Especially in autumn, when hardly any flowers are to be expected on our cacti, the Lithops come into their own, for then most species of this genus flower.
But one plant from this family shows its flower, predominantly already at the end of May to the beginning of June, the species pseudotruncatella. That is why I would like to introduce it today.
Lithops comes from Latin and means "stone", which gave it the colloquial name "living stone".
In nature, they have good chances of survival due to their camouflaged appearance.
The shape and grain came about through natural selection (convergence), an adaptation to the environment in stony terrain. This change is due to animals searching for something moist and nutritious in the dry areas. The solution, only those who are poorly seen survive. And besides, due to its shallow entry into the ground, this plant has hardly any evaporation surface, which protects it from the scorching sun.

ESTE EJEMPLAR EN ALGÚN MOMENTO HA TENIDO EXCESO DE AGUA Y POCO SOL.

UN POCO DE INFORMACIÓN:

My Lithops cactus produces these lovely bright yellow flowers just once a year. The plant lives happily in my window sill.

From my collection
They spend most of the year cunningly disguised as small green pebbles and then for just a week or so, they flower.
They have the alarming tendency for the two pebble like leaves to shrivel and go all mushy and soggy just before producing two new leaves to replace the old ones. In my early days of keeping them I have been known to throw healthy plants away thinking they were dead.
This one must be twenty years old by now and has faked its own death many times, but I'm wise to it now!
The sun was catching it just perfectly so it was a run and grab the camera, macro moment!
Lithops is a genus of succulent plants in the ice plant family, Aizoaceae. Members of the genus are native to southern Africa. The name is derived from the Ancient Greek words λίθος, meaning "stone," and ὄψ, meaning "face," referring to the stone-like appearance of the plants.
It`s nice to break away from landscapes once in a while to try something different, and this is really different........
Lithops is a succulent, just one of several which Jane grows, I have had my eye on this for a long time thinking it might make for an interesting image.
I placed it on my desk in front of my monitor for a black background and did a fourteen shot focus stack, I did think about a mono conversion but went in favor of colour as Like the different colours.
I`m now thinking about the film Alien.
