I had one evening to spend in the town of Fort Bragg on the Northern California Coast. For a sunset location, I chose this wooden trestle bridge at the mouth of Pudding Creek. The original Pudding Creek Bridge was built in 1915 as part of a 10 mile railroad used to transport lumbar to town. I imagined that it would be really cool to have a steam locomotive speed by as I snapped this shot but it has been many years since the last train passed through.

😔 I write this with a heavy heart. The last couple of years have found me with a progressively degrading spinal column (4 hernias spread across my cervical, dorsal and lumbar regions) as well as hip and shoulder joint problems. I am to the point where I can no longer work and even photography is painful... although I still try.

If it were just me, I would never ask, but I have 2 young daughters that look to me for support, so I have to swallow my pride... It’s been difficult to find time for Flickr recently due to my Mrs. suddenly developing loss-of-use of her left leg, and we have been dealing with exams and tests lately.

Today started out with a 9 AM arrival at the hospital for a surgical procedure on her lumbar spine. It's now 9:30 PM my time and I’m still waiting for her to get to the recovery room.

While waiting I came across this photo my wife captured (with her iPhone) of my sweet girl, Logan, who turned 12 this year. As you can see from the pic, she likes naps as much as this old guy, so we tend to hang-out together… for sure once a day at nap time.

Hopefully, I'll get back to photography and Flickr soon.

Unos cuantos vuelos oteando la fuente, otro rasante para escoger un buen lugar para poner los huevos, y muchos pinchazos con el ovopositor que, desgraciadamente, no pude enfocar en ninguna de las ...mil fotos ya que se hundía y desaparecía en el mullido musgo.

Cambió de sitio varias veces, siempre en las paredes interiores de la fuente, no sé si porque le molestaba mi proximidad o, más bien, por no dejar todos los huevos en la misma cesta.

Media hora observándola y haciendo fotos en posturas bastante incómodas. Lo dejé porque me dolían los lumbares; ella seguía.

Acabo de leer que sus puestas andan por los 500 huevos! Desde luego transmitía la impresión de concentrada y atareada.

Unfortunately, we have bad news. Although things looked really good for the first few days, complications arose on Monday. When we were back at the clinic, a growth was discovered under his lumbar spine, which could theoretically be anything, but is most likely a tumor that is causing him a lot of problems. To make matters worse, his knee and the surgical wound have now become infected, he's on two different antibiotics now, and he's barely able to walk.

We're doing everything we can, but the next few days we'll have to decide if we let him go.

Ora de las imágenes que me fue muy difícil captar. De hace ya unos añitos en el hide privado de un buen amigo. Fue un gran día para retratar aves en la charca y disfrutar de la sauna en la que se convirtió el hide. El azor nos hizo dos visitas, y en la segunda ya estaba yo "al loro" para intentar fotografiar la llegada.

Primero fueron las tórtolas, las que volaron. Al poco se retiraron el resto de pajarillos de la charca, y se hizo el silencio. Me puse en alerta y lo busqué, pues podría andar merodeando. Barrí los árboles del fondo con el visor de la cámara y al fin lo vi posado en una rama.

El calor lo invitaría a acercarse al agua, o al menos eso pensé, así que me preparé para intentar captar el vuelo. A pulso, porque la rótula de mi trípode no es lo suficientemente buena para seguir un vuelo y quería la máxima libertad de movimientos. Es así como suelo captarlos siempre y soy capaz de manejarme con los 3kg del equipo. Pero recuerdo esta ocasión porque puso a prueba mi resistencia.

Lo tenía en el visor, pero no se acababa de decidir a venir a la charca. Los minutos pasaban y mis brazos y lumbares empezaban a clamar por un descanso, hacía calor, y el sudor perlaba mi rostro (dicho así suena elegante, pero qué va!). Y por fin, al cabo de unos interminables minutos, se lanzó y vino derecho. Lo demás fue tratar de centrarlo en el visor y lanzar la ráfaga, cruzando los dedos para que pillara bien el foco. Y literalmente se me echó encima aterrizando en la charca. 10 tomas, 9 a la papelera. Así que se salvó esta, que valoro mucho, seguramente más de lo que su calidad merece, entre otras cosas por el esfuerzo que me supuso y que aún recuerdo.

For a long time, I thought rustic and modern belonged to completely different worlds. I imagined that each style needed its own space, its own rules, and a perfectly defined identity. However, interior design, like our tastes, is constantly evolving, and with it, our understanding of spaces also changes.

Today, I believe that almost anything is possible when there is intention behind every choice.

I love contrasts and I adore challenges. That's why, on this occasion, I decided to step outside of what usually defines me and explore an unusual combination in my work: a mix of styles, textures, and eras that, at first glance, might seem opposite.

