Built in 2009, this Postmodern-style building was constructed to house the Moonrise Hotel, developed by Joe Edwards, and incorporates the Renaissance Revival-style front facade of the former Ronald L. Jones Funeral Home, built in the early 20th Century. The building’s front facade is clad in buff brick with tall glass curtain walls that extend above most of the brick panels, a large blade sign attached to the tall pier in the center of the facade, a rotating moon sculpture atop the roof, and a green terra cotta tile roof, buff and red brick facade, limestone trim, arched bays on the first floor, and a decorative awning above the main entrance on the preserved front wing. The sides and rear of the hotel are simpler, and clad in EIFS, or exterior finish and insulation system, with vertical bands of windows, with a suspended metal canopy outside the lobby, a passageway for vehicles to the rear parking lot, and a rooftop terrace with glass railings. The building serves as a unique space-themed boutique hotel, and is one of several high-quality Contemporary structures along Delmar Boulevard in the vibrant Delmar Loop section of St. Louis.
