Barranco is one of 43 districts in Lima, Peru. Its current mayor is Jessica Vargas and its postal code is 04.
The district is considered to be the city's most romantic and bohemian, being the home and working place of many of Peru's leading artists, musicians, designers and photographers. In the 19th-century, it was a very fashionable beach resort for the Limeño aristocracy, and many people used to spend the summer here and in neighboring Chorrillos.
Today, Barranco's beaches are among the most popular within the worldwide surfing community, and a marina completed in 2008 provides state-of-the-art services for its yacht club.
The name Barranco (Spanish for ravine) is descriptive of its topography, featuring homes and restaurants in and around a ravine near a cliff overlooking a sand strip which runs from the Miraflores District to Chorrillos (now flanked by a highway, Costa Verde Ave.).

Lima

In the footsteps of the Inca's, Peru - Grand tour 2010.
A holiday that stood for while in the balance as heavy rainfall washed away the access railway to Machu Picchu.
Twoo before the holiday the volcano on Iceland erupted and airtravel was suspended.
We were on the second flight out to Lima after the airspace was cleared.
Day 1 in Lima started off with Citytour including Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and Miraflores beach.
For the evening we made an additional visit to The Magic Water tour at Parque de Reserva. The Park is currently the world record holder for the largest fountain complex in the world, consisting of 13 distinct fountains, many of which are interactive.
Day 2 Leaving Lima for a Ballestas Islands with its birds, Penguin and seal Colonies.
Total contrast was our next visit to Ica . stopover at the Oasis of Huacachina. A Blue lagoon surrounded by huge desert sand dunes.
The days ends near Nazca, were we could some of the famous Nazca Lines from a watch tower.
Day 3 Started with a flight over the difficult to spot Nazca Lines . The afternoon was spent at the Chauchilla ancient Inca Cemetry.
Day 4 . Long scenic drive from Nazca to Arequipa
First time I'd ever seen it. I don't understand why they all have to do it at the same time. Seems dangerous.
