Palazzo della Ragione - 4 of 4.
The palazzo il Salone (big hall) measures 82 meters long, 27 meters wide and 24 meters high.
The original frescoes of the hall, attributed to Giotto, were destroyed in the fire of 1420.
The hall was frescoed again between 1425 and 1440 with a grandiose cycle of astrological paintings based on the studies of Pietro d’Abano, by Niccolò Miretto and Stefano da Ferrara.
The decoration consists of more than three hundred different scenes divided into two sections: the upper area, dating back to the fifteenth century, contains scenes that develop over three levels and shows that each month of the year corresponds to certain signs of the zodiac, trades and character traits.
The lower area is less densely decorated and contains parts of the 14th-century frescoes.

Seen on a day trip Danube river cruise in Austria
Schloss Schönbühel is a castle in the Lower Austrian town of Schönbühel-Aggsbach, below Melk on the right bank of the Danube. The origins of the castle date from the early 12th century. The castle is built on rock approximately 40 metres (130 ft) above the level of the river Danube. A Roman fortress may have stood there before. The castle was begun in the early 12th century by Marchwardus de Schoenbuchele as a defensive fortress.

Rathaus
Im 13. Jahrhundert diente noch zum großen Teil die Martinikirche oder die Ratsstube auf dem Kirchhof als Versammlungsort des Stadtrates. Durch das Anwachsen der städtischen Gemeinde sowie der Verwaltungsaufwände im Umland, entschied man 1381 den Baubeginn des neuen Rathauses. Anfänglich wurde es als einfacher Profanbau errichtet, später wurden dann hochwertig verzierte Anbauten angeschlossen. So auch die doppelte Freitreppe aus der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts. Während des zweiten Weltkrieges wurde das Rathaus so stark zerstört, dass es in den folgenden Jahren nur abgetragen werden konnte. Von 1996 bis 1998, während der Neuplanung und Neubebauung des Stadtzentrums, errichtete man einen neuen Bau am Originalstandort, wobei die Westfassade, der zerstörten, historischen Fassade aus dem 19. Jahrhundert nachempfunden wurde.
Roland
In dem Jahr 1433 wurde der Roland an der Westseite des Rathauses aufgestellt. Seine Entstehung jedoch, geht vermutlich schon auf das Baujahr des Rathauses 1381 zurück. Diese 4,20 große Sandsteinfigur ist somit nach der Bremer Rolandabbilung die älteste im Original erhaltene Figur dieser Art. Als Sinnbild der Stärke, des Rechtes und der Freiheit des Bürgertums, befindet sich die Rolandfigur heute wieder am originalem Standort an der Westseite des Rathauses. Von 1948 bis 1998 stand dieser an der Martinikirche.

I framed the photo using the opening of the traffic bridge over the Lester River on London Road in Duluth, MN. If you look closely, you can see a sport fishing boat far off in the distance, lazily making it's way north.
