97302 and 37405 working 6C56, the 09.50 Aberystwyth Krono Colas to Chirk Kronospan Colas Rail through Gobowen, Saturday 1.3.25.

Apparently the train was suffering braking problems and was held at the outer home at the top of the hill before the station and also the outer home on the departure from the station. Here it was crawling through the station at not much more than walking pace.

This log cabin from the early 1800s was originally in Mono Hills, Ontario, but it was moved to the Bradley Estate and Museum in Clarkson. It was built as a quick and easy, interim shelter for early settler families to occupy. It uses 16 and 20 foot logs that have been squared, grooved and peaked. Holes were drilled vertically through the logs at the corners for the oak pegs. I used a sepia grunge (my own) on my greyscale photo to give the two-tone effect. With the sun setting fast and Whernside already in shadow, it was in the last moments of sunlight that the loco appeared from Blea Moor. The Sun does its magic over Ribblehead beautifully illuminating the viaduct and train before ’logging off’ for the day.

We had waited here for well over an hour without the knowledge that this train was even running, fortunately, we held our nerve.

A fallen log slows the flow of the Afon Clywedog at Nant Mill.

These aged logs are a feature in my local park and on this crisp frosty morning gave the perfect opportunity to define the interesting lines created over the years.

Found this log house that the family has moved out of. Looks like the siding has partially rotted off. Love that sawmill scraps chinking on the addition.

We had lunch here, in a second-growth forest. There are not so many primeval (old-growth) forests in the Smokies, which were mostly logged over before becoming a national park.

Right after lunch we reached the Albright Grove, one of those primeval forests. You can see the difference.

The Albright Grove is a reasonable day hike, but not for everyone. One old-growth forest is easy to reach, just beyond a popular site.

56090 charges through Lancaster Castle on the up fast with 6J37, the 14.02 Carlisle - Chirk logs on Fri 16th August 2024.

With the failure of 56051, someone took the brave decision to allow 090 to run solo with load 17. No mean feat. That possibly contributed to the decision for another late pathing switch from the S&C to the WCML.

With the sun popping out in the nick of time and the London - Glasgow Pendo' coming into the platform immediately behind me, I consider myself lucky to have got this.

The water level is pretty low in the Wisconsin River, which is normal. It's quite fun walking through the spongy mud hunting marooned tree logs.

Athabasca Northern SD40 #5232 idles among cuts of log flats in the yard at Lac La Biche Alberta. After the ANY was purchased by CN, the big SD migrated to the Prairie Dog Central in Winnipeg, where it operates moving storage cars to this day.

I love doing monos occasionally ... from a past storm, the logs have found a resting place.

After 4 days of continuous rain and cloud and fog it's time for a break... someone, please bring me sunshine... I'll be in the north of Scotland so if you could send it up there it would be great, thank you....
