....Purple Heart. Found the definition in the two volume American College Dictionary (1952) that I lugged over to England when I moved here in the sixties. I used to read it for fun when I was little. I was pretty much a Lisa Simpson clone.
This was taken for the Macro Monday theme: 'Looking Up.' That's my dad's Purple Heart on the dictionary. He got it at Guadalcanal, in 1942. Happy Macro Monday!

[EDIT: The question whether this is s/w is better or not is kind of answered now: As of yesterday (2012-06-15) this is the most interesting image in my photo stream according to flickr stats ;-) ]
Inspired by a photo by HamburgCam ( www.flickr.com/photos/internationalphotos/7209693760/in/p... ) I deceided to do some shooting in the Europapassage as well. Here's the first of the resulting images.
Applied crop and b/w only, otherwise unr3touched.
A steel pylon dominates the frame as power lines stretch diagonally across a cloudless blue sky. Off to the right, a distant airplane adds a subtle sense of scale to the vast open backdrop.
