Another upload of one of the Kalahari lions we saw during out recent trip! Walking over the dunes! Early morning encounter! Different light!
This lion woke us up early in the morning, leaving our tent in a rush and without taking a proper breakfast! But what reward he gave us by walking over that dune back to the road leading to the tented camp, allowing us to make some nice shots!
They are so special with their black manes!

Young Lion (Panthera leo) sitting atop a rock in Ruaha National Park of Tanzania. Either the mother was out hunting or the other members of this little guys pride were hidden quite well as we never found any more Lions this day. Image taken in Tanzania.
The ranger found this lion track down by the river in the Marataba Game Reserve, and where he had come up onto soft ground on the other side, but after a period of determined searching the trail was lost.
However, whilst it would have been great to find him, the search was exciting in itself, and I felt good in a way that the lion had eluded us. After all, part of the ‘fun’ on a safari is not knowing what might come about, every day is different, and sometimes just the chase is sufficient.

A captive Lion portrait.
This is nearly full frame (slight crop from top and bottom) and is a two shot manual focus stack, one shot is focused on the eyes, the other the tip of the nose (as one shot with a telephoto lens just won't get it all in focus), then I manually blended the two shots together in PS.
Thanks for looking, cheers! :-)
