"Tugs have been towing aggregate-laden barges out of British Columbia’s Pitt River and on down the Fraser River since the days of wooden scows and steam-powered tugs. Since the earliest days the boats have had to contend with the railway bridge about three miles upstream from the Pitt’s confluence with the Fraser River. Over the generations, skippers have learned a lot about the tides and river currents that challenged the old steam power and continue to challenge the modern diesel-powered tugs. This is not stuff that is taught in maritime training schools. It is knowledge that is learned by making the run with an experienced captain and finally by new captains feeling their way into the job."

I love the moodiness and power of a cloudy day.

I drove down to the Willow's beach the other day and sat on this log for awhile. It was most relaxing and enjoyable. I don't go to the beach anywhere near enough. I'll have to do this more often. I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow. 😃

Lake Eppalock, Victoria, Australia; a man-made lake to provide water for Melbourne.

A river otter takes a break from swimming and rests in a hollow log. Seen in Brookgreen Gardens, Murrels Inlet, South Carolina

As seen in Hawk Wood, Epping Forest. I suspect the log has been put there by mountain bikers as a hazard to jump.

Back to this place i visited last year; this time i found somebody reading a book in front of the cabin and it really seemed the appropriate thing to do in such a peaceful setting...along with taking pictures! :-))

Thanks for spending some time here.

Cracks, growth rings and chainsaw cut marks on a wet log.

Happy Sliders Sunday

A beautiful sunrise I took at our County Fairgrounds in Northern Missouri USA

In the Forest at the LEwis and Clark National Historic park there were many trees that had fallen and were in various stages of decay.

This is another one that I check periodically when in the area for other reasons. The right side has collapsed considerably since the last visit and the top of the chimney has fallen off.

Rossie Estate, Perthshire, Scotland

came across this beautiful log cabin on one of our last trips out and about.

A shot from my car from summer time of this lovely log cabin in Annville, PA

Thanks for your visit and taking the time to comment so I can visit your photos, too... very much appreciated! Have a great day!🙋‍♀️

Not the easiest of compositions as the mist kept building up on the lens, but I managed to get one shot I liked of Magnesia Falls. I found out it was a massive slide that caused them to build the containment area around the falls. VLOG below

A Portland and Western train sits crewless on the siding at Linton, just a few miles west of Portland along the Columbia River. Behind the lead GP39-2 is a long cut of log flatcars.

Logs of the silver birch tree that have been felled. I love the patterns and textures.
