The Union Pacific RR encircles the Tehachapi Loop and threads Tunnel 10, where a second track has recently been added between the old Walong and Marcel sidings, to join them together as a longer stretch of double track.
Strangely, the new piece of track has been laid in a deep cutting outside the existing tunnel 10.
Presumably cost and disruption factored into the decision not to remove the tunnel and its overburden. As they say in model railway circles - "there's a prototype for everything!"

87016, 'Sir Francis Drake', has been put into the up loop at Beattock whilst working a Glasgow Central to London Euston express service for some reason. We were also stopped on a northbound service at this location. A southbound service, hauled by a class 47 had caught fire descending Beattock about a mile north of where we were. When we passed the Fire Service had arrived to check that the fire had been put out.
Note at this time evidence of the transition of the livery from Blue / Grey to the Intercity Executive livery.

Four different birds, not a composite shot. It’s the real deal… one split moment in time all in a single shot.
My Loop March Spontaneous Skinning Batt spun up in a skein. Lots of little glitzy bits, purples and browns and rich autumnal colors... with lots of sparkly bits! So nice, 180 yards.
The Loop is the central business district of Chicago, Illinois. It is one of the city's 77 designated community areas. The Loop is home to Chicago's commercial core, City Hall, and the seat of Cook County. The community area is bounded on the west and north by the Chicago River, on the east by Lake Michigan, and on the south by Roosevelt Road, although the commercial core has expanded into adjacent community areas. As a business center, the Loop hosts the Chicago Board of Trade at the foot of LaSalle Street, and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The Loop is home to Grant Park, the State Street shopping district, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Other major cultural institutions that call this area home include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Goodman Theatre, the Joffrey Ballet, the central public Harold Washington Library, and the Chicago Cultural Center.

There appears to be some kind of electronic information boards, although not for platform 2.
The paper notice stands are presumably about arrangements for replacement bus services.
