A lion on morning patrol, bringing together his pride. Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, September 2022. c.2022 John M. Hudson jmhudson1.com
Part of a large Pride waiting for a crocodile to clear the water-hole before going down to drink. Serengeti, Tanzania.
They had a show on by the time we got to the Sea Lion pool and it was very crowded. Luckily I had my telephoto lens, so I did manage to get this shot.
Lions are the only cats that live in groups. Lions are the second largest cat on Earth (after Siberian Tiger).
It was a pleasant 4-eye meeting (early morning, Engelhard Dam Road). He gave me few seconds to take some photos and then suddenly started roaring. At first I was a little bit in panic, but after few seconds I unerstood that this was not for me, he was calling his friends.

This is the last snap I took before shutting the window. The Lion was just plodding along past us, showing no interest in our presence.
This highly social and intelligent species is well adapted to a semi-aquatic life-style. Male and female California sea lions differ significantly in appearance. Males are substantially bigger than females and have an enlarged sagittal crest, which is usually topped with white fur.

The Lion Gate was the main entrance of the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae, southern Greece. It was erected during the 13th century BC, around 1250 BC in the northwest side of the acropolis and is named after the relief sculpture of two lionesses or lions in a heraldic pose that stands above the entrance.
The Lion Gate is the sole surviving monumental piece of Mycenaean sculpture, as well as the largest sculpture in the prehistoric Aegean. It is the only monument of Bronze Age Greece to bear an iconographic motif that survived without being buried underground, and the only relief image which was described in the literature of classical antiquity, such that it was well known prior to modern archaeology. World Lion Day - 10/08/19. This photo was taken during our visit to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park in 2016. I dream of visiting again one day. We had the privilege of watching this male black maned lion and a female lion on several occasions on the same day.
Lions are my favorites of the big cats. They like to hunt, fight, play, love, bond and, unfortunately, sleep. Males are protective of their territory and leave a message at the proverbial post office, whenever they pass by. It was fun watching even young males stop by the post office and check the mail, even if they didn’t leave their own personal scent message. This big guy checked the post office for messages and left one of his own. (Panther leo) (Sony a1, 70-200mm lens @ 121mm, f/5, 1/500 second, ISO 640)
The Lions are iconic twin peaks on Vancouver's North Shore Mountains, visible across Metro Vancouver, resembling seated lions and named by settlers after London's Trafalgar Square statues. They include the higher West Lion (around 1646m) and East Lion (around 1606m), offering challenging hikes, particularly the West Lion via the popular Binkert Trail from Lions Bay, with the East Lion requiring advanced mountaineering skills. The peaks are a significant local landmark, inspiring the Lions Gate Bridge and the BC Lions CFL team.

One of the most entertaining things about self-driving safaris is that once you're parked and quiet, the animals ignore you and just go about their business. This lion (and the others) walked so close to our vehicle a couple times that we rolled up the windows (just in case).
