With an arch span of 550m Shanghai's Lupu Bridge (卢浦大桥) has been the longest steel arch bridge in the world until it was surpassed by the Chaotianmen Bridge.

Lupu Bridge spans the Huangpu River from the Luwan District to Pudong. It's located at the northern edge of the EXPO 2010 area and did provide a great overview over the EXPO. One may ascend the bridge for a fee, an observation platform is located at the top of the arch (卢浦大桥观光平台).

Info: Entrance on the north end of the bridge, at Luban Rd.. Just walk south from Luban Rd, metro station. Carrying tripods is prohibited, they must be left at the gate and at night it is mostly closed anyway.

Other steel arch bridges' arch span:

Chaotianmen Bridge, Chongqing 552m (the new no. 1)

New River Gorge Bridge, West Virginia, 521m

Bayonne Bridge, New Jersey, 510m

Sydney Harbour Bridge 503m

Una simpatica giovane rappresentante della razza canina.

When I was posting this I asked my pup if she knew what it was a photo of. Being very clever, and able to count, but not a great speller, she replied woof woof ;)

Have a great week everyone!

It is virtually impossible to describe the typical appearance of the wolf Canis lupus. Wolves of many large arctic islands and Greenland usually appear snow-white from a distance, but closer up often reveal grey, black, or reddish shades. Wolves of northern North America and Eurasia vary in colour. A single pack may contain animals that are black, shades of grey-brown, and white. Wolves in the heavily forested areas of eastern North America are more uniform in colour. They are often a grizzled grey-brown, similar to some German shepherd dogs.

Happy Weekend, dear friends!

Wolf / Wilk / Canis lupus

An old photo never uploaded, a wolf climbs up a rock wash in Denali National Park, Alaska. The wolves of Alaska are under constant attack by the Alaska Board of Game. The wolves of Denali used to be protected by a ten mile buffer zone that went around the Park's boundaries. A few years back, it was reduced to five miles, then it was taken away completely. Now any wolf that wanders just outside the boundary is legal to trap. There are trappers who purposely go after the Park's wolves.

It is the photographer's opinion that the wolves of Denali National Park belong to all Americans, not just Alaskans. To target these wolves is completely wrong.
