Unbelievably, my Lithops survived the winter and seems to be preparing to bloom. Hopefully before the hot humid weather arrives. I have been using a sprayer to water my succulents - the soil, not the plant trying to duplicate the natural living conditions. Mar. 2019.

A nice little pot of lithops I got at the biannual show and sale put on by the Austin Cactus & Succulent Society. I liked the variety of colors and sizes. Check out the tiny ones near the bottom center of the pot!

Lithops are extremely succulent plants originating from the semi-deserts of southern Africa. Their plant body rests under ground, while on top they have transparent windows to let sunlight in for photosynthesis. A camouflage pattern on the windows lets them appear more or less like a pair of pebblestones, so hungry animals may hardly find them.

The Lithops that were sown as seed in April 2013 are now making fine plants. Another re-potting and they are looking well.

Lithops olivacea 'Red Olive'

Detail of a building's façade, reminiscent of living stones or living pebbles (lithops)

The Lithops that I grew from seeds are getting bigger and I potted them up into a larger pot with some stones mulch. I'm not sure if I like the stones or should change it to white.
