New in 2004, my dual 1.8 Ghz Power Macintosh G5. This tower replaced a venerable dual 533 mhz G4 tower that had reached the end of it's usability in the world of Logic and Final Cut Pro.

I started the 1990's with a Mac 128k which seemed at the time to be eons ahead of everyone else's 286's, upgraded to a IIsi (not much of an upgrade), re-upgraded to a Quadra 840AV (Apple's first full-function audio/video box), then to a 6100 PowerMac (oops), an 8500AV, and finally PowerMac B&W G3/400. I probably miss the Quadra and the G3 most.

I moved to PC's as my main desktop system in 2001, and immeditaly began using a Dell Optiplex GX150 1ghz PIII religiously. The Optiplex GX150/240/260/280 is probably the best "Mac user's PC" because of it's no-tools entry (opens liek a suitcase, easy like a G4) and it's extreme durability. This system was Dell's first offering in a brand new desktop lineup, the style of which is still evident in their 2006 product list. The easy-open case, however, is slowly moving off the market as Dell goes back to crappy, assembly-line ATX PC's in silly slide-off door cases.

I evenetually got sick of spyware, viruses, dead motherboards, and cheap components, and moved back to Mac in 2004. To anyone who insults the MacOS- that's fine, but one day, you'll come home and need to get work done ASAP, boot up your computer, and have that *one last crash*, or *one last virus*, or you'll realize you're sucbonciously bracing yourself for that event even if it doesn't happen- and that's why people use MacOS. This of course does not apply to hardware junkies, gamers, and geeks, who are re-osing and pulling apart their stuff every other week anyway.

The G5 runs significatly better than even a dual 1.25 G4, although it does tend to rev it's case fans like a Boeing 767 getting ready for a transatlantic flight. I find this is not a system that you just abuse and let run all day long like a G3, but it hasn't had a serious failure on my yet. I find I can record 20 simultaneous audio tracks with no lag at all ( I have 1.5 gigs of RAM). This is one of those towers that I think I'll keep using until it dies and applecare won't cover it.

My favorite tower computer of all time is tied with the Blue and White G3 Mac and the Black Dell Optiplex Gx150 PIII.

The inforescences are emerging on this non-identified Sansevieria species from Mount Maco. It looks like it will produce a spike-like raceme with large bracts on the peduncle. Also note the purple speckled and purple lined peduncle.

taking this picture was one of the most frustrating moments yet!

stood in my back garden hoping to capture the final moment the raindrop actually fell off, but Breagha got fed up and ran into my legs at the final moment.

The old railway in my town, Macomer, which vaguely reminded me of Chernobyl.

From the submission to UNESCO (it is on the tentative list to be included as a UNESCO site):

"Holqa Sof Omar: is one of the most spectacular and extensive underground caverns in the world: the Sof Omar cave system. Formed by the Weib/Weyib River as it changed its course in the distant past and carved a new channel through limestone foothills, the Sof Omar cave system is an extraordinary natural phenomenon of breathtaking beauty.

Here the Weib River vanishes into this giant underground world with its arched portals, high eroded ceilings, and deep, vaulted echoing chambers. These caves, now an important Islamic shrine named after the saintly Sheik Sof Omar Ahmed, who took refuge here many centuries ago (around early 11th century AD), have a religious history that predates the arrival of the Muslims in Bale.

The traditional belief of this part of Africa revolved around spirit worship and ghost cults in which the most powerful supernatural beings were believed to attach themselves to age-old trees, boulder and rocks, and inhabit caves which became places of veneration where prayers were offered up and sacrifices made."
