Who thought it would be a good idea to place a chromed steel bench in a hot, sunny location?

The confusion of all nonhuman living creatures within the general and common category of the animal is not simply a sin against rigorous thinking, vigilance, lucidity, or empirical authority; it is also a crime. Not against animality precisely, but a crime of the first order against the animals, against animals.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam Zuid, Katendrecht, Migratiemuseum, Tornado, People (uncut)

Back to the Rotterdam MigratieMuseum (and the Tornado). It is situated in what was once a part of the giant San Francisco veem (harbour storage facility). It has been thru a lot. It was built for the HAL transatlantic shipping company in 1898, and its middle part was destroyed during WW2. The left part of the building (Fenix 1), among other things, served as a temporary art exposition space and now functions as the basis for the FenixLofts luxury apartment building. Ah, the story of gentrification.

The Migration Museum is in the right part of the former Veem, also known as Fenix 2. It once housed a Van Gend & Loos logistics hub, the Pinball Museum, the ‘Circuscentrum op De Kaap’ (Codarts Circus Arts school), and, last but not least, the Posse Brasserie.

It was spectacularly transformed (design Bureau Polderman & the Chinese MAD Architects) into the Fenix-Migration museum, with the ‘Tornado’ staircase (on display here) as its centre (designed by Ma Yansong, the founder of MAD).

And don’t think the museum is all about form and less about content. The way it commemorates the millions of emigrants who left Europe and Rotterdam in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is fascinating. The portrayal of the more recent migration to Europe is also documented excellently. For instance, there’s a dusty Peugeot 404 pick-up on display that was used to transport migrants through the Sahara to Libya on their way to the risky Mediterranean crossing.

Pretzel logic is a Steely Dan song from the eponymous album.

“sometimes between sin and truth are only separated by a thin mist, and we don't realize it, human logic is not the equal as God's logic”

I don't know how else to phrase this.

It would stand to reason that the build is a build. But clowns are sometimes the stuff of nightmares, and sometimes that calls for a reversal of logic.

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen me posting about the resizing process for that build. It's too awesome to not feature in its entirety.

Skin: Clown Makeup by BeSpoke Caravan, available at Dark Style Fair, and afterwards at the BeSpoke Caravan Mainstore. Thepack includes the base skin layers for the face/body, as well as individual makeup and blood-stain layers. This comes in EvoX and SLUV compatible versions. Everything you see is the skin and makeup!

Light Breaks Were No Sun Shines Dove non splende il sole luce penetra

Light breaks where no sun shines;

Where no sea runs, the waters of the heart

Push in their tides;

And, broken ghosts with glow-worms in their heads,

The things of light

File through the flesh where no flesh decks the bones.

A candle in the thighs

Warms youth and seed and burns the seeds of age;

Where no seed stirs,

The fruit of man unwrinkles in the stars,

Bright as a fig;

Where no wax is, the candle shows its hair.

Dawn breaks behind the eyes;

From poles of skull and toe the windy blood

Slides like a sea;

Nor fenced, nor staked, the gushers of the sky

Sprout to the rod

Divining in a smile the oil of tears.

Night in the sockets rounds,

Like some pitch moon, the limit of the globes;

Day lights the bone;

Where no cold is, the skinning gales unpin

The winter's robes;

The film of spring is hanging from the lids.

Light breaks on secret lots,

On tips of thought where thoughts smell in the rain;

When logics die,

The secret of the soil grows through the eye,

And blood jumps in the sun;

Above the waste allotments the dawn halts.

DYLAN THOMAS.

The silence was beautiful yet stark. Harsh silence. Unlike like the soft silence that fills a golden yawning morning, the sharp silence stretched miles into dark unwavering shadows that disappeared in the wall of fog. I had left my car far behind in the parking lot at the RMNP following a trail that led me through gentle sloping hills and forest yet suddenly the trail seemed to end suddenly and I found myself in a whiteout like chasm of fog and swirling snow. I stared into this white silent world fascinated by the dark abstract shapes. Maybe they were trees. Maybe something moved. A dark blur of motion in my peripheral vision on my right sent me spinning. My heart quickened and suddenly logic was there, explaining in a loud voice in my head to take the path and leave. I hesitated. My eyes were drawn to the jagged pointed tree heads barely emerging through the heavy blanket of mist. The trees stood watching, waiting. I raised my camera and as I stared though the tiny square trying to focus I heard the crackle and pop of breaking branches. Click.

Perhaps it was deer, drawn into this flat white wall as I was or some other woodland creature. Being so far up in the National park there are a lot of wild animals. I only know that I found myself back at my car within record time (ha!) Back at home I'm drawn over and over again to the shadowy mystique of the image. I feel the snow flakes against my cheek and the intensity of the moment. Had to share it as small as it may seem. I hope you enjoy the intrigue as well.

NOT POSED (logically)!!

Apologies for not catching up with my flickr friends this week, it's been a bit fraught. I took this leafless tree at Toowong beside the Brisbane River as it's curly and fuzzy branches and twigs were a bit different. Goodness knows if it is dead or just deciduous. Otherwise it is just The Tree!

Details from a metallic surface

What would the scientists of the past think of fuzzy logic?

This surreal digital artwork is a captivating and thought-provoking piece that masterfully blends elements of reality and imagination. The central figure, a person in a red coat and top hat, opens the coat to reveal an interior space that defies conventional logic. Inside the coat, there is a room with a wooden door, an arched window, and a hanging noose, creating a stark contrast between the exterior and interior worlds. The presence of smaller figures within the coat adds a layer of complexity and intrigue, inviting viewers to ponder the deeper meaning behind the scene. The use of vibrant colors and meticulous details enhances the surreal atmosphere, making this artwork a compelling exploration of the boundaries between the seen and unseen, the real and the imagined.
