I've set up a studio space in the Excelsior Lofts thanks to Mike Elsass. I can do the molding and casting for the Oakwood Education Foundation sculpture commission here and I can start the line patterns painting series. What a great place for artists! The light is great, and the space is cool.

Getting close to the right impression. I see the two sides colliding well. Just a few more layers to balance the dominant lines.

I've got years of line painting sketches to choose from. For this painting I want to choose something that will work well in black and white so I have something to enter in the Visceral Gallery competition.

Still building up layers. Too much grey happening so I'll slow down to let the paint dry a little to reduce the blending.

The view from my studio space. Having grown up near a train track I think it is very cool that several times a day a train comes by this view.

Two-color sketch. Not enough conflict between the two sides.

I worked from and old sketch and did these two-colored sketches. I want to create the image of two dominant color areas starting to collide. Works in greys and works in colors.

Sketch in paint for the black and white piece. Turned upside down to see if the perspective alters how it looks. Not enough interaction between the two sides.

Sketch in paint for the black and white painting. Came out too gray. Too much mixing.

I created a 2 x 4 foot box frame that I can stretch canvas on, paint and then remove the painting from the frame. Helps me with storage of paintings when they are done.

Done. Now I've got to pull it and stretch it before Sept 11th and submit it to the Visceral Gallery "Color restrained" competition.

There is an art walk here every First Friday of the month and the Excelsior Lofts are part of the art walk. So I cleaned up the studio and hung pieces up for anyone who may come through.
