C’est un parcours singulier que celui de Mac Arnold, sa carrière ressemble au Who’sWho du Blues et du Rythm and Blues. Etudiant, il débute dans un petit orchestre où joue James Brown. Quelques années plus tard, on le retrouve dans un train pour Chicago. A 24 ans, il devient bassiste dans le band de Muddy Waters et musicien de studio pour une foultitude d’enregistrements mémorables.

Il participe au Live at The Café au Gogo de John Lee Hooker et à l’album Where it’s All d’Otis Spann.

Avec Muddy, Mac réalise son rêve en côtoyant Howlin Wolf, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Junior Wells, Big Joe Williams, Big Mama Thornton et aussi Eric Clapton, Mike Boofield et Elvin Bischop...

Au début des années 70, une tournée avec Muddy l’emmène dans les grands espaces californiens. Coup de foudre! Mac s’installe à Los Angeles où il forme Soul Invaders qui officie derrière les Temptations et BB King.

En 1980, il réintègre sa Caroline du Sud et s’offre un épisode agricole : il devient fermier. En 2004 : come back ! 24 ans après, il reforme les Plate Full O’ Blues et fait revivre le Blues Old School à la façon des légendes. Le vieux bourlingueur a repris la route et sillonne la planète pour notre plus grand plaisir.

Avec ses complices Dan Keylon, Chris Hightower, Michael Whitt et Jerry Brashier , il nous offre des vocaux poignants, une pointe de soul dans la voix, un accompagnement blues électrique, sans tricherie et sans fard, un son authentique.

Oui, de l’authentique Chicago avec une touche de Rockin’Blues.

Benson converted from the PC world today when we went out and bought the first Apple computer either of us has owned.

His PC, which we'd assembled a year and a half ago, was acting up. It kept shutting itself off at inopportune times. We checked the memory, reformatted his computer and re-installed Windows, and made sure the CPU wasn't overheating. Nothing seemed to help.

In our last attempt to get at the problem, we bought a new power supply. We swapped in a new one, turned on the power and... nothing. The fans turned on but that was it. We started disconnecting things from the motherboard one-by-one until finally we had the motherboard out of the case with just the video card and CPU in place... and still nothing. We tried with the old power supply and this configuration actually started up--meaning there must have been some problem with the new power supply.

By this point we were both frustrated. Since Benson was also wanting a laptop for school, we figured we'd kill two birds with one stone and get a laptop to replace his computer. He'd been thinking of getting a Mac for some time and, with only World of Warcraft really tying him to the Windows world (yay for browser-based everything nowadays) we went for it.

We stopped by Valley Fair today. It turns out they are remodeling their store, so they had a very small "temporary" location that was extraordinarily crowded with people, but fortunately it wasn't too hard to find someone to sell us what we wanted.

Now I'm a little bit jealous... I kind of want a new toy to play around with too.