The warmth of natural fibers and earth tones coexists with more elegant lines, classic pieces, and a few contemporary details. The abundant vegetation softens the architecture and allows the exterior to blend seamlessly with the interior, while the light streaming through the large windows envelops the entire scene with a delicate sense of home.

The real challenge wasn't simply bringing together different objects, but finding the point where they could all converse with one another. I wanted each element to retain its own personality without competing with the others, creating a harmonious, welcoming, and vibrant space.

Perhaps that's the most beautiful thing about mixing styles: discovering that harmony doesn't always arise from what is the same. Often, it emerges precisely from differences, when we learn to balance them and allow each element to contribute something special to the whole.

Today, I present a proposal that's unusual for me, but one that represents something I deeply enjoy: daring to experiment, temporarily abandoning my own rules, and transforming a challenge into a place that invites us to linger, share, and savor every corner.

Because decorating is also about evolving, surprising ourselves, and discovering beauty in combinations we once thought impossible.

Al realizar la fotografía, quería transmitir, la descordinación... un trabajo antinatural... la humillación de un ser humano, del porqué al pobre chico la hacían manosear cada uno de los ladrillos que debían subir a la obra?... la ineptitud de los encargados, suficiente para mandarlos a estudiar de verdad, pero con orejones.

Esta es la denuncia de mi foto, de ahí el título en segundas.

La solución... transportar los ladrillos en palets con camión y desde ahí subirlos con grua que la había, a lo alto de la obra.

Por que los transportaban sueltos? elevación de volquete y todos fuera, con una cuarta parte de ladrillos partidos o rotos, despues de uno en uno ponerlos en el palet del suelo para que la grua los suba... este es el país de los mas listos fijo señores, el dolor de lumbares no los tiene el encargado no, los tiene el pobre chaval.

It's not artificially perfect lighting, but rather a natural beauty that changes with the hours of the day and brings movement to every corner.

The color palette remains in neutral tones: soft sands, ivories, and earthy hues that serve as a calm canvas for the decorative elements. Accents in olive green and gold add depth without disrupting the visual harmony. Everything seems to converse in hushed tones, without any jarring notes.

The furniture invites you to linger. The large, curved sofa, with its generous lines and soft upholstery, becomes the heart of the room. Around it, coffee tables with stone finishes and metallic details add sophistication, while decorative ceramic pieces lend an artisanal feel that balances the contemporary elegance.

One of the most interesting aspects of the space is the presence of plants. They don't appear as mere decorative accessories, but as natural inhabitants of the room. Their different heights, shapes, and colors create a constant connection with the outdoors, reinforcing an increasingly valued trend in contemporary design: biophilia, the pursuit of well-being through visual contact with nature.

The pendant lamps function like floating sculptures. Their organic forms add character and help visually define the room's height, creating a play of volumes that enriches the composition without overwhelming it.

This living room speaks to a more leisurely way of life. Of relaxed breakfasts in the morning light, of conversations that linger without a glance at the clock, and of moments of rest that find refuge among plants, textures, and natural light.

Because in the end, the best decor isn't the one that impresses at first glance. It's the one that makes us feel at home even before we sit down

Some spaces don’t need grand excesses to convey beauty. Sometimes, the balance between materials, a serene color palette, and the way light flows into every corner are enough to transform a room into a true sanctuary. This living room is a clear example of how design can feel warm, elegant, and deeply inviting.

Inspired by the charm of contemporary farmhouse style, the space combines the texture of white-painted brick walls with the richness of dark wood and a delicate selection of natural fibers. The sofas, in ivory and olive green tones, provide a sophisticated contrast that integrates perfectly with the small botanical details scattered throughout the room.

The true protagonist, however, is the light. A warm summer glow seems to stream in from a side window, casting soft shadows on the furniture and enhancing each texture without sacrificing naturalness. This interplay of light adds depth to the space, subtly and realistically bringing the fabrics, wood, and ceramics to life. It doesn’t overwhelm the space; It simply complements the space, creating a tranquil atmosphere that invites you to pause, enjoy a conversation, or share a coffee on a bright afternoon.

The central table acts as the heart of the composition. Fresh fruit, books, ceramic pieces, and floral arrangements create a balance between decoration and functionality, demonstrating that small, everyday objects can also become focal points when arranged harmoniously.

On the walls, botanical illustrations and paintings, placed naturally, add personality without overwhelming the space. Each element seems to have found its place spontaneously, reinforcing that feeling of lived-in home that defines today’s most inspiring interiors.

