catapulted this photo and PowerBook into internet fame. This photo looks so dated now that I look back on it, so many pieces of 10+ year old electronic gear. BTW, that open magazine is almost definitely a copy of MacAddict.

Yesterday I received emails from my sister with photos attached:

"Notice pictures of my new line of clothes for dogs which are being sold in Rebecca's Pet Spa in Newnan and on Ebay. I designed and handmade all of them. Each is different. The dog modeling the Christmas bandana is one of Rebecca's personal dogs. Enjoy. Paulette"

Also, thanks go to macaddict www.flickr.com/photos/d200shooter/ for directing me to Picnik. I enhanced the photo here. www.picnik.com/

So this is the story: South Korea and North Korea each had flag poles. South Korea built a larger one 100 m tall. North Korea responded with this massive pole 160 m tall and a 31 m flag weighing 600 lbs dry! It's the largest flag in the world according to the tour guide. Compare what you can see of the flag with the 3 story buildings on the ground...it is massive!

The surrounding village is known as propaganda village because it broadcasts messages stating that Kim Jung Il is the best leader in the world, etc.

The 'village' is not really a village at all. The buildings are empty shells and the windows do not even have glass. Caretakers turn on and off lights to make it seem like people are there.

I found a better picture by macaddict on the Korean Images group.

This is macaddict's original photo that I manipulated in Photoshop using the lomo technique from this discussion and timsperez's tutorial. I then submitted this photo to the group Pimpshop®: The Finished Product.

We cleaned out the office, and I had to snap a pic of some of these old CDs before I chucked them. I've got Mac Addict #1 and #2 there.

This is Dr. Rob Lam, friend and fellow Flickr member (here). We're at other friend and Flickr member, Todd Messenger's (here) house.

Before you read all the rest... I have changed the title of this photo as it is an imitation ... not an original, read on to see where the photo idea came from.

I have been meaning to try a tutorial offered by a FABULOUS photographer & photo-editor I have come familiar with here in Flickr, Macaddict to do a photo similar to his impressive "The Hand". Today I did try it... I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended - trial edition to accomplish this, sure, I may have been able to pull it off in my PSP8, but I have tried this program as my son pointed out to me I could try it for free. Hmm... what happens after a one month trial of a $1000 photo editing program? Will it be something I come to 'need' or will I be able to carry on as though I've never tried it?

Currently I actually have a collection of 4 programs already that I use: Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 (my MAIN program), Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album (I seldom do anything in this one), Microsoft Picture It Publish Gold 2001 (occasionally used as it has some fun effects), and Picasa2 (Googles free program that I use to supplement PSP 8 on a semi-regular basis)

Now... back to the photo... I think it is a very cool effect, I do, however, like the original (that'd be the one by Macaddict) better than mine!
