'Christmas trees by Su_G': my entry in Spoonflower's 'Non-Directional Ditsy Holiday' Design Challenge. Original: Line art © Su Schaefer 2024
These are modeled on some beautiful turned wood trees made by my friend Alison in her Men’s Shed. Picture of these coming soon - when I find it!

I hurt my lumbar spine pretty severely a while back (okay, well more like 4-5 years ago), and it has recently been acting up and becoming a rather large nuisance; making every day tasks more challenging than they need be. In response to the aggravation in my lumbar area, I've started to exercise the core of my body, more so than usual, in order to aid "recovery." I feel like it is helping, but like most other things, recovery is a process, and cannot be expected instantly.
You might also notice I've decided to let my hair grow out a little bit. The weather has been pretty balmy overall the last couple of months, and my head used to get pretty cold!
I am going to an orchid exposition tomorrow, at Fort Mason, in San Francisco. It should be a great time. Tickets are originally $15 -a little steep in my opinion! But here to save the day? Groupon, half off tickets, score! Now, I am not myself one who keeps orchids, however I am one who can certainly appreciate the beauty, intricacies, and the art behind raising orchids.
"To help us bring benefit to others through our words and actions, it is useful to cultivate an attitude of sympathetic joy in others’ achievements and good fortune. This attitude is a powerful antidote against envy, which is not only a source of unnecessary suffering on the individual level but also an obstacle to our ability to reach out and engage with others."
-Dalai Lama
*I am aware of how random, this quote is. But I wanted to share this with you all, in case you haven't seen it. I think it is an awesome quote, and that we can all benefit from it. I have memorized this quote, and I try to apply it to every day circumstances. This is relevant to me because I consider myself a work in progress. Pearls of wisdom like the one above are one of the many vessels I use to encourage perpetual mental, emotional, and spiritual growth (more on this in another post).
But back on track -I've gone ahead and decided, at some arbitrary point in time last year, that I would like to try and squeeze in a self portrait of myself every now and then. I figure this for a couple of reasons; so my strobist work does not get rusty (not that it is as polished as it is), and also to keep track of, well ... myself. At some point in the future I may very well look back at the images I have of myself ... and remember what a handsome young chap I "was," haha! You can laugh later, if you'd like. All kidding aside, it was fun to get out again and shoot a post-52 selfie.
I was not up to driving anywhere to take this picture (or anywhere else, in general). Gas is highway robbery so expensive! So, instead, I opted to find a place by foot. It was so cold (odd at first, because the sun was up!) that I did not end up wandering very far. These are the steps to Lawton Alternative School. I attended this school from kindergarten through the eighth grade (junior high for those who want to be finicky). Lots of memories surged to mind as I walked around the campus. It's been way too long. Or am I just getting old? Don't answer that. Geeze.

Got some new sheers (Ikea's Wilma) instead of the heavy wood blinds and grabbed the new Jorun pillow covers and lumbar cushion from Ikea. Love it, it lightned up the room!

Pun alert:
Because of its shape, instead of a pine tree, this is a spine tree. Instead of lumber, you get lumbar.

This is actually a TurboMatic saddle together with the Selle Italia Lumbar Support that was designed to integrate with it. "The Purpose of the Lumbar Support. The cyclist makes use of 3 support points on his bicycle:- Handlebars, saddle and pedals. Two of these points are fixed: the handlebars which are steadied by the hands, and the pedals to which the shoes are secured by a variety of devices (pedal systems). The saddle permits some lengthwise movement while pedalling. The Lumbar Support therefore serves to support the rider while he/his is pedalling intensely on flat or hilly terrain, improving performance and improving the air penetration coefficient referred to man-machine complex. In this way the saddle becomes the third fixed support point." Former French cyclist, Thierry Marie won the 1986 Tour De France prologue time trial with a similar product. Following this, the UCI then banned their future use.
Lumbar Spine Pelvis Muscles Pelvic Floor chiropractor illustrations
Illustrates the muscles of the pelvic floor and shows them contracting.
1. LEVATOR ANI
DESCRIPTION
Levator ani is a broad flat muscle that forms most of the pelvic floor. chiropractor illustrations.
ORIGIN
The pubo-coccygeal part of the levator ani originates from the back of the body of the pubis and passes almost horizontally. The fibres are attached to the sphincter urethrae, the perineal body and the rectum (and the prostate in the male and the vagina in the male).
The pubo-rectal part of levator ani originates with the pubo-coccygeal part, but passes below it.
The ilio-coccygeal part of levator ani originates from obturator fascia between the obturator canal and the ischial spine.
INSERTION
The pubo-coccygeal part of the levator ani inserts into the sphincter urethrae, the perineal body and the rectum (and the prostate in the male and the vagina in the male). chiropractor illustrations.
The pubo-rectal part of levator ani joins with the same from the opposite side and the sphincter ani externus to form a sling behind the anorectal junction.
The ilio-coccygeal part of levator ani contributes to the anococcygeal ligament, then inserts into the last two segments of the coccyx.
INNERVATION
Levator ani is innervated anteromedially by the pudendal nerve and posterolateral by direct branches from the sacral plexus. chiropractor illustrations.
BLOOD SUPPLY
Levator ani is supplied by the inferior gluteal artery.
ACTION
The pubo-rectal part reinforces the sphincter ani externus, assists creating the anorectal angle, and decreases the anteroposterior radius of the ano-urogenital hiatus.
FUNCTION
Levator ani forms much of the pelvic floor, which supports the pelvic viscera and contributes to raising the intra-abdominal pressure.
Levator ani's medial fibres are lateral compressors of the rectum, urethra and vagina, assisting with continence.
During late pregnancy, the pelvic floor directs the fetal head into the antero-posterior diameter of the pelvic outlet.
2. COCCYGEUS
Lumbar Spine Pelvis Muscles Pelvic Floor chiropractor illustrations.
DESCRIPTION
Coccygeus is a triangular sheet that is postero-superior to levator ani. The sacro-spinous ligament is generally regarded to be a degenerate part or an aponeurosis of the muscle.
ORIGIN
Coccygeus originates from pelvic surface and tip of ischial spine. chiropractor illustrations.
INSERTION
Coccygeus is fused with the sacro-spinous ligament, and inserts into the lateral margins of the coccyx and the fifth sacral segment.
VARIATIONS
Coccygeus is occasionally absent.
INNERVATION
Coccygeus is innervated by branches of the ventral primary rami of spinal nerves S3-S4.
BLOOD SUPPLY
Coccygeus is supplied by the inferior gluteal artery.
ACTION
Coccygeus supports the coccyx, and pulls it forward after it has been pushed posteriorly during child-birth.
FUNCTION
Coccygeus forms the posterior and smaller part of the pelvic diaphragm. It acts with levator ani to support the abdominal organs.
