La villa de Bermeo es un municipio vizcaíno de la comarca de Busturialdea, en la comunidad autónoma del País Vasco, España. Se trata de una de las localidades más pobladas de la comarca de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai junto con Guernica y Luno, con 16 864 habitantes (INE, 2020).
Fundada en 1236, la villa ostentó el título de Cabeza de Vizcaya desde 1476 hasta 1602, siendo la principal población del Señorío de Vizcaya. Es por ello por lo que Bermeo gozó de ciertos privilegios y por lo que gozaba de mayor relevancia frente al resto de villas en las Juntas Generales de Vizcaya. A esto cabe añadirle las juras que los reyes realizaban en la iglesia de Santa Eufemia cada vez que visitaban la provincia.
Actualmente, se trata de una villa arraigada a la tradición marinera, ya que su economía se basa mayoritariamente en la pesca y en las conservas de pescado.
Posee además diferentes atractivos turísticos tales como la ermita de San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, la torre Ercilla (Museo del pescador), la Puerta de San Juan, el casco antiguo, la Atalaya y el manicomio y su acogedor puerto, entre otros.

Gernika-Lumo es un municipio de Vizcaya, en la comunidad autónoma del País Vasco, España, perteneciente a la comarca de Busturialdea y enmarcado en el área natural de Urdaibai. Tiene 17 016 habitantes (INE 2019), una extensión de 8,47 km² y una densidad de 1909 habitantes/km² y es una de las localidades más pobladas de la comarca junto con Bermeo.
El municipio de Guernica y Luno surge en el siglo XIX tras la unión administrativa de la anteiglesia de Luno y de la villa de Guernica, fundada a su vez en terrenos pertenecientes a Luno, aunque cada entidad conservó su derecho propio; la anteiglesia el derecho foral de la Tierra Llana de Vizcaya, y la villa el derecho común castellano.
Guernica y Luno alberga el lugar donde se reunían las Juntas Generales de Vizcaya, bajo el roble conocido como Árbol de Guernica, símbolo de las libertades de los vizcaínos y donde antiguamente, los señores de Vizcaya, tras recibir su título, venían a jurar el respeto del fuero de Vizcaya.
El 26 de abril de 1937, durante la Guerra Civil Española, la ciudad fue bombardeada por la Legión Cóndor, unidad aérea de la Luftwaffe al servicio de la causa franquista. Inspirado en estos hechos, Pablo Picasso pintó su obra Guernica presentada en la Exposición Internacional de París de 1937. En la Segunda Guerra Mundial, los voluntarios vascos que participaron en la Brigada Carnot de las Fuerzas Francesas del Interior tomaron el nombre de Batallón Guernica. 124 civiles fueron las víctimas del ataque alemán a una población indefensa y sin instalaciones militares.
Gernika-Lumo is a municipality in Vizcaya, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, Spain, belonging to the Busturialdea region and framed in the natural area of Urdaibai. It has 17,016 inhabitants (INE 2019), an area of 8.47 km² and a density of 1,909 inhabitants/km² and is one of the most populated towns in the region together with Bermeo.

A esto cabe añadirle las juras que los reyes realizaban en la iglesia de Santa Eufemia cada vez que visitaban la provincia.
Actualmente, se trata de una villa arraigada a la tradición marinera, ya que su economía se basa mayoritariamente en la pesca y en las conservas de pescado.
Posee además diferentes atractivos turísticos tales como la ermita de San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, la torre Ercilla (Museo del pescador), la Puerta de San Juan, el casco antiguo, la Atalaya y el manicomio y su acogedor puerto, entre otros.

In World War II, the Basque volunteers who participated in the Carnot Brigade of the French Forces of the Interior took the name of Guernica Battalion. 124 civilians were the victims of the German attack on a defenseless population without military installations.

La villa de Bermeo es un municipio vizcaíno de la comarca de Busturialdea, en la comunidad autónoma del País Vasco, España. Se trata de una de las localidades más pobladas de la comarca de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai junto con Guernica y Luno, con 16 864 habitantes (INE, 2020).
Fundada en 1236, la villa ostentó el título de Cabeza de Vizcaya desde 1476 hasta 1602, siendo la principal población del Señorío de Vizcaya. Es por ello por lo que Bermeo gozó de ciertos privilegios y por lo que gozaba de mayor relevancia frente al resto de villas en las Juntas Generales de Vizcaya. A esto cabe añadirle las juras que los reyes realizaban en la iglesia de Santa Eufemia cada vez que visitaban la provincia.
Actualmente, se trata de una villa arraigada a la tradición marinera, ya que su economía se basa mayoritariamente en la pesca y en las conservas de pescado.
Posee además diferentes atractivos turísticos tales como la ermita de San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, la torre Ercilla (Museo del pescador), la Puerta de San Juan, el casco antiguo, la Atalaya y el manicomio y su acogedor puerto, entre otros.
The town of Bermeo is a Biscayan municipality in the Busturialdea region, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, Spain. It is one of the most populated towns in the region of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, together with Guernica and Luno, with 16,864 inhabitants (INE, 2020).
Founded in 1236, the town held the title of Head of Vizcaya from 1476 to 1602, being the main population of the Lordship of Vizcaya. That is why Bermeo enjoyed certain privileges and why it enjoyed greater relevance compared to the rest of the towns in the General Meetings of Vizcaya. To this must be added the oaths that the kings made in the church of Santa Eufemia every time they visited the province.

El municipio de Guernica y Luno surge en el siglo XIX tras la unión administrativa de la anteiglesia de Luno y de la villa de Guernica, fundada a su vez en terrenos pertenecientes a Luno, aunque cada entidad conservó su derecho propio; la anteiglesia el derecho foral de la Tierra Llana de Vizcaya, y la villa el derecho común castellano.
Guernica y Luno alberga el lugar donde se reunían las Juntas Generales de Vizcaya, bajo el roble conocido como Árbol de Guernica, símbolo de las libertades de los vizcaínos y donde antiguamente, los señores de Vizcaya, tras recibir su título, venían a jurar el respeto del fuero de Vizcaya.
El 26 de abril de 1937, durante la Guerra Civil Española, la ciudad fue bombardeada por la Legión Cóndor, unidad aérea de la Luftwaffe al servicio de la causa franquista. Inspirado en estos hechos, Pablo Picasso pintó su obra Guernica presentada en la Exposición Internacional de París de 1937. En la Segunda Guerra Mundial, los voluntarios vascos que participaron en la Brigada Carnot de las Fuerzas Francesas del Interior tomaron el nombre de Batallón Guernica. 124 civiles fueron las víctimas del ataque alemán a una población indefensa y sin instalaciones militares.
Gernika-Lumo is a municipality in Vizcaya, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, Spain, belonging to the Busturialdea region and framed in the natural area of Urdaibai.
