Anoche se abrieron cuatro echinopsis, enviados a mi casa hace años, hibridados por una amiga italiana , Cristina, que consiguió originar semillas de variados colores “ polinizando “ ella misma.
Cuando florecen pienso en la vainilla tan esencial en nuestros postres y aunque compro la esencia artificial que es sensiblemente más económica que la vaina de la orquídea de la Vainilla,no puedo evitar recordar la natural… Vi los cultivos en la isla de La Reunión, en la Polinesia francesa, donde las plantaciones de orquídeas vainilleras, fueron llevadas desde Mexico.
En un comienzo,si bien el clima del Pacífico Sur, es favorable a la planta , éstas no producían vaina porque las abejas que hacen la polinización no lograron adaptarse al clima.
Increíblemente un niño de doce años nativo de la isla, fue el que se dio cuenta de poner el polen con una astilla de bambú, levantó con mucho cuidado la membrana que separa la antera del estigma, y con el dedo, trasladó el polen de los órganos masculinos a los femeninos. Lógicamente, la flor dio fruto.
De este modo se logró que la vainilla pudiera cultivarse en otros lugares tropicales del mundo, como se hace en la actualidad.
Igualmente el cultivo ,manual es trabajoso, la flor vive solo ocho horas y en ese tiempo hay que realizar esta delicada tarea de ser “Celestina”aprovechando el total de las flores abiertas .
Mi nuera también disfruta de sus propias calabazas, ya que le indiqué usar el pincel para aprovechar que todas las flores de la calabaza sembrada, se conviertan en fruto.

You can't possibly shoot a ramp that looks like this with a standard lens, right? This scene demanded a fish eye for sure. This is the entry to the Springfield Armory in Springfield MA. The Armory was the primary manufacturing center for US military firearms, operating between 1777 and 1968. Most of the property is a college campus now. This is an exposure blended image to tame the highlights and bring out the shadows.

I don't know how else to phrase this.
It would stand to reason that the build is a build. But clowns are sometimes the stuff of nightmares, and sometimes that calls for a reversal of logic.
