Water
Todays task is water. There is no reliable water. The tanks are dead (Frank a 63K litre tank is suspect with the inner poly liner burning to the waterline), the bore head is shot and there is no power to run it. There is also no power board to connect it. All have been destroyed. So todays task is secure a new 1K litre ruggedised water tank called a shutz. New because you want to store & transport drinking water. Where do you get them? Turns out "K" works in logisitics and is familiar with where to find such stuff.
So it's off to WestEnd Pallets in Williamstown. These blokes are pretty keenly snapped up so I consider myself lucky. The delivery details have been given. Now it's going to sisters house then DOP then Kinglake West.
done
- ordered shutz
- phoned Dad with sitrep
- emailed list with sitrep
todo
- be at DOP for shutz dropoff
- pick up 38mm brass hoses, nozzles & flow restrictors from reece for fast empty
- bbq cook in the afternoon
Bushfire tragedy highlights the remarkable human spirit
"... I'd urge Premier Brumby. on behalf of the State government and the people of Victoria to nominate the Country Fire Authority, as a body, for an Order of Australia award in recognition of the bravery of its members in battling the monstrous Black Saturday firestorms ..."
Why?
Because most are doing it without pay, put there lives and a lot of cases livelihood and possessions on the line for their community and others.
I'd skip adding the entire CFA. I'd really like to see this kind of recognition for individual brigades and brigade members instead of "Heads" who are by all accounts out of the line of fire. They don't expect pay or recognition but maybe that is what is needed to show our gratitude for service and volunteering.
a bit later on
"... People put their lives on the line without pay every year. Why single this lot out? ..."
Who?
Not at such an organised way as the CFA. They tend to serve their local areas and as such directly contribute in a measurable way.
"... There have been worse natural disasters in Australia's history ..."
Just out of curiosity I'd like anybody to add such disasters? 1800+ homes, +181 lives lost, large tracts of arable land lost. Per population the '39 fires with 40% of the population would come close. What's another?
"... But by all means reward individual acts of service and bravery on their merits. ..."
Agreed.

Fast 'n' bulbous, got me? The musings of Captain Beefheart don't often come to mind when looking at electric locomotives, but the revised Siemens 'Eurosprinters' certainly warrant the description. Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace, 23 May 2008.
The New Guard is formed by the Welsh Guards which is taking over from the Old Guard formed by the Royal Logistics Corps.
The Ensign from the Welsh Guards, with the rank of Second Lieutenant, and the Lieutenant from the Royal Logisitic Corps patrol up and down the forecourt of Buckingham Palace while the guard changing takes place.
The Ensign carries the Colours of an infantry regiment. The Royal Logisitics Corps as a support arm in the Army has no Colours and so the Lieutenant patrols only with drawn sword.
The unit of the Royal Logistics Corps providing the Guard was described as forming part of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps.
