No reconnaissance aircraft in history has operated globally in more hostile airspace or with such complete impunity than the SR-71, the world's fastest jet-propelled aircraft. The Blackbird's performance and operational achievements placed it at the pinnacle of aviation technology developments during the Cold War.
This Blackbird accrued about 2,800 hours of flight time during 24 years of active service with the U.S. Air Force. On its last flight, March 6, 1990, Lt. Col. Ed Yielding and Lt. Col. Joseph Vida set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 20 seconds, averaging 3,418 kilometers (2,124 miles) per hour. At the flight's conclusion, they landed at Washington-Dulles International Airport and turned the airplane over to the Smithsonian. Designed for military and civilian use, this 4 engine jet formerly of DP Corporation was found in the parking lot of the Artegon Shopping Center in Orlando. The four jet engines have been removed but everything else externally appears present.

The above image is a scan from an original Kodachrome™ slide. The default size is 2000 x 1250 pixels, so clicking on the photo will enlarge it for better viewing.
The original image comes from my slide collection, amassed over the past 40+ years. They are a combination of my own photographs and ones acquired through trades or purchases.
I created this Photostream in 2017 for the purpose of holding my slide collection as an archive, as otherwise they would just remain in binders and boxes, not being enjoyed by anyone, myself included.
Comments are welcome.

As the first of eight Model 1049G Super Constellations for Lufthansa was rolled out of the Lockheed facility in Burbank, California, on 28 February 1955, company photographer Erik Miller captured the image of his shadow as well as the aircraft. The Model 1049G was the most successful version of the Super Constellation, with a total of 102 aircraft built. Often called the Super G, the Model 1049G was flown by TWA, Eastern, and Northwest domestically, and Air France, KLM, Varig, Air India, TCA, Cubana, TAP, Thai Airways, Iberia, Qantas, Avianca, and Lufthansa internationally. One Model 1049G was flown by the Hughes Tool Company as its corporate aircraft. The first Model 1049G—one of the four aircraft for Northwest—was first flown on 7 December 1954.
