When one thinks of legendary racing cars of the late 1950s, words like sleek, sexy, and dramatic come to mind. Cambridge manufacturer Brian Lister’s offering was all of the above, but it found its groove in rather unique contours that nonetheless gave it the popular nickname “Knobbly”.
Designed by Brian Lister to meet windshield height regulations set by the FIA, while also minimizing the frontal area of a car powered by a rather large three-liter Jaguar engine, its aluminum body featured a large central bump covering the engine, which fell off in wide grooves on either side and aft, and incredibly curvaceous streamlined fenders and headrest. The result was an athletic-appearing, distinctive racing car that took the sporting world by storm when it made its debut in February 1958.

One can make the analogy that old engines like this are like the old men who maintain them... they're no longer at the forefront of technology; they're somewhat finicky, weigh too much, leak unexpectedly, and create noxious fumes. Still, they refuse to quit running if given a bit of attention and/or a swift kick. Replacement parts are hard to come by at best, and thoughts of a catastrophic failure loom every time one pushes the machine too hard. Still, it's best to be of some use, rather than rusting away and collecting dust...
Yangon (formerly Rangoon) is the capital of the Yangon Region of Myanmar. Founded in the early 11th century by the Mon people, the city became the capital of the country under British rule following three Anglo-Burmese wars (1824-1826, 1852-1853, and 1885). It remained the capital after independence from the British was acheived in 1948. The capital was moved to Naypyidaw some 330 km (205 mi.) to the north in 2006.
The Shwedagon Pagoda is 112 m (367.5 ft.) tall and lies atop Singuttara Hill in Yangon. It is the most sacred Pagoda in Myanmar. In 2018, the pagoda was added to the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites. The submission states: "According to legend, the Shwedagon Pagoda was constructed more than 2,600 years ago, which would make it the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world. Currently scholarly research by historians and archaeologists indicate that the pagoda was first built between the 6th and 10th centuries AD." and "According to local chronologies dating from the 14th century CE, the Shwedagon is believed to enshrine the bodily relics of the historical Buddha, Gautama, as well as artifactual relics purported by long tradition to be associated with the three other most recent previous Buddhas of our present era (kalpa). The enshrined relics include: eight strands of hair from the head of Gautama Buddha, as well as a piece of the robe believed to have belonged to Kassapa Buddha, a water filter attributed to Konagamana Buddha, and the staff of Kakusandha Buddha." The crown at the top of the stupa is decorated with 5,448 diamonds and 2,317 rubies. A 76-carat diamond is set at the highest point of the stupa.

The Detroit Public Library is the second largest library system in the U.S. state of Michigan by volumes held (after the University of Michigan Library) and is the 21st largest library system (and the fourth-largest public library system) in the United States.[2] It is composed of the Main Library on Woodward Avenue, which houses the library's administration offices, and 23 branch locations across the city. Designed by Cass Gilbert, the Detroit Public Library was constructed with Vermont marble and serpentine Italian marble trim in an Italian Renaissance style. The Blanding's Turtle is listed as threatened species in Ontario. The most significant threats to the Blanding's Turtle are loss or fragmenting of habitat, motor vehicles, and raccoons and foxes that prey on eggs. Illegal collection for the pet trade is also a serious threat.
Blanding's Turtles are slow breeders - they don't start to lay eggs until they are in their teens or twenties - so adult deaths of breeding age adults can have major impacts on the species.
