Actually, while I agree with the latter part of this statement, the first part isn't the greatest advice ever. It's inevitable that you'll get hurt if you open yourself up. Humans are most inventive of ways to fall short and fail others. But while it may never break, it will also never beat. Find a safe place to entrust your love: it will give you the strength to go forth and love, and a safe haven to return whenever you're smote.

We all love imperfectly, but to be human is to love.

In 1903, a penal colony known as Colônia Correcional was established at the former headquarters of Fazenda de Dois Rios (Ilha Grande, Brazil).

After 1931, when the road that gave access to Vila do Abraão was built, and having undergone many refurbishment its name was changed to Cândido Mendes Penal Institute.

Dangerous criminals were housed there until 1994, when the State Government had it imploded.

When you're locked for life, you start to appreciate the small freedoms. The colors...

As these two ladies were wearing horns, I suggested that they butt each others' heads like rams or stags do to establish dominance. This is also known as "locking horns" which I thought would be funny if they could lock their horns without breaking anything. Which they did. Why anyone listens to my hare-brained ideas is beyond me. ;->

Tech stuff: B&W layer which I partially masked out the golds, greens, and flesh-tones; darkened and blurred out the background; and used Topaz Adjust's "Portrait Drama" to bring out the details in their armor and horns. I think it looks pretty spiffy!

The friendly conductor on Berkshire and Eastern Railroad train ED9 has lined the electrically locked switch off the industrial siding back for the main here just south of Elm St. at about MP S28.4. Having just finished spotting up two loaded hoppers at Nutrien Ag Solutions, as soon as the switch is locked back up they will head back light engine to gather the balance of their train left on the main to continue south to Hokyoke on the old Boston and Maine Conn River Main.

Note the hand painted station sign and the red house dating from 1870 which has been a backdrop to many glorious images of B&M blue GP9s on heavy through drags back when this route was a major freight corridor. While those glory days are gone, at least images like this are still possible which is better than so many other former B&M routes which are now just bike paths or dirt tracks in the woods...

Since Berkshire and Eastern Railroad has taken over operation of the Pan Am Southern property operations seem to have gotten much more predictable and consistent. At least outwardly their appears to be a bit more hustle and business seems to be on the uptick so hears hoping this this is a harbinger of even bigger and better things to come for the west end of the old Boston and Maine!

Bingley Five Rise Lock staircase, the steepest lock staircase in Britain, is the most spectacular feature of the Leeds and Liverpool canal. It is situated about half a mile north of Bingley Railway station.

The locks open directly from one to another, with the top gate of one forming the bottom gate for the next.

The Bingley Five Rise Lock was opened in 1774 and has a total fall of 60 feet. The locks are a Grade 1 listed structure and have been awarded a Red Wheel plaque by the Transport Trust.
