This famous penguin Tux symbolizes the Linux Project.
Linux an operating system developped by a worldwide community: not a company,
This is a famous project in computer science because it's free. Understand free as "open source". No need to pay exorbital prices to any damn big company. You can use it as it is and freely modify it to fit your needs. You can even share your upgrades with the community, let Linux evolving along.
The name of this program is based on his inventor's name Linus Torvalds. With a X like in UNIX (another famous Operating system in industry). It was conceved in Finland university. I defacto assumed that Tux is finnish too! :)
Today Linux is celebrating 20 years old.
In order to commemorate this project that has changed our lifes (yes, you even have Linux in your phones, most probably in your TV as well, everywhere...) by sharing a serie of funny pictures taken with Tux in Helsinki summer 2011.
Happy birthday Linux!
This is not an iPad or a smartphone. No phone, no camera. It is an Open Pandora minicomputer. Operating system is 100% Linux and open surce.
Although I had to get on a waiting list and prepay for being the owner, and has had a big thing to do in to getting programs set up, and mice and USB-modem to work - I am now so proud that I want to show pandora on flickr.
I have been forced to install linux (ubuntu) as my M$ windows got corrupted. Shit!! I have lost almost 90GB of data :). HP PC Recovery DVD is also not working properly. I am not in a position to re-install windows by any means. I would say, "we can;t expect everything working in a FREE OS".... sound, usb, DVD, music/movie player, chat messagers... This NOV has started with a freaking sad news..... Let me see how this year ends....

Made backups. Ran defrag. All set.
Now will someone please remind me exactly why I thought this was a good idea?
This is a first to me. When I see Linux magazines in stores here in Portugal, they're usally Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese ones, and way outdated (like somewhere between 3 months to over a year).
Well my jaw fell to the floor when I saw this at college: this is a June 2006 magazine!
As you can see, it bundles a double-sided DVD. On side 1, there's Fedora Core 5, an on side 2 there are 6 Live CDs (Ubuntu is one of them).
I just hope (so to speak, since I don't intend to buy this particular issue, nothing drew my attenion) that the price isn't just the exchange of what is in the cover: £6. That hurts.
