May 23rd 2009 | The Cinéma Maison. 387th day of occupation.

Tonight, two Guinean movies (french version)...

Au programme, deux films guinéens (VF)...

From 2 May 2008 to 7 August 2010, during 828 days, claiming residence permits, the “Sans Papiers” isolated workers of the group CSP75 occupied successively two buildings in Paris: first a Trades Hall at rue Charlot, then a disused public building, at rue Baudelique.

After fourteen months spent at the Trade Hall, on 24 June 2009 they got violently evicted by the Trade Union CGT's internal police. They stayed during three weeks sleeping outside, along the Trades Hall before they led the new occupation at rue Baudelique, on 17 July 2009.

One year later, under pressure of authorities, the CSP75 accepted to voluntary put an end to this more than two years long occupation, after being promised each occupier's case be examined and every one get a chance to receive a residence permit. This is how the CSP75 got out of Baudelique on 7 August 2010, 828th and last day of the occupation.

Struggle goes on...

Summer Sketchbook '09.

A while ago we offered our nephews a commission from us to make up for the presents they’ve missed due to the whole pandemic shenanigans. Not one to disappoint the youngest sent us this by way of a brief:

“Ok so basically I would like me on a skateboard in HELL punching the devil and with the other hand a katana going into hitlers head while me riding an ice dragon dressed as Rambo with like a vest with grenades and guns on my back and a knife on my holster and like ripped pants covered with blood and with flip flops on x”

Now it’s difficult to know if he’s slightly deranged or just being troublesome but a promise is a promise and we’re never ones to let a vexatious nephew get the upper hand so we swung (slowly) into action. His request is not exactly our style (we tried!) so we eventually went the time honoured route and did what any other self respecting artist would do and commissioned someone else to do it for us.

We came across the fabulously named @chaospeeniss who had a suitably graphic lowbrow style and wasn’t scared of a weird commission. He did a great job of providing the black and white linework; it was then time to resize and colour it so it could be printed at A2. I guess the moral is ‘be careful of what you ask for’. Now it’s time for the other nephew’s equally unhinged commission…

Cheers

This is how it looks now that it's finished.

I'm off to see my tattooist Inma this afternoon to for the first session of getting my leg sleeve finished. Will be getting the line work done on the top half of my leg. check my tumblr for more details.

An older pole is being replaced here. It looks like the new one will be quite busy, featuring a transformer and three-phase tap.

Background colored with Tombow & Pitt brush pens. Linework done with micron and Sharpie fine pen. Then I added metallic pen.

He obviously needs more air in his tires!

1. Exported linework from Freehand to Illustrator. Changed color to from black to #720000.

2. Did base colors as follows:

Skin: #FFF1E6

Lips: #E338OC

Tongue: #F7775E

Eye (Iris): #909058 and #CBC851

The white of the eye and teeth are plain white (#FFFFFF).

3. Did skin shading with semi-transparent (5-30%) shapes (color #720000) set to multiply. When the shading would start getting too dark, I'd group everthing and lower the transparency to 70-80%.

4. Skin shading was too dull so I created a new layer above it and drew a shape filled with #E33BOC and set to Color Dodge and 40% transparency. I also created some highlights by drawing shapes of the skin base color () and white (#FFF) set to lighten and blurred.

5. Shaded the lips and mouth the same way as the skin. Color #720000, 15-30% transparency. Highlights are #FFF1E56 set to lighten/30% transparency.

6. Eyes shaded the same way as everything else. Color #720000, 5-20% transparency.

To finish I added a new exclusion layer (color #021028) set to 80% transparency.

Peace to the world I say!

Please help me scoring it at threadless!

Recently, I've been noticing a lot of construction equipment & Xcel trucks going through our neighborhood so I decided to check out the nearby 115kV transmission line that runs through the area. Turns out they're replacing a couple H-frame towers on this section of line.
