The Louvre is a national art museum in Paris, France. It is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement and home to some of the most canonical works of Western art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built in the late 12th to 13th century under Philip II. Remnants of the Medieval Louvre fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Due to urban expansion, the fortress eventually lost its defensive function, and in 1546 Francis I converted it into the primary residence of the French Kings.

The building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace. In 1682, Louis XIV chose the Palace of Versailles for his household, leaving the Louvre primarily as a place to display the royal collection, including, from 1692, a collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. In 1692, the building was occupied by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, which in 1699 held the first of a series of salons. The Académie remained at the Louvre for 100 years. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum to display the nation's masterpieces.

The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments with more than 60,600 square metres (652,000 sq ft) dedicated to the permanent collection. The Louvre exhibits sculptures, objects d'art, paintings, drawings, and archaeological finds. At any given point in time, approximately 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are being exhibited over an area of 72,735 square metres (782,910 sq ft). With over 7.8 million visitors in 2022, the Louvre is the world's most-visited museum.

Louvre. This looks to me like a forerunner of the Catholic church describing angels with multiple wings.

Una vez en la localización intento llevarme la tarjeta llena, la noche que estaba en el Louvre hice la panorámica de los 360º que tenía a mi alrededor, ayer me decidí a acabar el trabajo y revelar la parte pendiente.

Espero que os guste.

Something different ....these louvres caught my eye ....the subtle graduation of light and shade creating a simple abstract image

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is an art museum located in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The Louvre Abu Dhabi was inaugurated in 2017. The result of an unprecedented partnership between France and the United Arab Emirates, it is France’s largest cultural project abroad. There are three cornerstones to its success: its spectacular architecture, the richness of its permanent collection (thanks to loans from the Louvre and other French museums), and the quality of its temporary exhibitions.

Born out of an intergovernmental agreement signed between France and the United Arab Emirates on 6 March 2007, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is the first universal museum in the Arab world. It brings the Louvre name to Abu Dhabi and presents both ancient and contemporary works of historic, cultural and sociological interest from around the world.

Jean Nouvel, the Pritzker Architecture Prize winner was selected to design the museum. During the initial Concept Design phase in 2006-2007, Jean Nouvel and his team designed the museum as a "seemingly floating dome structure"; its web-patterned dome allowing the sun to filter through. The overall effect is meant to represent "rays of sunlight passing through date palm fronds in an oasis."

The museum’s permanent collection comprises some 700 artworks and groups of artworks from every period and civilisation (from prehistoric times to the present day). Another 300 works are loans from partner museums.

Louvre is one of the world's largest museum and also a well-known landmark of Paris. Located on the right bank of the Seine, this world class museum is a former royal palace and was the actual seat of power in France before Louis XIV decided to move his political powers to Palace of Versailles. Nonetheless he still uses Louvre as a place to store his private art collection. So that is how the Louvre began to becoming a world class museum

Known locally as Musee du Louvre, it houses the most renowned painting - the Mona Lisa, and masterpieces like the Winged Victory of Samothrace and Venus de Milo, and more than 380000 objects as well as 35000 works of art. The place is so enormous that you need a game plan when you visit. You could spend days there if you were to look and digest each artwork and exhibition thoroughly. Go early to avoid long queues at the ticketing counter. If you are into art and history, make it a long trip as you will not be disappointed. But if you plan just for a short visit, I would recommend going straight to the 1st floor of the Denon wing. There, you can see masterpieces by da Vinci including the Mona Lisa, multiple works of Raphael and other huge paintings from the 17th Century Upwards. Other exhibitions and items that are interesting to see is the Napoleon apartment. You will certainly be impressed with its splendor and it is a definite must for any visitor.

An image of light and reflections at The Louvre Art Gallery, Paris , France.

The Pyramid was designed by Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard (Cour Napoléon) of the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) in Paris.

The large pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Completed in 1989, it has become a landmark of the city of Paris.

It looks wonderful lit up at night, I was quite lucky there were not too many people around, can you spot the dog though?
