Leica M3 borns in the 1950s' Germany, marking the beginning of "M series" era which gradually consolidates Leica's position till now.

Different from Zeiss and Rollei, this German brand still in its business without shifting its major business nor get bankrupted. Although the German craftsmanship has been well-received and recognized, it would not be easy for a optics giant to stand its own position and deliver consistent branding to achieve distinctive differentiation in front of the fierce onslaughts from the Japanese company that offer convenient and friendly product at a much lower price.

According to its SN, it should be born in 1960, and actually it already aged 50. It is very lucky to find a single-stroke M3 in an affordable price with minty outlook. I hope it could stay healthy and stay with me as long as possible.

It is also my first Rangefinder. It would take times for me to get accustomed to its focusing mechanism, yet I know it would be a new valuable experience in photography, and as a means to recording the transiency of time and life.

Big fan of the looks of the new M3, just a shame it doesn't have the sound the previous one did.

I had the pleasure to ride in this car.. Just fantastic.. : D

The Leica M3 was introduced in 1954. It was a new starting point for Leitz, which until then had only produced screw-mount Leica cameras that were incremental improvements to its original Leica (Ur-Leica). Leica M cameras are still in production today. The M3 introduced several features to the Leica, among them the combination of viewfinder and rangefinder in one bright window, and a bayonet lens mount.

Early M3 cameras had two throw film advance (two wind movements of the film advance lever) and German shutter speed series (1/25, 1/50, 1/100, etc), which later changed to single throw film advance and international shutter speeds.

A morning on the M3 at Fleet today (05/07/2025) watching the comings and goings over a 4-hour period which netted me 212 coach movements. Nothing majorly exciting to lift the mood but a good crop nonetheless. There are an awful lot of white coaches out there!

Not a huge fan of the Stuart look, big or small, but I wanted a picture before I cannibalized it for Tiger and Stug parts.
