Looking like she is cruising along at high speed, this Bulgarian 4-8-2 racehorse is actually standing still. Just as she pulled up to my position, the drivers started slipping furiously, and for several minutes the driver failed to get her moving, all the while thrashing away. The best stationary show I have ever experienced. Thanks to Bernd Seiler of Farrail for another excellent tour.
Taken at Boundary Bay, BC, Canada - September 2016.
While birding last weekend at Boundary Bay, I spotted some golden plovers mixed in with the abundant Black-bellied Plovers. There were 4 Pacific Golden-Plovers and 2 American Golden-Plovers. Approaching plover flocks is usually extremely difficult, and the tide was also very high, which meant that if I was going to approach the birds, I would get soaking wet. I decided to go for it, since it is very rare to see such a large group of golden-plovers in this area. The water was about 5 inches deep, meaning I got soaking wet as a crawled towards the birds, holding my camera above the surface, keeping it dry. Thankfully, the mud was hard and there was no wind or waves, so I felt my gear was very safe. After a very slow approach for a long time, I found myself around 4 metres away from these beautiful birds. In the years I have photographed shorebirds at Boundary Bay I have had many amazing moments, but this was definitely one of my favorite ones ever. I got the shots I had hoped for of Pacific-Golden, American-Golden, and Black-bellied Plovers. I got soaking wet, but it was undoubtedly worth it! After some time with the birds I moved off, leaving them to their resting and feeding.

I took this low angle 'bug's' view of the Colosseum during my trip to Rome, Italy. Rome is such an amazing city!

Last Saturday some of the members of our Photography Group met up at the Savannas park. It's predominantly an open grassland with lots of Saw Palmettos and Slash pine trees. Here's a backlit low angle shot of some of those pine trees. We were back indoors before the sun got too harsh.
Another image from "home"... these persistent dandelions were sheared off later in the day by my parent's ferocious lawn mower, but not before I managed to take the Hasselblad out into the backyard. My bedroom window is in the upper left corner there, and the green tree in the background is the one planted when my dog Tuffy died, and dedicated to his memory. We planted that tree when I was 14 or 15... it's huge now. I guess we both grew up.

I spend a lot of time in the forest surrounding our community. It's the morning outing for our dog, Heidi, but it's also a special place simply to be. That was the topic on my website this week.

I stayed in Prague for almost a month in early 2014. One morning I woke up early and took sunrise photos in the cold.

Puffins on a tiny island named Halfnarholmi, a few minutes away from a town named Borgarfjörður Eystri in the Eastern Fjords of Iceland. It's a beautiful little town, and the puffin watching is great, too!