Some interiors are designed to impress at first glance. Others invite us to stay, to look more closely, and to discover the quiet stories hidden within every layer. Verdant Heritage belongs to the latter—a room where nature, history, and craftsmanship come together in a composition that feels both collected and deeply personal.

The rich forest-green armchairs immediately anchor the space. Their generous silhouettes bring softness and intimacy, creating a sense of enclosure around the central seating area. Rather than acting merely as a bold color statement, the green establishes a connection with the abundant foliage surrounding the room. Plants rise between the furniture and decorative objects, extending their branches freely and introducing movement into an otherwise carefully structured setting.

At the heart of the composition, an aged pedestal table provides an elegant focal point. Some spaces don’t need elaborate artifice to evoke emotion. All it takes is the precise moment of the day when nature decides to become the ultimate interior and exterior designer. That brief moment when the sun begins to set, shadows lengthen delicately, and every texture acquires a depth impossible to recreate artificially.

These two compositions perfectly embody that philosophy: allowing architecture, landscaping, and light to converse with one another.

In the first scene, a quiet corner transforms into an intimate retreat. Natural fibers, aged wood, fabrics in sand and olive tones, and tropical vegetation create a relaxed atmosphere where everything invites you to linger. The central fire provides a warm gathering point, while the soft light of the setting sun caresses the parasols and discreetly filters through the palm fronds, generating a delicate interplay of light and shadow that adds realism and depth without compromising the overall serenity.

Here, the lighting doesn’t compete with the decor; it complements it.

Each shadow cast seems to tell the story of an afternoon slowly turning into night.

The second image expands that experience into a true tropical oasis. Water becomes the main protagonist, reflecting the dramatic sky with golden and copper hues that constantly shift with the movement of the surface. A soft influx of light from the horizon subtly illuminates the pool, adding natural sparkles that bring the landscape to life without losing the tranquil atmosphere of sunset.

Can lead to back pain, the chiropractor said. Learn to live with it he says, do exercises, eat right and get plenty of rest too. Ok, I may not be a neurosurgeon, but that seems like a fairly generic prognosis. If dude is sucking up my hard-earned insurance coverage, I wanna hear some 4th and 5th lumbar degeneration terminology, or that really long porosis word being thrown around a few times on my next visit. Take me for a spin around the block in your new Lexus ( that I partially bought ) you cheap prick.

Latin name: Papaver somniferum - Pink Pompom Poppy

I apologise to my contacts for my recent sometimes lengthy absence from Flickr, but following X-rays, scans and consultant/surgeon appointments, it has been diagnosed that between each of four vertebrae in my neck I have four crushed discs in my neck, C3,C4,C5,C6, which is causing severe nerve pressure between every joint. These nerves then travel to various parts of the body and is causing the most problems from my neck up each side of the head right to the top of the skull and also down to the lumbar region of the back. Because I have previously had three procedures/operations in the lumbar region, no further procedure/operation is viable because of the amount of scar tissue which would make it a "working blind" situation for the surgeon and is a "no-go" decision. I cannot be given an operation to fuse 4 discs in my neck as it would mean that I have no neck movement whatsoever, and in any case is diagnosed as being much too dangerous an operation in that area, as it could render me quadraplegic. With only slight movement in my neck, any sudden movement outside of the current comfortable range, gives me shooting pains up the sides of my head to the top of my head, which I have likened to electric shocks. Because it affects my lumbar region I find it impossible to walk any distance and cannot stand up straight, so am now using a wheelchair which we can fold to fit in the car. I am currently on prescribed pain relief tablets which make me very drowsy, and fall asleep with no prior warning! I have had one session with the surgeon who gave me 12 injections across the back of my neck, and I am due for another similar session mid May, which was the first available slot. Between Merv and myself we try to keep the group going and catch up with things quickly, so if you have submitted a photo for entry into the Group Pool, this is being attended to as soon as possible. I will thank you all, in advance, for your patience and understanding.

They are amazing double lanciniata-type flowers in a lovely pink colour. The large, frilly blooms are truly eye-catching when they contrast to the blue-grey foliage of the plants.

Who hides reality, pretends, poses and always wants to give the impression of being well. He wants to be seen as perfect, easy-going, etc. but is accumulating tons of weight. A bronze statue with feet of clay. There is nothing worse for the health than to live on appearances and facades. These are people with a lot of varnish and little root. Their destiny is the pharmacy, the hospital and pain.

The refusal of acceptance and the absence of self-esteem, make us alienate ourselves. Being at one with ourselves is the core of a healthy life. They who do not accept this, become envious, jealous, imitators, ultra-competitive, destructive. Be accepted, accept that you are accepted, accept the criticisms. It is wisdom, good sense and therapy.
