Here is the first image obtained using the new Planewave 17.5" scope installed at the TWoSE Observatory. The target is the Great Hercules Cluster or Messier 13. It is a 30x30sec image (total exposure 15 minutes). Each subframes was collected using an unmodified Canon XSi DSLR at prime focus. No autoguiding (the polar alignment of that scope is now within 1 arcmin of the Celestial North Pole). Alignment and stacking in DeepSkyStacker. Artificial flat subtraction, level and curve enhancements, colour saturation in Photoshop. Not bad! :-)

M13 is a Globular Cluster of some 300,000 stars that are on the outer part of our galaxy some 25,100 light years away. This is where a radio message was sent in 1974, hoping to communicate with intelligent life. We should hear back in about 50,162 years, assuming they answer right away.
Removed some of that red in PS created using the astro-modded Nikon. I think I prefer this to the previous upload.
