Since some people were wondering ... here's how Logic Express looks on the screen, showing some of the program's functions and also loop placement.

One can write a piece of music and then command Logic to create it, or one can start dragging loops onto the grid and then, by a process of playback, addition and more playback, create a piece of music. I would call the first mode of composition traditional and the second improvisational. I choose door number two.

In case you wonder, the program no more "makes" the music for you than the camera takes the pictures for you. It all comes down to the operator.
