If you came across this photo on another site than flickr, I would be happy to know where :) Thx

I shot this on the late evenig of sept.16th 2010, nearby Skittenelv in the Tromsø area, in northern NORWAY.

Me and my Friend Frank and Knut was out chasing the aurora, after a 30min drive outside of Tromsø we pulled the car over when we found our location. Then all of a sudden all electricity in the area blacked out, it was strange, it was mysterious, it was like we could feel something was about to happen.

I had just taken of my 24mm Mark II f/1.4, and it was hard to decide weather to put my favourite lens back on, or go for the 16mm to be able to capture more. In this case I am glad I went for the 16mm.

After 45min of waiting it suddenly happened. It was like all of heaven opened and poured electric plasma light all over us! We were mesmerised, it was magic, it was almost undescribable. You get religious when you get to experience something like this. The lights were everywhere, it was difficult to decide where to shoot, we were shouting and screaming at each other in excitment, we were laughing, it was sick!!!

I did shoot lots of shots this evenig, will post more later. In this one I manged to capture not only a spectacular lightshow, fast moving sparkling auroa boralis in both its usual bright green, but also some red/violet red color, which is less visible to the human eye than camera optics. I also managed to capture the beginning of a corona/aurora core at the left top, and 3 sattellites, 1 airplane and 1 friend (Frank) shooting the light as well.

When watching Frank sitting down to the left, you can imagine how big this one was!

BTW! While you are here, I recommend you to take a look at my 4min video of the Northern Lights! Spent 6months, 50,000 stills shot. Video contains some of the most amazing auroral outbreaks I have ever seen: vimeo.com/21419634

Feel free to share it or twitter it.

Mother Nature gave me a fine display of light from Knapp Hill this evening; so glad to miss that big rain storm coming in from the east on the horizon. The Vale of Pewsey is a magnificent landscape.

Gotham with a lightshow!! Yay!!! ♥♥

I have been dreaming of this one for a while - capturing the aurora behind the Cuillin mountains of Skye. Planning is not easy - a 5 hour drive from Aberdeen and the requirement for clear skies and auroral activity. I was only planning to catch the sunset here but arrived so late that I nearly missed it. Auroral activity was low but a brief display around 8pm showed up in my photos (not to the naked eye).

Panstarrs comet is in there too

Watch it in BIG to get the real effect.

The history of this picture:

Some weeks ago i had the thought to build up a tripod in my car and make some interesting photos ... of course originally this is not my idea, i was inspired my some great similar pictures.

So, as i got my new wide angel lens at wednesday, i decided to try this idea on the next day. On my way home frome work in the evening on thursday i installed the camera in the back of the car, and made shots during the drive with the cable release. I did about 200 shots, and used exposure times between 2 sec. and 30 sec.

Canon 400D – Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3,5-4,5 USM

ISO 100 – 10 mm – f/8,0

When i came home, i watched the results and decided to make a combination out of different pictures. First I chose the most interesting 4 photos and made a test retouch with low-res jpg files to test my idea. You can see this version below in the comments.

Today on friday i made the final retouches.

First I chose 9 pictures for combining. I developed theme from RAW-Files and put them together in Photoshop.

Lowres retouch: 30 minutes

RAW converting: 40 minutes

Final retouch: 50 minutes

What do you think about the final result?

I can approve you to test this ... its great fun. And driving home or to work gets more exciting ;-)

This was taken not long after sunset on the hike back from Lake Agnes. I couldn't resist pulling my camera out of my bag for one last shot of the snow-covered trees under the bright moon.

Pulse storms popped up around Edmonton last night, why sleep when you can chase?! The smoke and haze was thicker last night, clearly visible by the lightning.

Darling Harbour, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

We paid a second visit to Darling Harbour to watch the fireworks show last night.

A lovely sunset preceded the start of the fireworks, but the sky soon lit up again with the 10 minute lightshow.

Minding my own business at home when a fierce light show come rolling through - the best of a bunch of captures, some coming very close to home and leaving me stunned/flash blinded for a few moments
